  • Arch, btw

It was the distro that my friend uses all the time, and I've had to use his laptop on occasion so I'm somewhat familiar with the distro, enough so that I've installed it on persistent USBs before and already chosen it as my next OS after Windows (I would switch now, but I rode Windows 7 till the end date, so I figured I'd ride out 10 until the final day this October)

Also! Gender fluid hello!! It made me so insanely happy to see that flag in the Linux terminal, I feel so seen!! It feels like trans girls hog all the Linux spotlight this side of the fediverse, I'm happy for them! But I still don't feel like I have a proper community where I belong, especially since I stay off of all other mainstream social media >.<

So seeing another enby, another gender fluid especially, for the literal first time since I made my lemmy account just makes me so ecstatic!! We're so rare x3

Anyways, thank u for existing and simply posting this, seeing another makes me feel seen and I can't really express enough how unreasonably happy something so small just made me c:

Thank you! And I should sleep so good night also lol

  • Honestly moving to clangd has got to be the single best thing I've done in C++, it's cross platform and I've found it to be significantly faster, more reliable, and more featureful than Microsoft's C++ plugin by a long shot

  • If you want to do any loop and sample work FOSS style, then I'd highly highly recommend Bespoke Synth, easily the best FOSS modular DAW out there

It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you're over it then it's a pleasure to use and easily the best open source DAW I've used so far (and I've tried alot)

Biggest thing it has over LMMS: VST3 support, so you can actually use modern synth plugins like Surge XT, or dynamic EQ plugins like ZL Equalizer, or lo-fi plugins like CHOW Tape and MAIM

Although, there is a FOSS workout to get VST3 working in LMMS using KV Element, which you can load as a VST2 that itself can run VST3's.

I use to use that before Bespoke but it was very much a workaround, and I had this infuriating annoyance where KV Element would just send pitch-wheel signals to everything and detune my synths without me knowing, and I could not find any reason or fix, so I just stopped using LMMS in favor of Bespoke

    Hope this helped!!!

  • Um, actually, the tweet clearly says "Florida State University" not "Tesla Cybertruck" so no this wasn't actually an act of terrorism, it was just a peaceful protest instead

  • Voyager @lemmy.world

Could Voyager store view history locally?

I was reading a long comment on a post, but then tabbed out for a minute, only to tab back into Voyager and see it reload, and there isn't any way that I know to go back to that post. This has happens numerous times but usually I can just scroll to the post either in my feed or in my upvotes (assuming I upvoted the thing first)

This time however I just can't and it makes me frustrated

Is there any way to see my view history on this app, and if not are there any plans to implement it, and if not still what apps should I use instead that either have this view history feature, sorts my upvoted by order that i upvoted, or just refrains from reloading and dumping my position with no recourse?

    Thank you

  • Very much same

I feel like this is probably the biggest problem with mastodon after the on-boarding. Not only does someone actually need to understand instances and put in more effort to sign up, when they do there's like absolutely no good way to find new stuff, it's all just basically random

I understand the "no algorithm" stance on things but jesus would it be too much to let me sort by top of the day? I want to see what people are talking about, what's going on, not just what ever happened to be posted in the latest minute.

This is a problem I have with a bunch of other fediverse app (Pixelfed & Loops primarily) and it seriously bothers me that there isn't any real option to sort anything except reverse chronologically, and the ability to do so is the only reason I keep coming back to Lemmy over all of the rest of fediverse fr

  • VSCode cuz I couldn't find a good open source alternative written in c++ or rust that isn't just a terminal text editor that needs a trillion plugins/configs to run (I would have tried zed if they ever made a version for windows, seems like the most promising ide to vsc)

  • joke rule

  • What if you let me cry into your arms (ironically ofc) and you comforted me through tough times (as a joke) and told me that you were proud of me and that you loved me deeply (for the lolz)

    Damn. 😔

  • This is exactly why I just could not get into mastodon, and probably Twitter-likes in general

There's no way, atleast at the time, to sort by top of the day. No way to see what was trending across the larger fediverse, no real way to find new and interesting things every hour on the hour

Lemmy is thankfully significantly better with this, and it's honestly become my go-to social app now
