Plus chaos chasers, ghost motorways, the secret symbols hiding in your street, and a rationalist death cult.

I thought that there was no evidence that wind turbines were statistically likely to be hit by a bird.
I'll have to look it up, but it was generally understood that birds were able to avoid objects, even predictable moving ones.

Because there is a small war going on, backed mostly by Americans, because of the generally positive LGBTQ+ nature here.
Americans then like to call other people names as to try and deflect from how much worse it is at home for them.
An example for reference.

Note how I didn't reference any of those for ports.
I said that the small factor computer has more USB4 ports than any other, which the Mac Mini does. I also see people downvoted, but couldn't provide a single alternative.

Why not a community here, why a closed corporate platform such as Discord?

Apple customers are return customers, regardless of how badly they are treated.
Because Apple hardware is just better for certain use-cases. I can't think of a single other manufacturer that would sell me a small form factor computer with 4 or 5 Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports. I would have to purchase a system and add a couple of PCIe cards.
Because of this, you get a halo effect.

I would be fine if the instance took a blanket policy of
- No racism
- No sexism
- No homophobia
As long as we could also flag to remove all those unconstructive comments where folks from Blahaj who come in and blanket slag off the population of the UK for the actions of a few.
None of the parties that got meaningful votes ran with any anti-trans policies, they were all very much pro, it's mostly come from a small group of American funded activists.

We can hold ourselves to a higher standard though?
Just because the government have become a bunch of pricks, doesn't mean that we have to. However without context, or being in control I have no idea what is expected here.
If a user of server A posts on a comment on server B, doesn't the admin on server B remove the comment, or is the request "your user, you admin them"?
What is being expected of you here?

It is hypocritical and laughable for the UK to lecture other countries on slave labour
Where is the lecture, or is simply not enabling other countries to engage in this "lecturing"?
I see more lecturing from others about the UK here. That we are not allowed to reject slave labour because of actions in the past.
It is still, also, right for anyone to call out countries for using slave labour.
You can't have it both ways. Either we are allowed to call them out, or we can't.

Yep, no criticism from me. I don't have Prime these days so I was blind to the second half of the store with the offer. 🤦
I do see with some regularity comments from people confused with the store that's providing the offer, so it might be worth opening up that discussion? I'd much rather talk about free games than who is providing the offer.

Especially when they are in a country that has slave labour now. 🤦

No she's not.
A few hundred year ago, some people did some bad things therefore I can't be against said bad things?
Fucking ridiculous.
Perhaps they should take responsibility for forced slave labour that actually is happening now in their country, but then they couldn't criticise us for hypocrisy without being hypocritical themselves.

You are correct. I am dumb.
It should be Amazon+GOG, not "/" because it requires both.
I read it as requiring both because that's the rules, but you are correct. It does not actually say that if you don't know.
Perhaps for clarification, as I don't see that spelled out. Would it be [Amazon][GOG]
if it was available via two stores, rather than a combined?

Does apt remove
remove apt?

Riot?

I just went into GameStop/Cex and they didn't let me just walk out with a disc.
No one said GOG.

Ah, Americans who are currently fighting to own slaves again, and kill all poor and LGBTQ+.
Please tell us more.

The reviews said that it was a better card than the other brand.
Just imagine how bad those must have been!
They don't know they've been ripped off.

The courteous thing to do, if your not sure there is space, is to stop and wait until the moving obstacles have cleared out of the way.

Is that the best response?
I'm still waiting for Boris to give us bendy bananas, or was that just bullshit?

I don't see anything in Mannys post that was "pro-Brexit". Its a stupid idea now, and it was a stupid idea then.
The only things I see are that all the complaints from the article are stupid because they have nothing to do with Brexit. There will always be a "cloud of Brexit hate", because there are only downsides dreamt as positives by the deranged. However being in the EU will not help the country with a recession when Tories, and Labour don't do anything that would actually help with a recession.

Britain is a rich country with the world’s 6th largest economy and the highest tax income for decades, which raises a simple question - why do we seem so broke?

Should we create a mega thread for show recommendations?
I don't want to stop interest in UK TV, however I have seen a few questions about UK TV recommendations (maybe not all in this sub).
I remember seeing this happen a lot in the UK TV subs on Reddit which always ended up being the same 20 shows giving a low signal to noise, so I was wondering whether we could preempt it by making a mega thread to point people to to improve the quality of recommendations. Perhaps have some rules, such as only a single show per comment so people can vote on what they did or didn't enjoy and end up with a ranked list?
Other thoughts I had were a mega thread per type of show, so popular sitcoms or police procedurals don't drown out interesting dramas, and therefore an index pinned to point people to?
[Edit] Maybe each comment should contain the location where it can be watched? Might be hard as region restrictions mean that folks outside the UK wouldn't add iPlayer URLs.

Puy du Fou scopes opinion and reveals proposed location

Puy du Fou is scoping opinions on plans for a site in Oxfordshire and has revealed the proposed location.

A multi-million pound theme park proposing to build a new site in Oxfordshire is formally "scoping opinions" and has revealed the earmarked location.
Puy du Fou declared its interest last year in wanting a site to be built in Oxfordshire near Bicester.
It currently has a site in Spain and France and is planning on opening two more locations before 2030, which includes the site in Cherwell.
The multi-award winning theme park has no rides. Instead, it is a unique concept which offers a multitude of live shows and immersive experiences, all set in historical time periods.
Savills submitted a "scoping opinion" report to Cherwell District Council on behalf of Puy du Fou earlier this month.
This follows public exhibitions held in Bicester in July, which gave residents, businesses and officials the opportunity to share their thoughts, raise concerns and to learn more about the theme park.
RFU pay: Bill Sweeney & Tom Ilube could face vote of no confidence as review of executive pay to begin - BBC Sport

RFU bosses Bill Sweeney and Tom Ilube could face a vote of no confidence, with a motion calling for their dismissal gathering support.

The Rugby Football Union has announced an independent review of its controversial executive pay scheme as a growing grassroots rebellion threatens to force out bosses Bill Sweeney and Tom Ilube in a matter of weeks.
...
In November it was revealed that Sweeney was paid £742,000 in the year up to June 2024, significantly up from the £430,000 he received in the Covid-affected year of 2019-20 after taking office in 2019.
However, his 2024 pay was also supplemented by a bonus of £358,000, as part of a 'long-term incentive plan' (LTIP) scheme signed off by chairman Ilube and intended to recognise the salary sacrificed by senior leaders during the pandemic, while being linked to various parts of the organisation's performance.
In total, Sweeney was paid £1.1m.
The RFU declared record £37.9m operating losses last month, only a few weeks after announcing plans to lay off more than 40 staff in the latest round of redundancies.
The RFU also shed jobs in 2018 and 2020.

Dishwasher tablets that don't come with loads of plastic?
I'm always looking for ways to reduce my plastic waste, and manufacturer's always seem to be trying to find ways to trick me.
I normally get the Lidl dishwasher tablets as they are the only brand that appears to come plastic free, cardboard box, and tablets wrapped in a dissolvable cellulose film. However sometimes I can't get there as its not always convenient.
Latest was CoOp that sold a cardboard box of tablets, but then each tablet was bloody wrapped in plastic, which is probably worse than just a plastic bag of the bastards.
Does anyone else know of brands that are safe to buy because they won't try to trick you with hidden plastics?

The National Crime Agency says it recovered the weapons during a Kingsclere house raid on Tuesday.

NCA branch commander Chris Hill said it was "a very significant haul".
Officers also recovered 11 imitation firearms - an AK-47, an MP40 sub-machine gun and nine revolvers, along with a range of gun component parts.
The agency said tests were ongoing to verify if one of the Glocks and one of the shotguns were viable.
Mr Hill said the weapons "had the potential to cause devastation" within the community.
"This is a very significant haul," he continued.
"We've identified and prevented a large number of lethal weapons rea

More problems at new Faraday Road football ground in Newbury just two weeks after grand reopening

The changing rooms at Faraday Road have been deemed too small so Newbury FC cannot play league matches there.

When Newbury Football Club returned to Faraday Road on November 9, many saw it as the end of a six-year nightmare.
But the club’s exile now seems set to continue.
The Thames Valley Premier League has refused to approve the facilities, declaring the changing rooms to be too small and not up to league standards.
The club immediately appealed the decision, but the league has reaffirmed its stance.
The ground, rumoured to have cost around £400,000 of public money, is now unable to be used for league football by the town’s top club.
This means that West Berkshire Council will now have to alter the facilities just two weeks after they were opened.
In response to this news first being reported, West Berkshire Council issued the following statement:
“Earlier this month we were delighted to welcome Newbury FC back to play their first game at Faraday Road after several years. We’ve worked hard over the past 18 months to get things in place for the community and organised football.
“We ha

What are your red flags for job interviews?
I was looking at a potential new job until it occurred to me to ask about dealing with "on-call" support.
As I work in tech, there is usually an expectation that some level of support is handled off hours in case systems go down. However this position didn't have any compensation for making yourself available and generally only 15 mins from a phone or computer to support the systems. The best they could offer was "time in-lieu" if you get called, which is basically saying they'll let you work your contracted maximum hours despite it being unsociable hours.
Fuck that.
After seeing elsewhere someone commenting that they would refuse to on-call if there was also a "return to office", because if they had to go to the office to work, then how could they possibly support it from home, it made me wonder what other things should I remember to enquire about when interviewing and asking the hiring company?
