  • i love the idea, but everything i know tells me that replacing one cell in a series parallel array with a fresh one is a bad idea.

over it's life, a battery's capacity and internal resistance change, so it's not only important to match batteries in a pack by exact type, but also condition. otherwise, the cells won't charge / discharge evenly, leading to overdischarge / overcharge, or, if managed by the bms, drastically reduced performance (basically all cells are limited to the worst one's performance).

still, the concept is fantastic, so i hope they found a way to work around this issue!

  • It is also concerning that you have not apologized to the company, and in fact you have shown no remorse for the effect that your actions have had and will have.

the fucking audacity. i mean, we all knew how it would end, but talk about 5d reverse psychology mindgames

Bambu Lab's reply to my complaint

I thought this may be interesting for some of you. I filed a ticket with BBL to let them know I disapprove of the coming firmware auth changes. Today I finally got a reply, but it's just a lame ass copypasta, basically retelling what the update on their blog already stated, ie. "there will be developer mode and people are lying about the implications" (paraphrased tl;dr)

    Dear Customer,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the recent Firmware Authorization changes. Due to the overwhelming number of requests we've received on this topic, we've created this unified response to address your concerns.

We've recently published a detailed blog post explaining the updates introduced by this firmware. We’ve made the decision to implement an optional Developer Mode feature(under an updated LAN Mode), to provide advanced users with more control and flexibility. The developer mode will be released later.

To explain: When LAN developer mode is enabled by the user, the printer will

  • "we're so 'sorry' you don't like being fucked in the ass, if you are not willing to take it nice and deep, that's your problem".

also they are blatantly lying about "actively working with developers like Orca Slicer...". Softfever knew no earlier than us exactly what was coming. See also their comment here. Or on the official GitHub issue.

  • the german tv channel ARD actually published a three-part investigation into Spotify and Eventim middle of 2023 where they spotlighted this issue as well. it's a great watch if you understand german!

    it's called Dirty Little Secrets

EDIT: here's episode two, the relevant one where they investigate what they call "ghost musicians"

  • we don't need another mail app. they should've just supported FairEmail. it's great and works flawlessly. developed by one guy who does not get enough in return. if you can, support him by buying the premium version and yourself by switching to the best android mail client. https://email.faircode.eu/

  • tbf it seems to be a common issue with search engines atm. brave also has the stupid ai response topmost, and startpage without adblock pushes in so many sponsored results that you need to scroll to get to anything else

    Hardware MFA: product reccommendations?

I am im the market for a hardware key for MFA. I want to put it on my keyring and put it in my pocket so I always have it with me. I guess it should be quite sturdy for that (no easily broken off connectors, ...) I mainly want to use it as additional factor for my Bitwarden vault. Do you have any recommendations, experiences, stories? Yubikey seems to be by far the brand most recommended. Solo is nice bc open source hard/firmware, but I care more about reliability and usability than openness I think.

    Thank you for your insights!
