  • Oh no! You put republicans in my showerthoughts. Oh, that's a strange mix.

    I think I'm gonna puke.

  • Sentiment. The word is sentiment.

A sentient is an intelligent being. You are a sentient. One might fall for a sentient, but then they would have to consider wedding plans.

  • No. For your stabby crimes, you are henceforth condemned to deny other's their medical insurance. And other evil shit.

  • There ya go. Yes, 'threading a moral needle with bad choices' is all just pure imagery. Nothing real was said. There's no actual situation under discussion, just vapor.

  • Now, this is some forward thinking. Straight into the solution! You only have to do this once. Pick the biggest jerk and enjoy it. Draw blood (metaphorically).

  • You just became part of the joke, about the joke, about the joke, about the joke. So meta.

I think the new sidebar shouuld consist of "I dislike this community's name - purely because it's not memorable nor easily writable."

  • Ok, I see a reason to ask. Irrellephant moved the comm. And since then they've been posting some greatest hits to spice up the new comm. That seems like a mod trying to be a good host, but its worth noticing.

TBH I don't have much use for the memes. I come here to hear IT people bitch.

  • Right. And you figure that out by who built the app. Oh, that was that one guy. He always used sql02. And then everything there was migrated to tho old NAS. And then the new CTO guy had us move it to S3. And then that other guy needed it, and we restored it to M$sQLExpress on the intern's desktop. So that's where its at now. Over there. In the corner. With the guy that doesn't get paid.

    ... Was it important?

  • Can't be as bad as my boss. "server-01" Even that could be worse. I've worked with servers named Mothra and Godzilla, but I was not in the eyetea dept.

  • Ooo. That's ugly. Way to go.

I have love/hate relationship with Proxmox Backup Server (PBS). It's a groundbreaking product, cutting edge technology, entirely free, and a complete pain in the ass. Because of all of the above, I've spent a good deal of time haunting the user forum, irritating the staff, and spreading unpleasant truths about PBS.

So, what's amazing about Proxmox Backup Server? It's the realized dream of complete dedupe. There are a couple similar products out there, but largely whatever you think you know about backups probably only barely applies to PBS.

PBS should be deployed on SSD, because its really a huge database of file chunks. (Literally, they are called .chunks.) PBS scans its .chunks to see if it already has a .chunk, and if it does, it is not copied. Absolute dedupe, every time. A backup job consists of a whole lot of reading and calculating, but as little writing as possible. The actual backup itself, such as it exists, is a set of metadata that says which .chunks will be ne

  • The title was a quote from an article about that crazy kennedy and autism. Not surprised nobody noticed. I want to ignore that guy too ...

  • Um ... This doxing threat seems like a really dumb move, on par with daring Anonymous to take you down. Really, if you want to play Internet hardball, there are folks that would love to show you how it works. (Not me!)

  • Its not vellum. Think back to science class. The fancy roll up maps and charts. That fabric stuff. Not quite as heavy as the big world maps tho.

You've made a solid suggestion there. If I did sell it in any way, I'd probly recoup my costs and then release it under some free license.

  • Some of the older folks here took Drafting classes in high school. I had all the tools it took to do this, but not a shred of the skill. A drafter was like a junior engineer. A whole career path that no longer exists.

Art was science. Look at the gorgeous color. The fabric is like a thin canvas. Metal rails top and bottom. Its going on my wall. ... After I figure out how to safely mount it.

    Tear Down Ham Radio Site

My good friend's father passed away several years ago. We are going to clean out the garage. He ran a ham radio station. He did a LOT of awful wiring. (USA 110v systems)

I'm gonna clean it all up so there are no fires.

What can I expect? Badly wired 210v setups? Capacitors carrying deadly charge? I'm a computer nerd, and know very little about ham radio.
