  • The people developing vegan meat alternatives must have eaten a lot of meat beforehand so they can replicate the taste and texture.

  • I love the Field Roast veggie sausages. I don’t feel like they’re trying and failing to imitate meat, but rather that they’re trying to make something tasty that hits the form factor and general savoriness of meat. And they do that well, imo

The longer the US is unwilling to let go of fossil fuels, the further behind it will be. China already has enough of an advantage that it has secured its position as the global leader of energy technology for at least the next century.

  • Meh. Unexpectedly sick yesterday, which sucked. If I’m gonna be sick, can it at least be during the workweek so I can get out of work, instead of losing a weekend day?

    Transition-wise, I’m antsy that the doc hasn’t called me back about making an appointment to start cryopreservation. I really want to start my E, but I can’t until I’m done with that, and it feels like every step takes forever. I already had to switch clinics once because of their poor communication. The little voice in my head says that the new place is slow-rolling me in hopes that I get frustrated and leave, because they don’t want to deal with a trans patient in the current political climate. But their website says that they are happy to work with trans patients, so I might just be catastrophizing.

  • Michigan lawmakers introduce bills to tackle microplastics in the Great Lakes

  • If signed into law:

    • House Bill 4766 and Senate Bill 503 would phase out the manufacture, sale and distribution of plastic microbeads in Michigan by 2026, with stricter limits on personal care products taking effect in 2027. 
    • House Bill 4767 and Senate Bill 504 would establish a statewide program to test drinking water for microplastics between 2027 and 2030, with findings reported in 2031. 
    • House Bill 4768 and Senate Bill 505 would direct the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy to create a long-term monitoring and research plan for the Great Lakes, due by 2026.

    All sounds good to me, I hope they pass 🤞

  • It is a skill I am working on developing. I’m used to being (probably overly) agreeable, but I’ve come to realize that a lot of people read that as weakness or naïveté and try to take advantage of it. I have a hard time threading the needle of being polite but firm though.

  • I kinda see where that cashier was coming from though. I grew up in Indiana (not terribly different than Ohio), and we knew it was a garbage state. Its motto is “Crossroads of America”, which we always said just means “you have to go through here to get to somewhere better”.

  • Well, for me personally, since I’m an anarchist, I’d rather have neither. Power corrupts, and giving too much unchecked power to any individual will lead to harm. Even FDR, one of America’s “best” presidents, also oversaw redlining and the Japanese internment camps.
