Look, is everyone who drives a Tesla a fascist?

No.

(They’re more than likely neoliberal and probably more ashamed than anything else right now.)

Similarly, is everyone who drives a Cybertruck a fascist?

You bet your sweet ass, they are.

  • @[email protected] Not sure the sculpting analogy holds. Michelangelo didn’t start with Peter and remove the bits he didn’t like to arrive at David; he started with a block of marble.

(And his chisel didn’t require new fossil fuel power plants and data centres that contaminate fresh water at a time when humanity faces an existential threat of its own making to its own habitat.)

Coding is like taking a lump of clay and slowly working it into the thing you want it to become. It is this process, and your intimacy with the medium and the materials you’re shaping, that teaches you about what you’re making – its qualities, tolerances, and limits – as you make it. You know the least about what you’re making the moment before you actually start making it. That’s when you think you know what you want to make. The process, which is an iterative one, is what leads you towards understanidng what you actually want to make, whether you were aware of it or not at the beginning. Design is not merely about solving problems; it’s about discovering what the right problem to solve is and then solving it. Too often we fail not because we didn’t solve a problem well but because we solved the wrong problem.

When you skip the process of creation you trade the thing you could have learned to make for the simulacrum of the thing you thought you wanted to make. Being handed a baked an

Just cancelled our Streamyard subscription and deleted our account.

The asshats automatically switched us to a plan that was 2× the price (from ~$44 to ~$88) with a single email’s notice and no authorisation on our part and when there was a new plan that almost exactly matched our current one with almost exactly the same features.

By the time I clocked on, they’d already charged us for several months so I wrote to them explaining that what they did was wrong and asking them to refund us the difference in the plan costs and place us on the plan that was almost the carbon copy of the one we were originally on.

They refused. And admitted no wrongdoing.

Finally, they offered a one month refund.

So I accepted. And now that it’s safely in our account, I just cancelled our subscription and deleted the account. I have a very fucking short fuse for asshole unethical American startups thinking they’re so bloody smart for fucking you over.

Anyway, beware of Streamyard. Not sure if they’ll p

Or, as their head of public policy once told me: “Why are you being so hard on us? We’re just another Silicon Valley tech company.”

  • @[email protected] Fair enough. Still not reason for it to be removed and for them to be censored if that’s what happened. Still waiting to hear from someone at mastodon.social to know what happened.

  • @froge Well, before jumping to conclusions, I’d like to know if the person running it simply chose to delete the account or whether it was removed by mastodon.social. Hence my question.

Do any moderators at @Mastodon have some insight to share? Would be appreciated.

  • @[email protected] Indeed.

However, is there a huge amount of difference between mastodon.social – if they did, of course – removing an account on their server or blocking my instance of one? In both, they cut off access to me for their couple of million active users.

So digital sovereignty matters but so does not having such massive power differentials or you might just end up very sovereignly talking to yourself :)

If you use Vial (https://get.vial.today) to configure your keyboard on macOS and you need to map a key to backtick/tilde, the backtick/tidle key won’t work (you’ll get the section/plus-minus key).

  • Right, realised why this was happening…

Had the virtual keyboard type set to ISO in Karabiner Elements while the external keyboard I have attached is ANSI.

You don’t need the above mapping if you set it correctly :)

Looks like Google is holding up our ability to use it in production.

  • @DodoTheDev @Lokjo @librewolf @Vivaldi Yeah, although I just read that they’re using the manipulative “Maybe later” pattern in at least one of their dialogs so that would be a good thing to fix for the future (I’m using Vivaldi too as my default browser.)

The opposite of “Yes” is “No”, not “Maybe later.”

  • @Bro666 @[email protected] @[email protected] Which would make perfect sense if I had said “Plasma forces you to use Firefox.” Would you like any other straw men to rile against?
