  • Ah interesting. I would probably avoid using it that way except for a one-off alias or something.

  • I may be mistaken, but I believe the built-in email server is purely for aliases, so it's basically something like SimpleLogin or addy.io combined with Bitwarden.

  • Not sure if they've resolved this, but last I checked you couldn't reply using the aliases (or maybe that was just their cloud offering?). Everything else I've seen has been pretty cool though, so I'm really hoping they succeed.

  • Yeah, I feel like a lot of the people here going "just don't use social media then" are missing part of the point. Like, as she specifically mentioned, the misogynistic discourse happening online is also happening offline. Even if you yourself manage to avoid most online misogyny by not using social media, you'll still be exposed to it through everyone else who is and all the people watching and reading stuff like Fox. It's just kind of everywhere.

  • The biggest risk in terms of human extinction is a government allowing an AI to make unchecked military (e.g. nuclear) decisions.

  • As the other person said, that book is also full of conspiracy theories so...

  • Both the personal scandals and blackmail material links are about George H. W. Bush, not George W. Bush.

  • My point is that wasn't the original reason the EU started looking into this. They started looking into it because of all the shit the Trump admin is doing. If someone like Biden or Harris had been elected, there wouldn't be this big push to swap off US tech. Economic growth is just a possible side benefit.

  • Seems like a roaring endorsement to me.

According to Google, the idea of replacing current tools with open-source programs would not contribute to economic growth.

I like how Google just talks about economic growth when the main reason to swap off US tech is to not be entirely beholden to an untrustworthy govt for European digital infrastructure. Kind of shows how fucked up the mentality of Google execs is that all they can think about is money.

  • Anna Paulina Luna is a (usually nuts, as is now standard) Republican, so it's def about something other than Trump.

Her tweet is from like Feb 13th apparently. Maybe she was referring to Ghislaine Maxwell wanting clemency in exchange for providing info? Not really sure tbh.

  • There's a lot of sudo alternatives.

  • Apparently the reason they stopped using systemd is recent versions don't fully support split /usr. I have no idea if that's actually true though.

  • He's a democrat (looked it up to make sure), so I'm pretty sure that was intentional.

  • He said South Korea could “import young unmarried women” from places like Sri Lanka or Vietnam to be married off to “young men in rural areas".

And they wonder why women don't want to have kids.

  • I knew it was from TempleOS, didn't realize it was actually a scripting language though.

  • What is the Main; at the end? Is this like a scripting language where having something like main() is just an idiom? Also is printf() like built-in or something?

  • I don't see any future for C++ and forcing such ugly language in the kernel might lead to problems.

Lembot_0006 is to blame here more than C++. Zig/D/Hare/whatever would be much more straightforward and welcomed by the kernel community update from C. And Lembot_0006 is afraid of Rust.

C++ will kill Linux if it persists there long enough .

  • Even without considering LLMs, I don't think this is a good idea since it will make it very difficult to know for sure what the kernel will do in certain situations.

  • Ain't no way I'm taking my shoes off in the office unless I know for a fact that the floor is clean AF.
