  • In its analysis of pursuits from media sources, Human Rights Watch identified 10 people killed who were reportedly bystanders—not in the pursued vehicle—and 20 bystanders who were injured. The reports also included the deaths of two children—under the age of 18—including a bystander, and four children who were injured in a crash after a vehicle pursuit.

“These pursuits regularly occur in residential areas or in sensitive areas: around schools, places of worship, and hospitals,” El Paso County Commissioner David Stout said in an interview with Human Rights Watch. “DPS is often conducting pursuits at 80-100 miles per hour. They are putting our lives in danger. Comparing these policies to the Department of Justice and police departments shows that DPS is out of line with all of these other organizations and the best practices they implement.”

Sounds to me like the Department of Public Safety sure doesn’t give a flying fuck about public safety

  • Ultrasound screenings identify cancers that can be missed in mammograms, radiologists say. And they are imperative for women with dense breast tissue, a condition affecting nearly half of women over the age of 40, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Uh, being a certain age has fuck-all to do with breast density. It doesn’t suddenly change when you turn 40. And yeah, not only do mammograms become impossible to read after a certain density, but they’re painful as fuck, and ultrasounds don’t have this issue. So what the fuck? Why deny covering the cost of screenings? It doesn’t make any sense at all.

  • Bold of you to assume that the wall outlet would have a 20a breaker. Most don’t, unless they’re in a kitchen.

But you’re right about the resistance. Also, most extension cords are undersized for the loads they pull, they’re commonly made with 16 or even 18awg wire, further increasing resistance (which translates to heat).

    Halloween movie recs?

I missed out on much of the Halloween fun as a kid (thanks to my very religious upbringing) and am picking up the slack now as an adult.

This year we watched Hocus Pocus, the original Beetlejuice, Blade, and Interview With The Vampire. The up next list includes The Fly, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers, and Labyrinth.

What else should I add to this list?

Why don't we refer to twins and triples as a litter?

    Technically they're littermates...
