  • What's the alternative though? Let everyone be above the law? Because, that just sounds like a recipe for more trouble.

  • They just wanted cheaper eggs.

  • Currently, ICE outnumbers Minneapolis police by over 2 to 1.

  • Our ancestors used to say the same shit about berries and game. The environment has just shifted. Our ancestors had to get better at hunting and/or gathering or they died out. Modern humans are just in a media environment shift and need to adapt. The days of blockbuster having curated media ready to go on the shelf is over. Good media has been almost hunted to extinction the temperatures are rising and the coasts where new ideas went to grow are flooding.

Don't worry friend there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel. Just like slavery in this country created the fertile suffering that helped bring forth great music so too shall the terrible age of Trump create a people so damaged and broken they will surely go on to make great works of art.

  • You could look at it that way. Broad strokes yes. The thing is it is probably a bluff.

The problem is the US dollar is the world reserve currency and the Euro Dollar market is massive. So even if a country doesn't transact directly with the US it still is using dollars for transactions. The US is also the only world super power with a military to back that up.

When Russia started up in Ukraine again the Biden administration booted them from the settlement system and froze their funds in western institutions. Seeing that happen China and Russia are heading up a new BRICS settlement system. That is a direct threat to US interests in remaining the reserve currency.

The US response to this is to go after some of those countries joining BRICS with revolutions and stuff. And at home to pass the Genius Act. An attempt to keep US Treasuries relevant by requiring crypto stable coins to hold them as collateral.

What I think is happening is the US is going after all the other transactions for the people in countries with less stable currencies. Brent Johnson the Dollar Milkshake theory guy has his Orlando Investor conference talk on this theory up for free on youtube if you are interested.

TLDR: Some nations aren't happy with the US and how it is acting and are threatening to de-dollarize. Except the US Navy is why much of the trade happens.

  • That they would sell or let their holding of US bonds expire and take the principal.

  • No way his supporters stick with him after this. This is too big for them to just ignore. I mean these are our fellow Americans. How could they support a lying criminal president?

  • When they mess with too many of the elites. I don't think common everyday people are going to do much resisting. I mean some might, but not a large enough group to make much of a difference. So if the Trump admin really fucks up corporate America like in a way that can't be just paid off then we'd see some actual opposition.

I guess maybe the people could vote the GOP out in 2026, but the masses are so thoroughly divided the chances of that happening are slim. Or if Trump and his regime end up blundering so badly that lots of people actually start starving also super slim chance.

  • Um, SLC Punk!

  • It has been a while and someone else can go look up the interview but Warren Buffet put this type of argument to rest decades ago. Never in any of his calculations was he concerned about the tax implications of his investments. The tax shit comes later.

People are not passing on investments because the taxes will be too much that is straight idiotic. I'm not going to take this 20% return on my investment with little to no risk because the gov't will want to tax my 20% gain? Think about it for one second.

Also the wealthy aren't going to leave New York City it has too much culture, financial wealth, and power for that to make any type of sense.

  • They aren't dead they are just on an extended vacation. Things will improve once the boomers move on and we fix the brains of the younger ones.

  • Seems pretty standard for the south. Let companies come in and wreck the land up because they've promised jobs and profits. Then the companies leave and the residents are confused what happened. So they do the only thing they know how to do, wait for the next corporate benefactors to come in and promise profits and jobs.

  • What're you saying? You don't think these billionaires need their money?!?

  • I hope they go to town on all those just following orders clowns. They are too incompetent to be trusted in any position with any power especially over another human.

  • We had a fellow who shot at the unmarked unidentified police roaming around Minneapolis during the civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. He was at a gas station if I remember and they beat the shit out of him. It took a while but he won the case and some money.

  • How is this the first I am hearing that Belgium was just open for the taking?

And isn't the deadlock not sposed to influence that like we're supposed to have money for SNAP to continue.

  • If I am hearing what you are saying it sounds like they don't see these immigrants, minorities, or non-whites as people. Like they think they are subhumans and don't deserve the same rights as humans. I hope that isn't the case.

  • No Stupid Questions @lemmy.world

If this has been asked recently just link it no need to be mean, because I am emotionally sensitive right now. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

  • Tetlock. He's got a few talks on youtube that are very interesting. As someone who called all three recent presidential elections, I almost bought his book so his talks were fairly interesting.

  • I guess it depends on which side of the boot you find yourself on. Also probably need to account for the folks totally unaware of the system for which they work. Off the top of my head I'd guess the economic top 20% are fairly happy with the empire continuing and toss in a large chunk of Trump supporters something like 30% of our population. Obviously there is overlap between these two groups, but I'd guess somewhere between 30% to 40ish% would be opposed to the US empire declining further.
