Wasn't prepared for all the dudes telling me to beat my kids

It's always in a joking manner... but not really? Just like "yeah you gotta pop em once or twice so they'll know". Idk shits weird

  • You can just change careers whenever. No one cares. When I was younger it seemed so set in stone like you learn a trade you're a plumber for life. Go to college your major is what you're doing for life. It's not true I knew a philosophy major that was working as an elevator engineer. Do HVAC for 20 years then do something else. It's fine

Most companies I've worked for in manufacturing think they are God's gift to the industry when really they're just sitting on some clutch patents and being run into the ground. Idk how there is still production work here

    Baby number 2 sleeping peacefully

Hospital was having all kinds of problems today but the c section went smooth, the parade of family visiting is done, mom and baby are down for the count. Very happy to be scrunched up on this uncomfortable ass hospital chair

  • Was talking to my friend about this the other day in the context of trade school but I think it applies here: you can change careers whenever you want. When we were younger it felt like such a big decision to pick a trade or in this case a major because it seemed like you were locking in for life, but you can just like... go do something else. No one cares. Someone wanted to hire me as an engineer the other day and I struggled to graduate high-school. Education is kind of a shotgun approach. You get a really broad understanding of a lot of thing because your actual job will probably only use a fraction of it and they're trying to prepare you to not be completely lost wherever you end up.

Also old teachers are really lazy and the test is probabaly pretty similar, if not identical, to the one they gave last year. Good to know people a little older or save things for your younger siblings.

  • The horde aspect might make it easier. The ones on twitter at least you can tell are just running the same script through a thesaurus basically. 20 people leaving the same comment is a little more obvious than just one

  • Yeah local stuff keeps me there. Even that's getting worse, every local station/paper has 5-10 bots replying to every post with completely off topic right-wing stuff.

It's still a good place to follow news. Shits getting bad though. Ads are way more intrusive than they used to be and it's like 90% credit card scams or explicit white power stuff

  • 20 degrees is just a rule of thumb most ACs have a specific temperature change they're designed to do. You can go past it, that's just what the intented to do and it might not work as well or be able to do it. Fwiw I'd always heard 30 degrees farenheight for most window units. Had an hvac guy explain it to me years ago but fucked if I remember how it works

E: not sure why I'm getting downvotes this is like a very common thing. Google it https://frederickair.com/home-comfort/reduce-the-stress-on-your-ac-with-the-20-degree-rule/

Is there anything actually useful or novel about "AI"?

Feel like we've got a lot of tech savvy people here seems like a good place to ask. Basically as a dumb guy that reads the news it seems like everyone that lost their mind (and savings) on crypto just pivoted to AI. In addition to that you've got all these people invested in AI companies running around with flashlights under their chins like "bro this is so scary how good we made this thing". Seems like bullshit.

I've seen people generating bits of programming with it which seems useful but idk man. Coming from CNC I don't think I'd just send it with some chatgpt code. Is it all hype? Is there something actually useful under there?
