Funny enough, I had similar plans for how the story ends ultimately.

My novel is going to be more quick to expose itself as commie propaganda. It's a magic community college where the MC struggles to afford tuition. Made with an attempt to take any market share/relevance/attention away from TERFdemort. Basically, when JK Rowling does some shit OR the Harry Potter franchise is pinged I want to go market myself as an alternative, make a couple bucks to spend on dinner, and donate half of it to a trans charity. Here are the changes I've made since my first full manuscript:

1. the first exam is a clear piece of propaganda that causes the character to become curious about history
2. the history in question is "the war of aggressive intervention" in which soldiers from every other continent converged to stop them from using chattel slavery
3. One of the MCs team members is the adoptive son of an anarchist commune that was built in the wake of the war to chase down a terrorist cell of ex slave owners
4. The community college itself was an effort by a foreign power to unshittify the capitalist continent by making it so that magic is affordable and available even for those who aren't of means
5. the farm that the MC flees from to go to magic college is the product of a father who was relentlessly exploited by the a program that takes advantage of farmers in the wake of poor conditions.
