  • as an experienced 100x ninja rockstar myself, those are exactly the kind of people you don't want pushing patches to systems like this - they know just enough to be dangerous. Unless, of course, you want to move fast and break the, uhh, US Treasury... in which case, critical support

  • Yep, that's the thing that gets me every time.

One of the key principles of my job is to make it as easy as possible for people to do the "right" thing and as hard as possible to make bad choices. And I'm constantly applying that principle to my own workflows to outmaneuver my brain's busted reward centers so I can trick myself into doing laundry or whatever. So I'm often hyperaware of the structural inconveniences imposed on me and on all of us, and how it's a Sisyphean endeavor to try to do anything that runs counter to how society is structured. Impossible and maddening.

  • Yeah, obviously they're not going to publish the Names and Addresses bit, but they talk about how plastic production still increasing in the article, so even some milquetoast liberal "contact your representatives" or "boycott plastic companies" would be an improvement

  • security is a good one, if you like reverse engineering stuff and want to make sure you do at least a little bit of writing code, you might also like something in the devops/site reliability/infrastructure realm. Often has a lot of overlap with security too

  • One of them is a business ghoul with the previous title of "investment engineering intern" at a hedge fund, two appear to be CS-related with AI brainworms, the others are less clear to me.

I can't think of a worse group than CS and business ghoul interns to be in charge of efficiency or even "efficiency"

How/where could I track down a replacement LCD screen for a fireplace remote? (pictured)

My rental unit has a gas fireplace that's controlled by remote. The remote fell about 3 feet and the LCD shattered. The remote is still functional, the screen is just cracked and bleeding. Replacements cost $100 and I'm on the hook for it if my landlord finds out. Haven't been able to find any cheaper compatible remotes either.

Any thoughts about how I might be able to track down a replacement LCD? Is it even worth it? The LCD seems pretty specialized.
