Hey everyone! This is just a minor update that addresses a few issues with the recent v0.6.0 update. To see the full release notes of v0.6.0, check out the previous post: https://github.com/thunder...
Hey!
If you're specifically talking about marking private messages as read, you'll have to use the latest nightly build (v0.7.0-1) in order to do it as it was just added recently.
If you're running v0.6.1, it won't be possible to mark an individual message as read unfortunately 😅
Hey!
Thanks for reporting this. Could you also make a GitHub issue on this with some reproducible steps so that I can troubleshoot it? (e.g., the instance you're on, the link you tap on that causes the issue, etc.)
Hey there!
This issue was noted and is already fixed in a nightly TestFlight build. See this GitHub issue for more details.
If you're not on the TestFlight build, there is still a workaround for this issue by setting Thunder to portrait mode temporarily. Doing this should bring back the back button on the top left!
Hey there!
Could you tell me what version of Thunder you're using and the instance you're using? Additionally, does this happen to all images or only a few images on the feed?
If it only happens to a few images on the feed, I would try to increase the time Thunder tries to determine the image dimension size. Here is a quick link to that setting: Thunder Setting: Debug > Feed > Image Dimension Timeout
Is there a way to finally contribute? I've got minimal coding expertise but would like to contribute in some way.
Of course! We're always looking for contributors to help with Thunder regardless of level of experience.
Here's some general information about Thunder
- Thunder is developed using Flutter which allows for cross platform compatibility (iOS and Android at the moment)
- We have Weblate for translations, if you'd like to help localize Thunder into other languages
- If you don't know where to start, feel free to look through our existing issues on GitHub or join our Matrix space. I'll gladly answer any questions you have regarding our codebase!
Done! This should land in the next nightly build
I believe this is expected behaviour! The comment itself was made from a different instance, but the original post was posted in the lemmy.world community.
Glad you figured out the issue!
I'll take a note here and see if there's a way to add some notification when this type of situation happens 😅
Does it work if you try to visit the comment from your instance? For example, this is the same comment but on lemmy.world: https://lemmy.world/comment/16079890
Hey! I just tried it myself as well on v0.7.0-1 and it seemed to have worked (navigated to the post and showed comments)

Incidentally, after submitting this post, I tapped the eyeball to view it and nothing happened.
This is a known issue and was fixed recently (but not yet released) See https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder/pull/1797!
Hey there, fellow Flutter dev! _
Thanks for tagging me in this and bringing this to my attention! I'll take a look at this issue on my end as well and apply some fixes to it.
Thank you! I'll definitely try to sprinkle a bit of new features here and there when I can, but the majority of my time will be spent on improving the core app stability and performance 😅
Thanks for the feedback!
I do agree that it feels like there's wasted space when in landscape mode. It would be helpful if you could also create a GitHub issue on this so that we can better track the issue!
Hey there, thanks for the kind words!
You're right - at this time, there's no way to create or reply to private messages just yet. This is something I want to introduce but I'm just currently backed up with other (not as fun but arguably more important) tasks like preparing Thunder for the upcoming Lemmy API changes and app stability/performance improvements 😅
Given that this has been requested a few times already, I might be able to implement a quick version of this just to have it as an option!
Thanks for checking this!
If possible, I would suggest creating a new GitHub issue with some more details on the bug (e.g., instance, version, reproducible steps, etc.) This helps us better keep track of all the issues/feature requests so they don't get lost.
user avatar is hidden for all accounts that don't have a custom profile picture set, but shown for those who do have one
I would also suggest creating a feature request for this on our GitHub!
Hmm, that's not expected. This should only happen for users who don't have a profile picture. Are you noticing this for all users?
In the example picture, neither of us actually have a profile picture, so it defaults to the first letter!
Hey there, thanks for the report!
If you are able to submit a new GitHub issue for this, that would be helpful as it allows us to keep track of these easier.
Hey there, thanks for the report!
If you are able to submit a new GitHub issue for this, that would be helpful as it allows us to keep track of these easier.
Hey again! Thanks for the report - it would be helpful if you could submit this as an issue on GitHub so that we can track it better.
While I do try to keep track of issues and feature requests submitted here, it often gets lost if there's no associated GitHub issue 😅
Hey there, thanks for the report!
This is a known issue and has been fixed (but not yet released) See here: https://github.com/thunder-app/thunder/pull/1738

Reminder: users on instances upgrading to 0.19
Hey everyone, just a friendly reminder for those on instances that are either about to upgrade or have recently upgraded from version 0.18 to 0.19 (e.g., lemmy.world, lemmy.blahaj.zone, sh.itjust.works, etc.).
After your instance updates to 0.19, please remember to re-authenticate (i.e., log out and log back in). This is because of some authentication changes made in 0.19 which invalidates the session.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! This is a minor update which fixes some of the issues that were introduced in v0.2.5.
If you are using the Google Play version or App Store version, please note that it may take a bit of time before you receive the update. Now onto the update notes. This is mainly a hot-fix update to address the following issues:
ℹ General
- Fixed some issues revolving around markdown links not rendering properly (duplicated text, missing links, etc.)
- Fixed an issue where the comment text scaling setting was not being applied properly
- Fixed an issue where logging into an account with 2FA enabled was not working
- Added more compatibility with the latest Lemmy 0.19.x changes. Note that this is still not final and may break at any time as 0.19.x is still under development
As always, this is an alpha release, so do expect bugs to pop up here and there. If you encounter any issues, creating an issue on GitHub goes a long way!

Hello everyone, its me again back with another announcement. Thunder v0.2.5 is now officially released on GitHub, Play Store and the App Store (pending reviews). This latest update brings a lot of new additions, tweaks, and performance improvements to enhance your Thunder experience!
If you encounter any bugs or issues, creating an issue on GitHub goes a long way! I can’t go through the full list of changes here, but I’ll mention some of the bigger ones:

- Lemmy 0.19.x support is now partially supported on Thunder (see known issues below). This will hopefully allow for a smooth transition experience once the official Lemmy 0.19.x update is released. This also means that instance blocking and the new sort types are available to use for instances running on 0.19.x.

Thunder Development Update
Happy early Halloween for those who celebrate it! 👻 I'm back again to share some updates on Thunder’s ongoing development for those who might not be keeping tabs on our progress in the Matrix space or GitHub.
As mentioned in the previous update post, our primary focus for the next update is to add support for Lemmy 0.19.x and enhance the overall performance and stability of the app.
We have gotten a lot of work done in the past few weeks as we ramp up for the next Lemmy update. The next Thunder nightly build will have basic support for Lemmy 0.19.x instances and other new features. Here's a brief summary of the main features we will be releasing in the next Thunder nightly build coming to GitHub and TestFlight sometime next week:
- Support for Lemmy 0.19.x instances. You should be able to log in and perform all basic interactions on 0.19.x instances.
- Support for blocking instances. Note that this feature is only enabled for 0.19.x instances

Thunder Development Update
Hello, everyone! Just wanted to share a quick update on Thunder's ongoing development for those who might not be keeping tabs on our progress in the Matrix space.
Our primary focus for the next update is to add support for Lemmy 0.19.x and enhance the overall performance and stability of the app. This translates to fewer visible features as our emphasis is on refining Thunder's underlying structure to make it easier to add even more features in the future.
If you're following the pre-release/nightly versions of Thunder, keep an eye out for a new version in the next few days. Be fully prepared to know that these pre-release versions may contain major bugs which could cause Thunder to crash or behave unexpectedly, especially with the underlying structural changes to Thunder so far.
Some new features to expect in the upcoming pre-release include:
- Anonymous account support: you will be able to add new anonymous accounts for a specific instances and explore the instance without loggin

General Thunder Updates
Hey everyone! I thought I'd give a quick update on progress/status on Thunder as there has been little activity on here (from me) for the past couple of weeks. There was a small hiatus on pre-releases/nightlies and general releases for Thunder because of some personal circumstances on my end, but things should be back on track now!
I plan to release a couple of pre-releases/nightlies over the upcoming days on the Thunder Nightly community for additions/changes that have been added over the past few weeks! Expect to have a general release of the new features sometime next week or the week after!
A huge thanks again to everyone who has been actively contributing while I've been away, and as always, we are constantly looking for more contributors to the project. If there is anyone out there who would like to provide translations for more languages, feel free to reach out on GitHub or Matrix. All of the upcoming features were contributed by members of the community!
