  • I'm in the same boat. I am really not interested in Windows 11 at all, especially after using it at work. My primary hesitation has been video game playability in the past but the steam deck has really expanded how many games are playable on Linux and I also play a lot more games on consoles than I did a few years ago

  • I don't personally think we're anywhere close to this point but I imagine the objective is to eat the corporate laptop market. Outside of developers I think there's a real appeal to giving business users an AR headset and a phone. You don't have to worry about monitors, keyboards, headsets, etc. It's significantly lighter and more mobile. Most of what business people do doesn't need more processing power than a phone has. You could eliminate cubes and just have banks of seats with small desks. Plus imagine the productivity gains when you can literally watch the user's eyes and prevent them from even looking at non-work items

Wow, I got really distopian with that really fast. Of course Apple and Meta are interested in it

  • You're correct, I was skipping details to make a joke. While ultimately the mother does deside I think most Moms (who are a mess from just giving birth) turn to the nearest penis owner they trust for a decision on the matter and that's usually the dad

  • Carbonating water creates a small amount of carbonic acid in the water and makes the whole thing slightly acidic. Usually it's not enough to instantly curdle milk but it would certainly give off the same smell/taste as almost expired milk. This would almost certainly be very gross, even ignoring the bubbly milk part

  • In America at least most people don't really consider it until the kid is born. Then in the post birth rush of things happening someone asks if you want to circumcise your kid. Most Dads will say "well I'm circumcised, so I guess" and his dad said "well I'm circumcised, so I guess" and his dad said "well I'm circumcised, so I guess" and his dad said "HE IS BORN OF SIN! We must circumcise him to discourage sinful behavior!"

Most people really don't think too deeply about most things, try not to over think it

  • It's kinda the same thing as "selling feet pics" and "stripping to pay for school". There's a common belief that since men are so desperate for sex that any woman willing to do sex work will make a decent amount of money. That's simply not the case if you actually talk to any kind of sex worker. However, America is so puritanical that most people don't even know a sex worker, let alone have the bravery to ask them about their work

  • I agree with it being the weakest. I do think if they hadn't recast Mrs. Brown and had taken the flashback from that last scene where she draws the parallels between her kids leaving and Paddington staying in Peru then they could have a much more emotionally impactful film. Still I'll take the worst Paddington movie over any Disney live action movie

    • Smokey and the Bandit 3.5/5: I expected this to suck but I was really blown away. Burt Reynolds is legitimately funny, Eastbound and Down is an incredible theme song, and the whole ACAB motif of the movie aged very well
    • The Legend of Ochi 3/5: I saw this for mystery movie monday and spent most of the time thinking this was a mostly AI generated film. The creators insist there was no AI used in this but it does lead one to wonder why they chose the (for lack of a better term) AI-aesthetic for the whole thing. Regardless, still a weak movie even by kid standards
    • Final Destination 3 2.5/5: It's fine, there's some nudity and bunch of teens dying violently. Not much to write home about
    • True Lies 4/5: About the level of sexism I expect from a 90s movie, but still pretty entertaining and has great jokes. Arnold and Cameron are just two heavy hitters doing great work
    • Sinners 4/5: I thought this looked dumb as hell in the trailers but word of mouth got to me so I decided to see it. This movie is pretty good, has good music, pacing, and manages to get you more invested in the characters than most horror movies. It's worth seeing and I would put effort into seeing it in a packed screening because it's great with an audience
    • Final Destination 2 3/5: This is also fine. Good kills, a decent plot and I like how it ties it back to the first movie, the bus kill is fucking wild (spoilers)
    • A Minecraft Movie 1.5/5: I would only recommend seeing this in a theater with a bunch of people. There's about 5 good jokes in the movie and it really feels like there were far too many cooks in the kitchen working on this
  • This doesn't say anything. Neither of those statements are true. Nobody "allows" someone to enter the country "illegally" that's what the laws mean. We also didn't magically change the rules when Trump entered the office, he just chose to ignore them and is being reprimanded for it. Also illegal immigrants can't vote so they don't impact policy decisions. This is two vague statements that evoke feeling without actually saying anything associated to an attractive made up woman with no facts attached

A huge amount of incredible seeds on various Roguelikes must be wasted on people who are new or bad at the game

  • Interesting to read that you'll be able to pair Switch 1 joycons with Switch 2. That seems like the type of thing Nintendo would have avoided in the past to prevent product confusion. I wonder if I'll be able to use my old pro controller too?

  • Princess Mononoke (4K IMAX) 4.5/5: This movie is so great and this was a beautiful restoration. What an experience

The Saint 2/5: Watched this in honor of Val Kilmer's passing. In hindsight there may have been better choices, it really gives "Mission Impossible at home"

The Luckiest Man in America 3.5/5: I thought this was alright, I kinda wish it had gone more into how Micheal actually beat the system. It also got a little loose with the facts but whatever

Drop 1/5: This shit sucked. I saw it for Mystery Movie Monday and was initially confused why someone brought a toddler to an R rated screening. Nope, this is PG-13. This woman is the worst fucking date of all time, the waiter is an improv comedian, and the plot is nonsensical. Also the title sucks, the "Drop" basically doesn't matter for the whole movie

Are the explain the joke subreddits just AI training grounds?

For those of us who still use reddit on occasion, I'm sure you've noticed AI is running rampant over there, from the multitude of variations of "Am I the Asshole", "Malicious Compliance", and especially in the comments. A lot of the explain the joke subreddits and in particular "Peter Explain the Joke" seem to ask questions so obvious that I am curious if it's designed to test AI responses and use upvotes to score the results. I know there're a lot of dipshits out there but are there so many that those posts routinely reach the front page multiple times a day? Is it just plain old karma farming?

Clicking a link to a lemmy community on a card doesn't work

When someone links to a community if you open the post and then follow the link it works fine. If you're browsing with cards and try to follow the link from the card without opening the actual post it attempts to open the link in a browser which fails because the link is not the full URL. It would be nice if clicking the link would take me to that community on that instance, which is what it does when you open the post and click the link
