  • Game achievements. Apparently now the app is being killed, but its features will be integrated somehow in the Play Store itself.

  • Yes, I think it was through those services. You'd pay, receive a message with the link, and download the game. However, I've always done it the "alternative" way.

Although I had collected a bunch of them, I rarely found myself actually playing and enjoying them. The number pad, or stick, controls were atrocious and most games weren't that great. My most played were card games and Frozen Bubble (which is also on the Play Store now) on the phone, and Asphalt on my iPod Nano. Asphalt was really fun and with gyro controls.

  • the only answers you're really going to get from Lemmy are more suggestions for Federated social medias

Well, I'm fairly new to federation, but it does make a lot of sense, and it is objectively better than relying on any corporation productโ€”past, present, or future ones.

Some people want free speech, other people do not want free speech, some people want extreme moderation some people want relaxed moderation. I came here because I thought it was going to be more relaxed than Reddit but it's actually not LOL

Isn't this exactly what federation is supposed to address? If you don't like the moderation in an instance, you find one that suits your needs. There are (or there could be, at least) instances with stricter moderation and other with absolute free-speech anarchy.

The issues, at the moment, are a much smaller user base, less communities variety as compared to Reddit, and a bit of a learning curve at the very beginning. But I think it's a matter of time, and of how quickly Reddit will go downhill.

  • As a general rule, you shouldn't salt the water "generously" because the pecorino is already quite salty itself. Also, you wouldn't need to use parmigiano to balance the taste, but that's up to you to modify the recipe how you like it.

  • Thanks. It seems like the message you see might be due, while misleading, to the device hardware rather than it's OS version. At least that's what came up as one of the possible reasons after a web search.

One more reason to keep "outdated" games still on the list, as they might work for someone!

  • Says it's made for an older version of android, and won't let me download

That's odd, but also it isn't the first time someone tells me that a game is outdated while seeming to be fine on my end. May I ask what device and Android version you use?

Thanks for reporting this by the way!

What does it say? It looks good on my end, with Android 14.

    Can I suggest Drill Down

Yes, I'll add this as it's also FOSS. Thank you!

If you have other suggestions, next time please also provide a link to the game. This one has been delisted fron the Play Store so I found it on itch.io

Lists of free and paid games - UPDATE

In case anyone's interested, I've updated my list of free games. It now includes games from other sources besides the Play Store, FOSS games marked with โœ…๏ธ, and clearly stated source in brackets (such as F-droid or GitHub, e.g.).

I've also updated my other list of favorite paid games with indicators for controller support ๐ŸŽฎ to ALL games that qualify, portrait ๐Ÿ“ฑ, and 120FPS.

Before you ask, I can't add the same indicators to my free games list because those are mainly user recommendations and I don't play most of them.

You can recommend games for either list and they'll be added if criteria is matched (plus personal discretion on quality for the paid games).

    Cheers โœŒ๏ธ

  • Real life always comes first so do take your time! But it's good to know the app hasn't been abandoned. Thanks for the quick update :)

  • By cross-referencing Chat GPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and the OG Google search, I've added the 120 FPS indicator (as 120FPS) to the handful of titles that support it in my list of premium games. Took me a couple hours to go through the bullshit they were spitting out, but it beats checking 100+ games one by one lol

I'm not sure any of the titles in the list of FREE games support 120 FPS, but I'll double check.

Keep in mind that, as I found out during the process, if a games doesn't support 120 FPS now, doesn't mean it never will. The 120 FPS support to some games has been added long after release.

  • It's still time-consuming and hard work, because I'll have to check on ALL games in the list. I can't just do it with some, or it will be confusing. I will think about it.

    In the meanwhile you can:

  • No, sorry. It would be too hard to check on all games and it'd be too niche.

  • Don't forget all smartphonesโ€”except iPhones of courseโ€”still use Android, which is a Google OS with Google services. In the smartphone world, there's no real alternative to American companies. It's pretty much an American monopoly.

Issue: searching a word within a post doesn't scroll the page to visualize matching items

I tried searching for a word in a long post and the behaviour was different from other apps.

Example: within a certain post, I search for the word 'house' and get 25 matches. So I tap on the down arrow in the search box to visualize each matching item one at a time, but the post doesn't automatically scroll down.

To replicate this, you can try with one of my posts here and try searching (three-dots>Find in page) for 'F-droid'. The highlighted matching item will work as intended and go down, but once it'll pass the bottom of the screen, the post won't scroll.

My list of free games now includes FOSS!

As the title suggests, I'm now including FOSS games and games from some reputable sources besides the Play Store in my list of free games.

You can find the list pinned in this community or simply here.

Today I've updated the list with most of your recommendations collected from the comments, updated the entry criteria, and added a green checkmark โœ…๏ธ for FOSS games.

I've also added the F-droid link to some games that are both on the Play Store and on F-droid. I'm sure there are others in the list that need updating, so feel free to tell me.

Please read the edit and updated criteria before recommending your favorite games. Thank you!

Workaround fix found โ€” Tapping on Lemmy links outside the app doesn't redirect to exact destination when Summit is closed

The issue: tapping on a Lemmy link from outside the Summit app doesn't always redirect to the exact destination, but rather to Summit's homepage (subscribed communities feed).

The workaround: in case anyone is annoyed by this problem, while waiting for a fix you could try Lemmy Redirect on F-Droid. After installing it, you set it as default app for Lemmy links (make sure to open its default system settings and enable all the instances to be opened with this app). It perfectly fixed the issue and it's a good workaround while waiting that it is fixed in the Summit app itself.

Fix needed: tapping on Lemmy links outside the app doesn't redirect to exact destination when Summit is closed

I have a link to one of my posts saved in my notes.

    • When the Summit app is closed (double tap on back button), if I open this link in my notes the only thing that happens is that Summit starts, but I'm not in my post. I'm just on my main feed, home screen basically.
    • When Summit is already open in the background, if I open the link I'm redirected to the correct post.

I hope I've explained it clearly enough, and it should be easy to replicate!

What's the state of Android browsers? Want to move away from Samsung Internet

    cross-posted from: https://lemm.ee/post/58870060

I've been using Samsung Internet for a very long time, knowing it isn't the best one for privacy. However, the user experience with it is, for me, unmatched by any other browser, including Vivaldi, Brave, and any Firefox forks.

So here's what I'm looking for in a browser:

    • preferably FOSS
    • some control on privacy setting, less trackers/fingerprinting, etc. Doesn't have to be the most hardened.
    • decent dark mode for web pages (Dark Reader is OK)
    • bottom search bar
    • bottom tabs bar rather than tab switcher
    • a quit button I don't have to tap and scroll 2 times to find. Ideally it'd be placed on the main bottom bar
    • the quit button must clear cache and close all tabs, so I think it should be native and not an extension, but maybe I'm wrong?

Is there any browser that can give me that?

I'd love using Fennec as my main - and God knows I've tried multiple times to - but missing some of

Some setting items don't show in search. Also, is there no search within a community?

First of all, best Lemmy app I've tried so far and I can see the attention to details and to the customization that matters. So hats off to you for the brilliant work!

I tried searching for "draft" or "drafts" or "save" in the settings, and nothing popped up. However, there is a setting for "Save drafts automatically". I suppose that's a non-indexed item which should have been indexed?

The other thing I wanted to ask is if there's a way to search into communities, if that's even a thing in Lemmy as I'm new here, and if the feature is roadmapped? I believe it's an essential feature to avoid things being asked countless times in communities. [Edit: there's Filter by community]

Thanks for your work and keep it up!
