2600 and 7800 here!
Same here. I don't want shit pushed on me. I love the freedom of Linux.
Boondocks vibes
Thats what I've been doing...I say yes do it! We need more humanity nowadays too, when everything's bots.

Ya know what I like about Linux-it makes computing FUN
Just a useless post but... I wanted to state, how much more fun and involved it is computing with Linux. I'm a very basic user - but still, learning more and more about this OS and how it operates, and most importantly, how awesome FOSS is, is very enjoyable. I feel like I can do anything, if I have the initiative to learn it. My dream is to be able to program something useful, and contribute to the FOSS community someday.
I hope more people can feel this same feeling, that using this OS is much more the feel of computing as it's supposed to be, at least to me!
Seconded Kiwix! Or, start learning some programming- I listen to Python programming videos while I'm doing boring stuff to absorb information...and it's relaxing ha
They use minor slurs against minorities and are obsessed with fox news....and now are fully brainwashed :(
This was always the goal. Serfdom in a different package.
Very true
The fact that people have any thought that this guy is smart or a good person makes me hate humanity.
Trying to explain this to people I know is nearly impossible. They always think "but when I'm rich I want all the money and no regulation!" Well guess what you work at Walmart and will never be rich so I guess let yourself get endlessly exploited then. There is no ethical billionaire. Maybe not even millionaire tbh.
The sad part is how many otherwise nice people it's turned into total hateful monsters, and there's no way they'll be brought back. We will be a full on dictatorship soon and they don't care as long as the gays and Trans are gone.
Ah yes I tried bazzite too and it wouldn't even boot for me so I went mint since I had it years ago. It can be annoying if you don't have the time or don't enjoy troubleshooting. I'm unsure why freecad is running poor. Nvidia card?
That's so cool. I do a lot with audio tape (mostly 1/4" 7.5ips and 15ips), but never data tape.
And not even owning it..and they'll keep upping the price little by little, slowly sucking us dry
Using mint or ?
I'm running pop on 3 machines. One is an old Dell core 2 duo, and I'm amazed how quick it runs and never freezes (10g ram, 120gb ssd). Only issue issue have is the pop shop freezes up sometimes, even on my higher power machine. Otherwise, solid.
Yep, don't give in to ease of streaming, that's how they win, and take it all from you. Everyone needs to own what they pay for.
That's me. ADD and 678 folders of digital media is not fun. I need physical. Plus, it's actually real then.
All a part of corpos plan to make it so you can never own anything ever again. Subscriptions only. Drink a verification can to skip song.
We're the same, you and I!

What have you seen that proves the dumbing down of society that AI fosters?
For me, it was when my friend told me he uses Twitter AI to tell him things to buy. My hope for humanity was already gone, but that definitely didn't help it. That, and the fact younger people don't search anymore, they go right to a chat bot.

What is your first check for games that won't launch?
Just wondering the best method here. Searching doesn't always get me the answer for every game, and I keep having this issue where I launch a game and it will load then stop without ever displaying anything (liminal core and assetto corsa are 2 examples). Running mint, all AMD. protonge, wine tricks, all of that needed stuff is installed. I run steam from terminal to try and see if I can figure out where it's crashing, but I'm not totally sure. Is there a better error dump I can access ? I've tried multiple proton versions, do I need to launch it with all 50 versions to find a working one?

Best way to donate to linux dev as a whole?
For those of us feeling generous, what are the recommended least scammy ways to truly donate to continuing linux development ? I see a few sites out there when I search but I wanted to hear it from yall.

Is there any way to bring back a section of the Internet to those of us who want it to stay in the 2003-2010 and before era?
Maybe this already exists. But couldn't one theoretically create a world within a world that is like the Net we all knew and loved before it was enshittified? I know the wayback machine exists, but I was thinking something that is still alive. IRC chats, forums, flash games (maybe not, with security concerns..), video sites that didn't suck absolute ass like Corptube, stuff like that.
If it does exist, I am sure this would be the place to find it! Or maybe is a matter of staying off of all modern corp sites. I don't know. Maybe Lemmy is this fantasy world...

Faster boot tips for linux?
What are your tips for faster boots? My system seems to hang a bit at POST until it boots into Mint. Right after post I'll get a blinking cursor for about a full minute until it boots in. All ssd, so I know it's something I must have done wrong. It's also a 14 year old processor (amd fx be 8 core, rx580), but win### booted faster on it.

With FOSS, what is to stop scammers from hiding malware or worse in their programs?
Something I've wondered. One of those "too good to be true, it probably is" type things. With all the FOSS especially for linux, installing package after package because a web search said it would fix your problem, how is it Linux isn't full of malware and such?
Id like to understand better so I can explain to others who are afraid of FOSS for those reasons. My best response is that since it's open source, people can see what it's doing and would right away notice something malicious. I wouldn't, since I'm not that into code, but others would.

Anyone else find themselves branching out on gaming since being on Linux ?
Another thing I've liked about linux. The community is amazing, and I find games I never would have heard of otherwise! What are some games you've found solely because of linux?
For me,
Luanti (voxelibre, mineclone)
Tuxcart
Horripilant

Alright, who has the best info for using racing wheels on linux?
A big reason I've been holding off a total switch is the support for wheels and force feedback in linux. I currently have mint installed, and between trying to get assetto corsa with content manager working, and getting the wheel calibrated, it's a struggle. I have a Driving Force GT. I can see the wheel and inputs in the joystick menu, but the force feedback and degrees of turn are all messed up. There's some resources online but I thought maybe someone here has direct experience. Any assistance appreciated. I'd love to kick windows to the curb entirely !
Does running the driver in wine work, or will that not work at all with external devices? The driver itself is buggy as I recall having to do registry edits in windows to make it work a few years ago.

Could I theoretically keep gaming on windows 10, while doing any other work (banking etc) on linux?
Maybe a dumb question, the biggest reason I can't fully move is i do enjoy VR and sim racing, both of which I've seen have limited linux support still, and though I enjoy figuring things out and fixing stuff, I don't want to always be tinkering instead of just racing/gaming.
Would it be possible or safe to keep gaming on win 10 until it's totally not supported, but not using it for any shopping etc where sensitive info is being transferred ?
I did just order a 2 tb drive to put linux mint on, to give gaming on linux another try. I haven't had a linux install for a few years now and kind of miss it. But i do wonder if I'll need to reinstall all my games again or can just access them off the existing hard drives (I know, NTFS formatted wont be optimum for linux).
If I'm in the wrong spot to ask, please inform.
