While that's largely true, it also oversimplifies the realities of the conflict.
Without American aid the Russians wouldn't have been able to repel the Germans nearly as effective as they did (if at all), and without D-day splitting the war into two fronts, Russian losses on the way to Berlin would've been significantly higher.
That all said, Trump's statement is obviously horseshit and a complete disservice to the rest of all the allied forces.
We're quite jealous of your voting system here in upside-down Australia. We just had another "vote strategic" moment that resulted in all of the minor parties losing influence just to keep the conservatives out of power. Trudeau's biggest lasting failure will be his inability to actually pass vote reform like he promised, and FPTP will eventually result in us graduating from US-light to full on US-two-party-ism.
I don't disagree with you on MacDonald's track record. But in terms of significance to the country it's hard to deny his influence. The country wouldn't look anywhere like it does today, for example.
But sure, my point remains the same: If Carney actually passes voting reform it would propel him to one of the most significant PMs in the entire country's history.
I know there's a lot of folks you could list there that did great things for our country, but in my personal opinion changing how we elect our representatives is so fundamental to the functioning of the country not even universal health care compares.
Not saying I'd trade PR for healthcare though, in case someone were to propose that Faustian deal.
If he actually gets rid of FPTP Mark would, in my opinion, go down in history as the most significant PM since John A. Macdonald.
And how, pray tell, is a "real" firearm going to help defend against the most technologically advanced army in the world, who can take you out from half a planet away without you ever seeing anyone until you are ginsu-bladed in half (reference: https://www.pcmag.com/news/us-used-drone-carrying-knife-missile-to-kill-al-qaeda-chief)?
We don't need more firearms in personal hands when it comes to our national defence, we need alliances, a better standing army, and probably some form of nuclear deterrence. Thinking you'll make any meaningful difference with your personal firearm and a couple of hours on the gun range is the exact same magical thinking 2FA nuts keep using while the US government takes their rights and freedoms away.
While I agree with your main point (which to me sounds like "don't let your cats outside as they're an invasive species and will do serious damage to the local ecosystem"), suggesting to kill them on sight is a bit harsh and won't make you many allies.
We have much more humane options to capture, return, and if needed rehouse cats. Remember that these objectively invasive animals are also people's companions, and that some folks simply don't know better than the old belief that "cats should roam".

Yeah yeah, I blame autocorrect.

If your machine has a TPM chip, you can bypass the other requirements to upgrade to 11 with a simple registry edit. Not sure if that's an option for you, but it saved parents' older Surface device from the landfill.
If Bethesda handles SkyWind the same as SkyBlivion I am actually quite stoked to play a UE5 version of Morrowind....
Actual Microsoft rollout practices 🤣
"I have concepts of a plan..."
Yeah, I can definitely see how this opens the door to abuse if leveraged for evil purposes. It's the problem with all these "think of the children" laws.
I do believe however that there's a middle point somewhere between "no system in place at all" and eugenics.
Taking kids away from their parents through CPS should be a last resort on a long path that starts with mandatory education on how to raise your kids using pedagogically approved methods.
Of course that also requires a system of support services and funding for various social programs, so this will probably go nowhere in today's political landscape.
Articles like these price why this country needs the CBC. Keeping politicians honest while providing fair and balanced reporting is an indispensable task needed to keep the populace informed and democracy working as intended.
Glad they are. Back over on Reddit this opinion nearly got me banned, which I think is pretty wild in hindsight.
...and nothing will change, because the administration holds itself above and beyond the reach of the law and the judiciary.
I'm going to probably rustle some jimmies saying this, but it continues to baffle me how we're okay as a society to put up a multitude of barriers to adoption in order to protect the child, but we're totally fine with anyone conceiving without any sort of mandatory education on how to care for a child and some process in place to flag potential unfit parents for review/etc.
I was indeed gonna remark that people seem to have forgotten who made attacking science and scientists that don't fit the party narrative acceptable again in the first place...this is a page Trump took out of Harper's playbook, not the other way around.
If only Trump's core supporting demographic were educated enough to both get the reference and the joke...
Flavor-aid actually, but in this case who cares so long as the solution is the same.

WMR VR headsets on Linux
Reading up on some of the more recent posts regarding VR on Linux, I'm wondering if anyone can give a quick rundown of the actual state of VR gaming on Linux for users of WMR headsets like the HP Reverb G2.
Seeing as Microsoft is about to nuke that entire ecosystem later this year, it would be great if there's a way for people that invested in these headsets to continue using them on Linux, instead of turning a whole slew of devices into fresh e-waste.
Thanks!

Name the song

[24 hour hint] Since this is a pretty difficult one, here's a big hint: The band is named after a poem by John Milton.

Caught somewhere in time by Iron Maiden

As it's been 24 hours, here's a hint: The clock and what it represents is extremely relevant to the topic of this song.
[Update] Good guesses everyone. The link with Meatloaf is that he and Iron Maiden have a song that shares the same title (Heaven can wait), and the link with The Hu is that Iron Maiden will be touring the US this year with The Hu as support.
