  • Yeah, Ma Bell breaking up into the Baby Bells is the only real example I can think of, and even they came back together later (though, by then, there was enough diversity in the market that they couldn't reclaim the level of market dominance they once had)

  • Have you missed the part where fascism has taken over the US, in spite of the millions of us who tried to stop it in the polls, only to have a slightly larger number get duped into believing that the fascists will fix the price of eggs and that would make the horror okay? Or before that even how the rich have managed to convince so many of us of the lie that government run healthcare was not only socialism/communism (dirty words here) would ruin our healthcare system and we'd be forced to sit and wait for months or years for necessary procedures and die on the waiting list, or that the government will just flat out decide it was time for you to die through "death panels"?

There are plenty of us who have been fighting for this our whole lives, maybe hold off on that "bitch ass attitude" bullshit for us just pointing out that we don't actually have power here.

  • You should totally do that, I think she'd appreciate it

Also, I've never sewn but I knit sometimes, and crafting takes a lot of time and energy, especially for pieces of clothing that cover more than a head, hand, or foot... It's a lot to ask a kid to appreciate that, but it still feels like a slap in the face to have something you've poured so much effort and time and love into be treated like that. I'm glad you ultimately realized that.

Your mom sounds awesome; raising kids under any circumstances is hard, and while poor is just...I don't even know how people manage it

  • For me it was AOL chat rooms and Star Trek role play that got my typing speed up, later followed by wow when voice chat was uncommon and communicating during a dungeon or raid required typing fast to not interrupt what you needed to do

  • Yep... Mint is always following the current LTE version of Ubuntu, usually behind them by a couple months, which is going to be a few months to a year behind on most packages at the time of release, and will be another two years before getting a new feature update

Anything not system level (such as the DE), if you want the latest, Flatpak. Anything else, your options are to wait a few years, try to shoehorn it in yourself and deal with the dependency hell, or hop to a distro that uses the version you want.

Even the latest version of Mint that just released about a month ago doesn't have KDE 6 yet, and it'll probably be two years before it's available. Which is why I'm thinking of switching to Fedora for a while.
