  • Everquest. Can't believe it was easy to get back into after 20+ years away.

  • Yeesh... Boycott call of duty? That'll be nearly impossible I suppose. Probably go far to say it for Minecraft as well. Even if they knew about the boycott, probably wouldn't make a dent.

Major tornado outbreak in the south. Environmental conditions only this favorable once before. Be safe.

    Ryan Hall's coverage linked.

  • Well, didn't realize you needed me to point out that after some arbitrary math, your main theme was out of 10,000,000 people there were, essentially, 500 cars to choose from... So, here's another example for you, and let me know if you need more explanation (this area is in the Midwest... Around 11,000,000 people of the 200 mile radius):

  • Here's another resource you can use if you're looking for an affordable car under $12,500. I'm sure we could find more 😉

  • Nobody likes hearing the truth. The more defensive the argument, the less you have to stand on.

Generational relative hardship is a thing.

Every generation has had to adapt, period. You can CHOOSE to overcome challenges or let them defeat you. You can CHOOSE to take out a school loan and either have a well thought out plan or fall flat on your face because due diligence wasn't paid to increase your knowledge in how the area of study will translate into the workforce. You can CHOOSE to take on mountains of debt to "survive" and think 40 hours a week is all the time there is to work. You can CHOOSE to have a child, two, three, four. All choices have risks and consequences. You can CHOOSE to "buy" that $1500 phone when you live paycheck to paycheck. You can CHOOSE to pursue a career in gaming, social media, and the so called "influencer." But with those choices, you accept the risk, responsibility, and the ownership of them.

Learn what accountability means in your OWN life. Once the problem is everything else's fault - its time to look at the common denominator.

The only one you have to look at in the mirror is yourself. Do something about it.

  • I'd feel sorry if most understood what sacrifice actually means. If you want to get out of debt, make actual sacrifices instead of blaming it on everything else. Nothing comes easy. Gen Z people have a sense of entitlement and "don't understand how to manage money."

How bout stop being children and educate yourselves on what it means to budget (oh, you weren't taught how to do it in school? Pull up your favorite media consuming app and look it up); what the dollar's actual value is; what it means to not eat fucking fast food every day (know how to make a sandwich and pack some fruits, meal prep?). How about stop relying on credit thinking its your money while paying the banks the interest you accrue by keeping a balance on your cards (look on your latest credit card and see how much money you've given to the banks just to have a "sense of security" through credit, hah) Or buying a vehicle that's 30% or more of your net income. COME ON!

Stop blaming the world and make it yours.

Or join the military, its actually got all of the facets of turning children into adults... You'll earn financial freedom through many sacrifices. It definitely will flush out the wannabes and "cant-get-rights."

Or, you know, just blame everything else and get nowhere. 👍

    Inure 👌

So... Got a rooted P9PXL and accidentally uninstalled a pretty vital app for file management. (For context: DocumentsUI.. Looks like a file management app for google) So, a few days after I uninstalled it, I noticed I couldn't download attachments from emails.

Thought it was a file association issue, but to no avail. Then I remembered uninstalling DocumentsUI... Did some research and seemed pretty grim to getting it back. However, I uninstalled it with Inure.

I recently got the app before using it to uninstall some system stuff, so I wasn't familiar with its capabilities. It can attempt to reinstall the app, which didn't work. But there is an option to Extract the apk... Tried it, and it definitely gave me a file with a random name. Went to install it, and sure enough, it reinstalled DocumentsUI.

Everything back to normal operations afterward. Inure is not just for this purpose, but man, did it save my ass. Definitely recommend.

  • I like to switch RSS apps on the phone a lot because I can't stick with one, and none of them are perfect

  • Love FreshRSS. It really is something that I didn't know I needed. I often switch RSS apps, and it allows for seemless transitions.

  • Yup. Capy is pretty great. There are a few RSS readers I switch between, and capy is definitely one of them.

  • Foxy Notes only one that I've stuck with

  • Yeah, this is a pretty good gauge of what an honest star rating should represent.

  • I know, right? It was very hard for me to grasp the Fediverse when i first heard about it. Now, it seems the protocol is being tapped into from a few different directions, so these new platforms may just be starting to make an appearance.

  • Just trying to play a little devils advocate. Not saying that its ethical to do it, but if morals/ethics don't play a part in the decision, it could prove useful. Besides, I'd imagine that its already being extorted pretty heavily if there's that much competition for sellers, hah.

  • Lemmy - Eternity (Android) Lemmy - Photon [phtn.app] (Windows) Mastodon - Moshidon (Android) Mastodon - mastodon, elk (Windows) Bluesky - Bluesky (Android/Windows)

  • Yeah, I'd argue that the project can be good and not widely used. Do you think that there are projects with real use case and are great open source software and not widely used because its buried under the *s?

It could be a relatively inexpensive way for niche marketing. Especially if the developer has a payment option with the software. Probably a decent way to get the software out in the open for profitability, no?

Over 3.1 million fake "stars" on GitHub projects used to boost rankings

This doesn't surprise me at all... Just like bots in games. Selling a service that benefits another. Its shady, but definitely believable.

Also, what if this is an actual viable way to "market" for an open source project?

  • This will continue because of cowardice, unfortunately. Integrity is one of the only things that separates moral and ethical action. In the moment, groupthink/mob mentality/group mentality led to conformity which is exactly what happened, and is an extreme form of pressure. Regardless of the action/inaction in the moment, integrity was challenged and defeated. One of the only ways this will change is something that will probably not happen due to conformism within the system. You lived how hard it was... your integrity was challenged, and ultimately inaction was the choice that was made resulting in net zero integrity.

As everything in hindsight reveals the truth, the inaction feeds conformity. If it's never challenged, then it evolves into a "norm."

Lemmy more social than Mastodon or Nostr

Having tried all three, its a stark difference in how much more social Lemmy is comparatively. Its not even close. Almost all posts I've encountered on lemmy have interaction; whereas, more often than not, posts on the other two platforms have no interaction. Wonder what the driving factor is behind this difference?

    Wonder who will TIL this

Sometimes people perplex me in that some of the most fundamental things aren't known to the newer generations (albeit, some of the older ones too, but not nearly as many). Nonetheless, I bet there are people that will TIL this! And you know what, have at it, obtain that knowledge 👍
