How grindy is the story mode? Is it like The Forest where you can go through the entire thing in ~10 hours without building a base or more like Subnautica where a base is necessary and it takes like 30 hours to complete?

That's a goal of mine (moving away from Cloudflare) but Cloudflare's free CDN is kind of necessary to keep server costs low at the moment.

It's possible but the longest I waited before trying to log in again was 24 hours. After that, I thought "maybe they're blocking my email". They also replied to my ticket with this just an hour ago:
So it does seem like they think my email was some "potential risk".
On the side note Hoyo all of the sudden started blocking Linux again. After 3 years of working out of the box on Linux.
Ah that sucks. I used to play on Linux. I really hate it when the only games I play break on Linux so I've been using Windows for the past year or so. At least it's not entirely broken and there's a work around.
Hoyo blocked my SimpleLogin email address (Locked out of account for a few days)
Kind of a rant. Hoyo blocked my SimpleLogin email. I couldn't receive verification codes. Clicking the "Send" button just returned a "Too many requests. Try again later" error. Every. Single. Time.
No matter how long I waited between login attempts, it kept giving the same error. I also tried logging in through my phone and with different IP addresses.
So I opened a ticket but they were unresponsive after giving my Genshin Impact UID. I found an "account retrieval form" in the Hoyoverse account management webpage, filled it up and had my email address changed. I was able to log in now so it looks like they're blocking SimpleLogin email addresses which sucks. Now I'm thinking of changing my email addresses on other accounts that use SimpleLogin.
Anyway, if you use a SimpleLogin email address, you should probably change it, or at least be prepared to have it changed in the future. :/
That's odd. I've seen that "[email protected]" thing from Cloudflare but I don't have it enabled nor should it be modifying posts this way.
I actually saw this the other day, then a few hours later I learned that the pope had died. I thought the meme was referencing the pope's death so I thought "Wow, I can't believe I learned about his death because of a meme!" Now, it's kind of awkward.
I watched Kick-Heart the other day. Masaaki Yuasa is incredible (and his work is incredibly horny). It's a lot of fun.

I've been thinking about this too. I might limit it to "East Asian" works because that covers China and Korea. But that still doesn't cover everything. Western media with "anime influence" is also really tricky too. I was watching Genius Party (collection of Japanese animation shorts) and some of the short films there don't look anything like "anime" because they're not very "moe". But a lot of Western works are "moe". There's some disagreement between the two terms.
I could just put "anime" in scare quotes too. That might solve it for now lol

Policy Updates
I made changes to the policies found in https://ani.social/legal in response to users creating communities that might not be fit for ani.social. The new policy is titled "Community Creation Policy" which aims to limit the scope of communities created in ani.social. Below is a breakdown of the entire policy:
- The community should be related to anime, manga, or other related otaku and moe culture.
This should be obvious but "anime" is very broad. Especially the term "otaku culture" which could mean things not completely related to anime and manga (like trains or military) so I would like to limit those. Though in the globalized context, otaku is associated with anime, so I'm thinking of calling it "globalized otaku" or "otaku" (with scare quotes) as suggested by Patrick Galbraith.
- The community should have a clearly defined purpose

Notice on Recent Downtime + Introducing "Gaen"
Hello everyone!
Recently, we had hours of downtime yesterday (March 16) and today (March 17) and some slowdowns last week. Basically, the server was suffering from storage performance issues. I talked to the hosting provider about it and we got it fixed. Hopefully we don't run into issues like that again (or soon at least).
We also had downtime around 1 month ago which was caused by really aggressive web scrapers which should be fixed by now. I blocked their ASN and I started blocking AI bots too. Other Lemmy instances have been affected by the same scrapers too.
There might be a bit more downtime during the next few days as I make a few changes to the way I do backups. It should only be a few minutes though.
