There's a lot of unvoiced dialogue, which I could see as being a barrier to enjoyment
No, it's more like the protagonists' personalities being totally interchangeable. That made me stop playing after I realized it doesn't improve.
How is your week going?
A friend stuck between a rock and a hard place managed to find housing, so I'd say pretty good as I'm about to help with the move-in!
I've been calling it the Greater Depression for years. And now here we go...
What's going on with searx.thefloatinglab.world?
It doesn't seem very prudent of Lifehacker to make the scam website's URL clickable lol.
... and the rest, greed.
Maybe they are in bed with ISPs.
omg you'll be among the saviors of the world, given the way bees are going according to the news.
Wow, I had no idea that NPR had a text-only version. Cool! Also, I hope Eli loses.

*Not Bitcoin.
Why not? Otherwise, there are CBDCs purportedly under way, but I haven't read about them in probably half a year or longer, come to think of it...
I have still quite literally found no other tool, even paid products, that can interior-crop the way IrfanView can (select row/column Y in XYZ if the entire image was XYZ, and crop out that inner part and auto-tuck X and Z directly against each other). And it's had this feature for decades, I think.
I did not call people evil but the substance, and my stance has nothing to do with socializing (which is fine) but rather everything to do with the pain of drunk driving, abuse, addiction, permanent bodily harm, psychological scarring, and death that are all results of alcohol intake. Why play with fire? Let's look at other drugs:
"According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, alcohol causes 88,000 (62,000 men and 26,000 women) deaths every year. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism tells us alcohol shortened the lifespan of those 88,000 by 30 years. That makes alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the U.S. All other drugs combined cause approximately 30,000 deaths annually." - https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/all-about-addiction/201601/which-is-more-dangerous-alcohol-or-drugs
I don't even understand why I'm conducting this research right now; why are you disagreeing? Arguing against science is like saying the damage from leaded gasoline was all fine. That article was from 2016, so let's find something more recent for relevance:
"A new study estimates that over their lifetime, more than a third of U.S. adults or 113 million people are harmed from someone else’s drinking while 46 million experience harms from someone else’s drug use. Among study respondents, 34.2% experienced secondhand harms from alcohol, 5.5% from cannabis, 7.6% from opioids, and 8.3% from other drugs." - https://www.phi.org/press/new-study-alcohol-and-drug-use-cause-significant-harms-that-go-beyond-the-individual/
That was just from Nov. 2024. I hope I don't have to go on. There are so many incredible and safer ways to have fun (and even ones that are as wild or wilder, when it comes to certain mind-altering substances). /c/stopdrinking exists for a reason, and I'm not gonna minimize their struggle in light of those ratios above.
Um, is there a Mothers Against Table Salt organization? Or are you saying that Mothers Against Drunk Driving is comprised of judgmental asses? I didn't post that comment just because I'm a teetotaler. Maybe you haven't seen the pain and suffering of those with severe alcoholics in their families like I have, in which case I hope you never do.
That works! And agreed...
Right, but it was also a totally different world back then with cannabis, psilocybin, etc. nowhere near as well-studied nor accessible. Arguably anything before the advent of the Internet, and even anything before COVID and now AI, is outdated if not plain unusable as a reference point...
Anyway, I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek as bans aren't that effective regardless, but imposing a massive, tobacco-like tax would get my support, given its life-ruining ratio to all other stuff (relative to public accessibility, anyway).
Huh? I don't judge drug users; I judge the substance itself, which should be banned.
It's not "drugs and alcohol"; it's "drugs." Anything else only means alarmingly successful marketing.
I'm not against mind-altering substances! If people need relaxation through a mind-altering substance, marijuana has consistently proven to be far healthier overall, since you can't overdose on it and there is no hangover if used correctly. Alcohol, on the other hand...

I keep getting this issue with no option to change
It doesn't even tell me which instance I'm on until an error appears. I wish there was a drop-down option that you could choose to have you show which instance you're currently on at all times. This never happened until I added another account on a different instance, and now it seems to jumble up the 2 continually.
I didn't mean "evil" from a morality perspective, but was describing how damaging it is to people's health: https://www.who.int/europe/news/item/04-01-2023-no-level-of-alcohol-consumption-is-safe-for-our-health
I indeed rarely do, funnily enough, and haven't owned it in my home for years!
That means they'd be even worse off than us in any attempts to go spacefaring, right?

Why can't Signal generate certain link previews?
I was wanting to share a Hoopla Digital link with someone and it immediately declared "link preview unavailable" without even trying as it usually does. This library-backed website is harmless. Signal's preview generation can be a little bothersome at times.
FR: Option to prevent All and All Subscribed from appearing in History
This would be nice since it's effectively useless, at least as far as I can tell.
User-switching bug: instance mismatch popup doesn't appear and there is no way to invoke it/check
Great app other than this issue!
This has happened to me several times now and getting the mismatch popup to appear to switch instances seems to be difficult to trigger. It'd be nice if there was a manual button or constant indicator showing what instance you're on and prompting to switch if there's a mismatch.

What are some ways by which disabled people can discover and volunteer for stem cell treatment?
Edit: Thanks, everyone!
I know an incredibly smart senior here near Milwaukee County, WI who's disabled by MS and has been restricted to using a scooter for years. He'd love to walk again, but I but I don't know how he can get involved in studies like this: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-025-00863-0
All I could find was the ISSCR (Int'l Society for Stem Cell Research), but I don't think reaching them directly would be fruitful, would it?
AdNauseam is a uBlock fork that goes further: it actively attacks marketers by auto-clicking every ad before blocking

It garbles advertisers' data as a result, but you must disable uBlock Origin to run it; they can't work simultaneously. I recently moved to it and, so far, am never looking back!
Can you deduct mileage as an IC for intermittent gigs that happen at your workplace?
At my workplace, I get intermittent IC gigs from other companies. Some of these gigs happen on days when I'm already there, but others on days when I'm not.
Which mileage could I deduct as a sole proprietor, all/some?
Some UI questions
All are welcome to SJV's free, monthly dinner & game night in Brookfield!
Hi everyone, I'm the pianist at St. John Vianney Catholic Parish in Brookfield, where I began a monthly dinner & game night in Fall 2023 and still run it to this day. All are welcome; you do not need to be Catholic nor a member to participate (I'm not Catholic myself, in fact)!
Have dinner, contribute some potato chips or your favorite dish if inclined (but no need), bring your favorite board & card games or learn others' titles, or just socialize and make new friends!
The link points to a webpage which then points to the following RSVP form: https://forms.gle/p6ApeY6AGzu3LUtt9
Hope to see you there! Attendance on average has been within 10-15, but recent events have seen >20 participants, thanks to new promotional efforts done by a volunteer.
All are welcome to free game nights with the group West Allis Board Games!
Locals and non-locals alike are welcome to join our free weekday board game sessions! Gatherings are typically at West Allis's Festival Foods supermarket on 108th & W Greenfield, pictured: https://maps…
Hi everyone, I run near-weekly board game nights at the Festival Foods grocery store in West Allis, WI for the purpose of fostering community, keeping our minds sharp by learning new games, and defeating loneliness in a fun way. I've also recently branched out into organizing dinners for the group (we go Dutch, though, to be clear), which you can still join even if you don't care for board games.
You are all welcome, even if you don't live in West Allis! For those who prefer it, I also duplicate all events on FB for users' convenience: https://www.facebook.com/groups/westallisboardgames
We normally get a minimum of 4-7 attendees every single time. The headcount has never gone higher than 14. The food court can take 24 people if it were to be totally crammed; I counted the seats!
