  • Laws don't usually center around ability to do something but actually doing it. That is, using signal may be fine, turning on disappearing messages isn't. But you can't know. Most of our system is built on trust, assuming that people who got to that level, passed clearance, etc...are worthy of our trust. On the other hand, what's even the alternative?

  • The unix philosophy is kinda vague and always felt more like do as I say not as I do. But I think the more generous response is that the philosophy is focused on user space applications.

  • I think the answer is yes. Last time I did a survey of options a lot of them seemed highly unreliable. Framework was one exception but... unfortunately I think you kinda just have to like the framework idea. The massive premium you pay there just doesn't make financial sense unless you actively (ab)use your hardware such that it might really fail within the useful lifetime of the processor. (Ie I can buy two laptops for the price of one framework, so...why not just do that if the first fails?)

  • If you talked to a couple and they told you they spend $20,000 per year eating out, you might be shocked. If you know or find out that they are a pair of married plastic surgeons, you might think that's high but whatever it's a couple of percent of their income.

  • There isn't some magic to this. Someone puts out a game thats as popular as say bg3 but doesn't run on steam deck and all these memes will go away overnight. Just hope that doesn't happen.
