A guy near my home is flying two American flags in front of his house. The thing is, we're in Canada…
I have found Duolingo much, much less useful for language learning than Language Transfer. The latter actually helps you learn to think in another language rather than memorize things (which is still useful, but not nearly as much).
Short if total immersion, I have found nothing better than LT.
Thanks, I fixed it.
And yes, I agree that he is amazing. One guy teaching courses in Spanish, Italian, Greek, Arabic, French, German, Turkish, and Swahili!
I have found that Language Transfer is a far superior way to learn languages (including Spanish), and it's free (although I make a monthly donation)!
It is available as YouTube videos, SoundCloud MP3s, or on a very simple but effective app.
Thanks, I fixed it.
Prime Minister Jean Chretien grabbed a protester and wrestled him to the ground, in Sagar has become known as "The Shawinigan Handshake".
As does peanut butter and bacon.
Coincidentally, I just went on the autobahn yesterday, for the second time in my life. We were driving about 130 but there were plenty people probably going 30 or 40 km faster than us.
Spanish is my sixth language and aside from total immersion, Language Transfer is the best thing I have found.
I read a couple of books to my wife, as well as a limited series of comics period it was wonderfully intimate! Although she tried to read to me, and I just kept falling asleep.
I highly, highly recommend Language Transfer. They have French, Spanish, Italian, Greek, German, Turkish, Arabic, Swahili. Also an introduction to understanding music, which is also excellent, using the same teaching techniques, and an introductory course in English for Spanish speakers.
You can use YouTube videos, SoundCloud MP3s (downloadable), or the excellent app.
Not Canadian, but European: Language Transfer is the best language learning system you can find. Free, too!
I have used their Spanish course, and it is excellent.
I used the homebrew channel to convert my Wii from Japanese to North American (games are region-locked). Never used it for posted games.
Not gamified, but the best language-learning system I've ever used (sorry if total immersion) is the donation-supported Language Transfer.
Intuitive and not just bunch of rote memorization. Made up of roughly 10-minutes audio files, available in YouTube, SoundCloud, or the simple but elegant app.
The languages available are French, German, Italian, Spanish, Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Swahili. All taught by one man, who is Greek-British!
That's exactly right. The proof is quite simple and there's no reason it shouldn't be taught instead of just getting students to accept magic rules.
I went through engineering school, and 20 years of work (not as an engineer), before finding a calculus text that explained why the derivative of x^2 is 2x. Along with many practical applications of calculus.
That book was Calculus Made Simple, published in 1914. Thanks, Project Gutenberg!
Edit: derivative of x^2 is 2x. Got my differentiation and integration confused!
I live in Canada and find that while the water is refreshing and just a little startling, it's only the first fraction of a second and then it's fine.
In theory there is little difference between practice and theory. In practice there is.
I have bad news for him. If he's the right wing RATM fan, he wasn't stupider before.
I know someone who works in a university group related to privacy issues. He refuses to have a smartphone because of the ease which which almost anyone can track you and your activities. I think he has an old flip phone.
Continuation of Christmas giveaway
Life has had its way with me, but I have added a few additional games to the giveaway I started at Christmas. The new games are:
As before, you can request up to 5 games per day. It may take me a few days to process the requests, but please be patient!
Go to https://xmas2024.stillbrook.org/ to check the list of games and submit your requests. Still about 300 games available.--
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 6
All the games are now available on the website I made (see link below), so I have marked the other posts as [CLOSED].
Sorry for the delay everyone. I got involved in Christmas, and needed to figure out a way to post and distribute my extra Steam keys without spending 3 hours every day to do it.
I have created a solution, not a pretty one and probably not robust, but I hope it will survive for a week or so until all the games are taken. It was a chance to step back from CMSs and web frameworks, and program closer to old school days. (I started web programming in 2001, when things were much more primitive than now!)
You still get to submit 5 requests per day, and I will do my best to apportion the keys fairly.
Go to https://xmas2024.stillbrook.org/ to view the games and make your requests. Use your Lemmy username so that I can send you the keys.
Currently games up to "R" are available; the rest will be posted each day.
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 5
As before (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4), please make a list of the 5 games you would like from this list. At the end of the day, I will try to make as many people happy as possible! You are free to go to previous giveaways and requests items from there too.
As always, please be patient if I send you a key that doesn't work; managing 1,500 keys and 50 people's lists without a single mistake is not as easy as it looks!
Games that I have played and like are denoted with 🎅
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 4
As before, please list up to 5 titles that you want, and I will do my best to make sure that everyone gets at least 1.
Check Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 for previous giveaways (I'm going through the alphabet, if you couldn't tell).
Occasionally keys may have already been redeemed, or be for the wrong game. Sorry about that, I've been trying to manage ~1,500 keys in this list!
Games I personally like are marked with 🎅
By the way, several people were interested in the game Control. I only had one extra copy, but it is available for free as long as you don't mind the Epic Game Store.
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 3
Okay, some really good games in this batch! As before, send me a list of up to 5 games, and at the end of the day I will try to fairly distribute the keys. (I marked my own favourites with 🎅, but your tastes may be different.)
Also check out Part 1 and Part 2, which still have many keys left.
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 2
You can send me a list of up to 5 titles, and at the end of the day I will send the keys out (randomly choosing if multiple people want the same game).
Also check out Part 1!
Christmas Steam Key Giveaway -- Part 1
I have amassed lots of extra Steam keys (some games I already have, some I'm just not interested in). I will keep adding to this list over the holidays, trying to get them to people who might use them.
Note: I realize that I have many, many games available, and sometimes multiple keys for a game title, so you can request up to 5 games (in 1 message, please!) and at the end of the day I will allocate keys (randomly selecting if there aren't enough keys)
