There are a lot of good lightweight tents as well. If you want to sleep well and don't like bugs, a tent is a better option.
Does Fosters have a plastic lining? or other beer cans?
You need to be in a dry climate to not need bug protection. Where there are bugs, either a mosquito net tent (example: Sea to Summit Nano Mosquito Net) or a bug bivvy (example: Borah Bug Bivy).

Detroit's been slacking off lately.
Every year I receive a handful of emails about poncho tarps. In particular, whether or not I think they represent a viable shelter and rain gear option for thru-hiking. The short answer is yes, but with some fairly large caveats. For the handful of gearheads who are interested in the whys and wh
No Tent, No Hammock: How and Why I Use a Tarp for Backpacking
I get a lot of questions about using a tarp when I backpack, rather than a tent or a hammock. Among the questions I answer in this video are these:
--What are the main advantages of a tarp? --What about rain? --What about bugs and snakes? --How do you set up without trekking poles? --How do you use a bivy sack and an umbrella? --How important is site selection to staying dry in the rain? --How can I get started backpacking with a tarp?
And here’s a FOLLOW-UP video titled “More Square Tarp Set-Ups,” featuring some of the ways I set up my tarp when I used it to thru-hike the entire Appalachian Trail in 2018–youtube.com/watch?v=zetBiNj9NMc

My Favorite BUDGET Hiking Gear (Full Gear List)

Backpacking and hiking gear can be really expensive, but it doesn't have to be! You can get extremely nice things for extremely cheap if you would like to. In a lot of cases I choose the cheap gear instead of the really expensive gear! So all of what I am recommending here, I personally have used for hundreds or thousands of miles and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.

I have a solar bike trailer that I use as a charging station. It has a 200W Allpowers 36V solar panel and an Elejoy boost charge controller. In good sun it puts out over 3 amps to charge my 48V, 20 aH bike battery, which is about the same as my 120V plug in charger does. If you angle it toward the sun you can get 25% to 50% more power than a flat top configuration. I can pull the trailer behind the ebike, but I don't do that much because it is more fun to ride without a trailer. I would estimate that the 200W solar panel would add 25 miles to a daily ride. My battery does 25 miles, so it could have a 50 mile range in a day, but then you would have an empty battery and would have to charge it the next day. That is with zero pedaling, any pedaling energy would be added to that range. When my bike is charged up, I connect the solar panel to a microinverter (balcony power) and it adds power to my 120VAC house system on the grid, to reduce my electric bill.
Becoming a Subversive,
The most effective way to show one's disdain for the current state of human civilization is to make and wear silly hats. By wearing a silly hat, one shows that one has no respect for the norms of society, and one becomes a dangerous subversive.

Lightweight or even “ultra-lightweight” backpacking is nothing new of course. But when did the term as we now know it come about?

Inflatable seat pads as sleeping pad
Our V-Seat inflatable camping seat cushion is durable for outdoor use and comfortable enough for the indoors, too. Good for planes, offices, and campsites.
I bought two of these seat pads and I am hoping to use them as a sleeping pad. I have tried to use foam pads but don't sleep well and have back pain the next day. I am hoping that these inflatable pads will work when placed under the hips and shoulders. They are not large, only 14"x14", so they will have to be strategically placed and moved when switching from back to side sleeping. 2.6 ounces for each, so 5.2 ounces total. Compare this to 14 ounces for a short Static V pad.
I am still testing them. Ideally they would be the only sleeping pad, but I may use them together with a foam pad. I have no idea if this will actually work.
Why did SW ON go conservative? Is that normal?

I find that youtube videos can be very helpful if I search for a subject of interest. Freetube has a good search function for youtube. Freetube usually works for me, although sometimes I have to change my vpn location.
I also have a number of channels that I follow using RSS (QuiteRSS). I can be very selective in which channels to follow. I regularly add and delete channels. I use Freetube to search subjects and find channels to follow related to those subjects. I watch the RSS videos in a librewolf browser that deletes cookies every time I shut it down, and it has medium privacy settings.
The youtube feed is horrible, as are the advertisements. I don't get any advertisements, I am not sure if it is because of adblock or if it is because I never sign in to google/youtube on my device. The sidebar of related videos is somewhat like a feed and contains a lot of junk, but occasionally I find an interesting video or channel by looking at the sidebar while watching a video.
I am happy with the way my setup is working now, but of course things could change at any time.
