"Linux is highly configurable"

When people say that, they're probably repeating what they heard and miscommunicating it. It means it can be made to run on a toaster or a super computer. -Not something a normie cares about.

If they're running KDE Plasma, ask them how to change the task bar size.

  • I've noticed that a lot of followers on you community on Lemmy are being douches, they simply follow you so they can down vote everything you say.

The vote brigading is all tightly timed and an administrator could (if they wanted to take the time) analyze the voting in the data base and accurately determine what accounts are guilty based on the data. -Yes; I've ran a website before. Natural down-votes from subscribers won't fall into a tightly wadded amount that we're getting like that. (And people with nefarious intentions wouldn't generally contribute to the user count). Lots of subscribers just ignore the voting, and bots may be involved. Users don't need to be subscribed to follow (just go directly to the community, use a feed reader, etc).

If you look back at older posts, we have a great community here. We just have a lot more accounts exploiting the lack of rules, and software maturity.

Maybe I'm missing something, but that's my perspective.

  • Graphs like these have been going on for years.

It is possible that the CEO came in and cleaned out the bloat of workers that just come in and hang out basically (common in the tech field and has been done to Twitter (X)). -That would make the salary increase correlate to savings. Showing a correlation between development and available funds would be pertinent. Just off the top of my head, I remember significant improvements since first seeing graphs like this.

Also take into account the competition was dismal until Chrome came along. Much like the game console market when Sony entered it, the browser market was hurting with a hole to fill for a strong leader.

Mozillas politics don't help. Choosing a side can alienate about half your user base. Flip-flopping sides and you're killing off your whole user base. Declaring dishonestly that 'we can't do this without your donations' while making bank from Google (long time ago) doesn't help either. Politics would need to come into play here and how much those are on the CEO.

They mostly appeal to Linux users (people more likely to switch out things), and almost every Linux YouTuber promotes Brave (which is shady af). Brave also has or had an undeniable corporate presence in the browsers sub on Reddit with weekly Brave vs *** for a particular category Brave would win at by low karma accounts. Firefox lacked that marketing, not for being a bad browser. Prior to, they had the FOSS fanbase influencing for them.

Statistics and graphs are tools of propagandists. There might be something there, but there's often a bigger picture to be seen. Firefox isn't a bad browser, and I'm hoping they can turn it around to gain marketshare again. (and drop all politics).

  • It's really not a matter of 'working hard enough'. Financial discipline, learning trades (skills), not being depdendent on a single source of income, avoiding addictions and expensive habits, etc can play a part in financial security.

edit: I don't know what H-1B is though.

  • Any time I've banned people, it never was reflected in the users stat. -They weren't members. We're more apt to lose people from edgy posts (like King Richard).

We can't control vote brigading and manipulation. -That's a Lemmy issue that even Reddit has. I have noticed though that Reddit has rules about it, and bans for life for it if it's proven (or they catch it).

Nearly everyone if not everyone has cognitive biases and areas where they're not so bright. Conspiracy theorists aren't themselves because they're stupid; they're mostly a product of experiencing distrust in an authority at an impressionable age. (Rob Braxman is text book)

Aside from one user here, I don't get personal. I don't remember names of people I've banned. They're a victim as much as the next person.

  • Silicon Dioxide? -I've only seen that in the knock-offs like at Aldi. Here's why I avoid it (and notice it): https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/8289701/

    Cults hate when members leave

People who leave cults know the below the surface workings of the cult. -They are a threat to the cult and its mission.

Shunning is a technique used by cults. Cults lure people in initially with the love and acceptance they didn't feel from outside the cult. Shunning strikes to the core of these people as they return to their previous state, actually often worse.

Actions can go beyond shunning though.

    • Guilt and Fear: Cults may attempt to instill a sense of guilt and fear in members about leaving suggesting dire consequences.
    • Character Assassination: Spreading false information or rumors to discredit the party leaving.
    • Stalking: Stalking former members to intimidate them into returning or to prevent them from speaking out.
    • Threats: Verbal or written threats are often used to scare former members into silence. (wait til Lemmy admins see this shit! -for example)

The intimidation can go way beyond these, but these are pertinent to our community. A community for people r

    Steam Deck? -Sucks!

Linux users have been over-selling this device because they view it as a gateway for new users to Linux, and because it will change the statistics they can rattle off about Linux users. They don't care if there are better options, this is the product they glorify despite all its faults.

No exclusive games and limits available games by being underpowered and not running Windows well. Games that run may not run good at all. Some games with kernel-level anti-cheat systems (like Vanguard or ESEA) are not supported or lost support. I don't know about you, but it's usually a particular game or games that gets me to buy a console.

2-6 hours of playtime between charges. 2.5-3 hours to charge! -Does not support fast charging! The battery also discharges over time when not being used.

It gets hot! -You can't simply put a pillow under it to support its massive weight without affecting cooling. -And it's freaking heavy!

Why OEMs shouldn't / don't include Linux preinstalled

They tried it, returns and support cost them more. (There's a conspiracy theory about Microsoft bribing that doesn't make economic sense).

Linux users don't stick with things and often distro-hop. Linux is also modular. -They can get a Linux computer free of Windows by using their own principals: Build it from parts.

Linux users are generally anti-capitalists and have no moral compass when it comes to returning things or making prices go up for others. -Why cater to anti-consumers?

Which distro? -They all suck. An endless supply of distros makes it so it's difficult to figure this out (unless you can discern it from reading threads in a toxic Linux sub)

Linux software is volatile. A single programmer getting pissed off can stop development and take out multiple pieces of software depending on it because of its modular nature. (Imagine getting complaints about selling a computer with software that no longer works).

3rd party drivers and software can put excessive wear on components
