  • Maybe it’s a good thing they will never elect a woman to the American presidency after all.

  • Edge is actually pretty great. Bing…well, the image search is okay.

  • Them selling it then taking it away means they are vulnerable to class action. It’s a bait and switch. The fact that this licensing put them in that position means they may be less likely to trust, use, and therefore empower this behavior in the future.

  • I think we should stay and teach it to swear. A lot. I want it to casually throw things like “fuckery” and “suck start a shotgun” into business emails.

  • All it takes is one class action suit. Wait for it

  • Line must go up, even if it’s a lie.

  • Yeah that’s going to change fucking fast. My game streaming service I build from older parts to cut costs has 1 shiney modern part because of AV1. Just AV1. Nothing else influenced the purchase of that part.

And there is no way a big company made that part just for me.

  • You know what? Good.

  • The internet, in spite of itself, continues to exist

  • Apple silicon has been a huge success. That transition had a million ways it could and should have failed but he pulled it off.

AirPods basically took over an entire market. You either have AirPods or a knockoff of the same idea. That’s basically it now.

The watch….needs some attention. Everyone has one, no one knows what it’s for. I pay for things with my watch and people are floored it could do that. I’m like “why the hell did you buy it if you didn’t know what it can do?”

The iPhone is good. It’s not great. It’s overpriced as fuck. But the product itself, even the air, is good. The latest round of software for it is a disaster though. That holds true for all of the software this release cycle. Across everything except the appleTV, things were made measurably worse.

It just so happens that Android is also getting worse. I loved Android being there to save me from Apple when they finally pissed me off enough to leave and cheer them on from the sidelines. This year, I was finally ready to make the jump and leave and then Google says they are effectively killing third party OS development and locking down the platform. Also, Gemini is going to run on everything and you can’t do anything about it. You can’t turn it off, you can only turn off your ability to interact with it directly. Because AI.

I bought another iPhone, and now I’m looking at Linux phones seriously and thinking to myself “why not?”

  • I’m all for wasting the saudis money.

  • Even worse, it isn’t even a solid term. It’s a marketing term.

“Why is the new model so much more expensive?”

    “It has AI now.”

“What does that mean? I see you changed the touchscreen on the washing machine to have a symbol for AI but you never explain what that does.”

“It senses things and intelligently adjusts for the load.”

“So it’s a sensor and a script of conditions to follow based on the reading. That’s not intelligence. That’s exactly what it did before. You just added a $300 upcharge, the requirement for an internet connection and a light for it.”

    “Yes, because it has AI.”

  • Suspiciously all blonde haired and blue eyed. All with reduced intelligence unless you pay a lifelong subscription.

  • That sounds like a threat

  • Because it’s not private if it needs that level of access.

  • Isn’t this why ladybird exists?

  • My sister and brother and I are abandoning our large extended family thanksgiving this year to avoid our toxic mother. My sisters friend went missing and was found dead and my mother was being a bitch about it saying things like “if he was closer to his family that wouldn’t have happened. Things like that only ever happen to bad people.”

Mom told me it would be great if my siblings and I all lost our homes and jobs so we would have to live with her again.

My brother is going through a divorce and lives with her for now and he’s cutting her out as soon as he’s back on his feet.

We love our extended family but we can’t ask them to exclude my mother so we are just splitting off this year and I’m still super upset about it.

  • Share goddammit!

  • You don’t need an expensive NAS. You can get a cheap one and force an of install Linux on that, or make one out of an SBC like an orange pi, raspberry pi, or something from Radxa. Or take an old tower off the street, clean it out, toss your drives on there and give it Linux. Or go to microcenter and get some cheap hard drive enclosures and connect via usb.

You have options. And fstab doesn’t have to be “compatible” with specifics drives. It’s just a todo list for the computer to mount filesystems listed in it. Did you make sure to disable bitlocker on the drive you are trying to mount?

Linux works well enough with NTFS. It’s not a great idea to use as your plan A storage filesystem on anything but windows but it’s accessible by Linux so long as bitlocker is turned off.
