  • Blocking them is an asshole move

An asshole move is designing a site that bogs down your computer so that they can try and sell you garbage while simultaneously collecting and feeding data about the sites you visit to a corporate surveillance network in order to more effectively sell you more garbage.

    1. That's a luxury that not everyone enjoys.
    2. They all use some form of spyware, if only for email.
  • I don't install anything that's not FOSS anymore. Pretty much all of it is spyware at this point, because they can monetize it, and because users don't give a fuck.

Good news is, most of the time, you don't have to.

  • Employees arent the ones paying for Teams, so why would they care? Teams could openly market itself as remote work surveillance for employers and they'd gobble that shit up.

  • or any global north country, honestly, especially in the five eyes

I dunno what that means. US doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, just like China doesn't have jurisdiction outside of China, so not a whole lot they can do to you. I have heard of Chinese kidnapping their own people who fled to the US, but I'm not sure how true that is.

all the US needs is a request to law enforcement

In the US, yes. Not even that, really.

  • Yes they do. GOS has strict security standards for hardware.

  • The EU has standards for security and banks require you to use a phone, and the banks don't give a fuck about outliers.

  • It's not. This was a partnership. Motorola has to make dedicated hardware to support it. Most OEMs are completely disinterested in anything like that.

  • They're called microcars. They're not intended for highway use.

  • The US is far, far more of a threat than China even remotely is

    If you're American*

  • When GOS first announced this several months ago, they also announced it would be a flagship chipset. Plus Motorola will be losing a lot of money by opting out of data mining. So I expect it will be expensive.

Nice to have options but I expect I'll be sticking to Pixels.

  • They can't not be lying and also be false...

  • We'll see. They will probably be expensive. And they're obviously focused on business consumers. And they're also announcing monitoring tools at the same time, which makes me think they won't be distributing devices with vanilla GOS.

  • I omitted it because it wasn't relevant, for the sake of brevity.

The Proton domain is that absolutely false part.

How do you figure? Why would anyone lie about this?
