  • I fondly remember my organic chemistry lab professor giving us all a lecture that was something like this:

"I see that you children have learned how good acetone is at cleaning glassware. And you are correct: it is excellent. However, you cannot pour it down the sink and we have to pay for hazardous waste disposal. So use soap, water, and elbow grease instead."

  • The US made a lot of its own sugar in the past either though sugar beets, or by growing cane in the extreme south, but that era is largely over (ignoring corn syrup): it's cheaper to import it from places where imperialism keeps wages low.

Most US food is not local, unless you go to a farm share or market.

  • DRASTICALLY

  • A common, reasonably evidence based, protein target for bodybuilding is 1-2 g/kg, with the cursed unit of 1g/lb being about the upper limit of what's useful. That's probably what this post is referencing.

  • My experience with it on Android had several weird bugs

    • Consumed a lot of battery
    • Crashed on swapping focus to another app
    • Opening the app would get stuck connecting to the game state server (even though the app works fine offline) so I had to use airplane mode to launch the app

    These seem resolved now

  • A lot of us in the US still pay rent in checks. I get them from my bank in books of a hundred, and there's no upper limit on how big they can be.

Anything that risks bouncing requires getting a fancy check (certified) where they take the money out before issuing the check.
