  • A criminal prosecution for cutting down a tree is rare and the potential for any prison time for such an offense — not to mention that the maximum penalty for criminal damage is 10 years behind bars — is possibly unprecedented, said attorney Sarah Dodd who specializes in tree law.

Is tree law related to bird law?

  • This was always my experience as well. The deeper you go into mathematics, the more abstract / theoretical things seem to become.

Funny you should mention digitized waveforms, a class on signals and transforms was by far the hardest part of my degree. I really struggled with both the math and the visualization. Probably the thing that ended up helping me grasp some of the course's concepts most was messing around with convolution reverb effects for audio processing.

  • The worst part about the comment summaries is that bots are using the summary to come up with incredibly generic comments, which are then liked and give them high visibility. You can tell who they are due to the suggestive photo, and the 50% chance of nudity in their profile, and the 100% chance of that profile containing a link to a cam site (that will presumably scam you in some way). If you watch new, popular videos, there is almost certainly a porn bot in the comments. YouTube doesn't seem to give a shit either, considering that it seems like at least half of these accounts are using the same profile image.

    NVIDIA driver rant

Figured I would share this in case anyone is in the market for a new GPU.

For the last month or so, every NVIDIA driver released has been incompatible with 4000 series cards (at least when using display port). As soon as any of the last 4 driver releases are installed, the screen goes black, forcing you to boot into safe mode then roll back or uninstall the driver.

The 5000 series cards are very new - it's crazy that the seem to have just stopped supporting 1-2 year old cards so they can focus on their new line. That being said, the new drivers are allegedly not great for the 5000 series either.

TL;DR: Consider AMD, it'll probably work better with Linux anyways :)

It seems M$ really doesn't want people to keep using WIndows

I am currently using a legitimate copy of Windows 11, on the latest version. Just started getting this message after the latest update.

Considering I already have Linux and Mac as alternatives, if they actually pull my license they will just lose a lifelong customer. Their business decisions truly boggle the mind...

Spotify quietly limits Release Radar playlist to 30 tracks from 200, tries to convince users that's how it always was

I have used Spotify for years, in spite of the fact that they pay artists terribly - the reason for this was that out of all the streaming services, they had the largest and most complete weekly playlist of new releases.

Having a new release playlist like this is quite important for DJs (or people who curate popular playlists... or people who just like music). I searched online and found that people have made posts on reddit stating that their new release playlists have also been severely limited.

After going to the Spotify forums, I came upon the bullshit I have linked, in which a Spotify employee tells everyone complaining that the playlist has always been limited to 30 tracks, and if anyone received more it was a temporary glitch (despite people providing evidence of having 200 tracks for 5+ years), or was caused by external factors (??? lol).

Personally I hate it when companies do things like this. I am not sure whether they are trying to get their power users to quit, or if the

    Seeding issues

    Ahoy mateys,

I've recently been trying to set up a win10 machine for seeding, but have been having weird network issues shortly after I lock the screen and stop interacting with it. My internet connection goes down entirely for this PC, but not the whole network. Restarting fixes the issue.

I have already ensured power saving is off for my network card - does anyone have any other suggestions that I could try?

    Thank you!

Can anyone recommend a VPN that has working port forwarding?

I already had a cyberghost sub, but decided to try to switch to something better for seeding.

I have tested ProtonVPN and PIA, but ended up refunding PIA as the port forwarding didn't work once. ProtonVPN has worked maybe 5% of the time, and will likely be refunded as well.

Is there such a thing as a VPN that can consistently forward ports? I'm considering trying AirVPN next, but am hoping someone could confirm whether it works or not first. I'm also open to any other recommendations.

    Thank you!

    Any dashboard alternatives for Xbox?

The new dashboard UI has by far the worst UX I have seen in a gaming product - they removed the ability to customize anything, instead opting to turn the whole home page into an extension of the store. You can no longer have it only show things you own, nevermind things you're interested in.

With this in mind, is there any way to load a different dashboard onto the system using dev mode? I'm seriously considering selling my Xbox and buying a ps5 at this point... I am also morally content pirating every game Microsoft makes from now until I die.

Is Termux still the best terminal emulator for Android?

I've seen a few other terminal emulators floating around different app stores - has anyone tried these, and found that they were actually better than Termux?

Would love to check out any recommendations!

    Paid Sample Libraries

As mentioned above, you don't really need to buy any additional samples. However, if you want some premade drum sounds or need to acquire licensed samples for a project, here are some options.

    Recommended Paid Plugins

I'd advise watching videos / researching anything you are thinking about buying, as it is likely that there is something similar that is free.

    Paid Ableton Classes / Tutors

Some people swear by finding a tutor you like, and paying for a pre-recorded course or lessons. These can get very expensive (see Berklee classes), but if you find one that seems like a good fit for you, it might be worth it.
