  • So.... then host your own instance and set up your own rules and mod /de-federate how you see fit?

It's an offer you don't have to take as-is, and this shows it's the exact opposite of a failure: you can be the change you demand from others.

  • Yeah, but the astroturfing botfarms are only activated to foment "oohh aahh yeah gotta be responsible with our children's debt" opinions when it's the other way around. And of course all big "news" entertainment papers and shows are in on it because of access and money. I mean, they're all doing what they're paid for and the general public can't be arsed to be smart about it, call bullshit and cut off the value extraction because of perceived inconveniences (data harvesting = ability to manipulate/steer public opinion = value to sell to those seeking power & control). the populace is the commodity being sold here.

    We are all cooked

  • Was trying this, but I've had issues with the app not properly synchronizing with the server. Does that work for you and if so, what's your setup?

Was supposed to replace "Bring" and due to the issues, currently using grocy, where sync works, but is otherwise very tedious to manage inventory.

  • Make political advertisement / political messaging illegal on entertainment platforms. There's precedent for highly regulated TV advertisements, why is there such a broad exception for unregulated manipulative online advertising? Why is cigarette, religious, drug advertising forbidden but political lies and agendas allowed, endorsed even? Fines need to be 50% of monthly worldwide profit and increase by 5% for each month of noncompliance.

This simple legislation would instantly solve a lot of current issues with what's wrong and protect free, democratic nations.

  • Fuck that other site

the GPL’s sweeping liability exclusions might not be enforceable in some EU jurisdictions.1

Interfaces, protocols, and APIs are not always covered by copyright under EU law, depending on their functional nature.

As for MIT licence: its brevity doesn't reduce applicable laws—it merely omits explicit handling of them, which can create legal uncertainty in civil law jurisdictions.

Especially hard is working in a community where everyone accepts a commiter's agreement (contributers license agreement, I guess: CLA), and to handling all author metadata GDPR applies to anyone who handles the source code in a DVCS for non-private purpose. Having a brief licence when the CLA is typically 1 through 3 pages of A4 text is not that much of an upside.

    Disclaimer: IANAL.

    Footnotes:

The rights holders (authors and/or licensors) shall be liable without limitation in the event of wilful intent, fraud, gross negligence, damage to life, limb or health and if liability cannot be limited or excluded by law. In case of a negligent breach of an obligation that is material for the execution of this osc license agreement (material duty), the rights holders (authors and/or licensors) shall be liable up to the amount of damage that is typically foreseeable at the time this osc license agreement is concluded.

    Any further liability is excluded.

Writing this down has nearly no effect, since you implicitly have these responsibilities anyway

  • iPhone photos

  • What's this photos app (is it multiplatform?) and are there requirements for the computer in terms of software it needs to run?

Otherwise Localsend or KDEConnect are friends for transferring files.

  • As long as the technology gatekeepers are subject to an untrustworthy government, they cannot be trusted either and will always act to subjugate you. Unfortunately, knowledge and education is the only effective measure, therefore becoming technologically literate is the only way to protect yourself.

Much like parents teaching a child "not to speak to the bad people" one must learn how to avoid speaking to bad people, regardless of having learned to speak well in general.

    But weeks are exaggerated.

  • The real issue likely. Can't vacuum up vast amounts of international messages to generate billions in revenue when you can't read them (looking at you Meta and Google)

I started donating a bit regularly, because I value them operating servers at the scale that my circle has a low barrier to entry, while I can still audit and even roll my own signal network (not that I have the time for that)

  • It's very subtle, and official travel recommendations have been updated to reflect the possibility of trouble when your passport details are not perceived as consistent. The public services move slowly, but anyone I know that this would apply to has long understood the language and has opted for avoiding travel to the states. It's not like your life is ruined by not seeing Orlando ¯(ツ)

  • I feel this is a lack oft creativity. Protests need to be peaceful, but disruptive. In a car based society, protest by car? If 5,000,000 cars "meet up" in any given metropolitan area, that areas productivity goes to zero, those in power won't even have any recourse, there aren't enough police/towtrucks to counter this, and if so it would take days or weeks. Only coordinated driving and parking/traffic jam required.

Effective protest should instill fear in those in power - the message is, with the sheer number of people right outside your building, could easily crush you if they so choose. A few guards can not offer protection in this case. The idea is, with this realization, that violence is not a good escalation, as in the end the powerful few will never come out on top.

This only works if the powerful few actually believe the masses will go as far as needed to effect the demanded change.

From outside, it appears the US protests favor comfort over conflict, thus are viewed as lacking credibility and therefore, pose no danger to the power class. As long as the individual prioritizes their selves before acting as a collective, including taking the risk of collective punishment, the protest remains unbelievable, therefore ineffective and easily ignored.

Maya Jane Coles - Die Hard

I am not quite sure what all qualifies as deep house nowadays, so hopefully I'm not out of genre. Anyway, it's a pretty nice tune! Enjoy!
