  • Ok, so this post was reported as non-gaming.

I will admit it's not exactly gaming related, so I will agree to that point, however I believe its important enough to leave up.

Not like anyone cares, but I don't always go by reports, I also look at votes, and replies. Seems like most of the folks are interested in this, so unless I get major pushback, I'm gonna leave it up. I don't think I've ever said what or why I remove or leave up a post but today I feel the need to let you know the reason. And to anyone who did report, dont take this comment as a hint or feel like its a personal attack. Y'all keep reporting when you feel like it, I wouldn't have even looked at this post without the report, so it at least got eyes on it. I like to leave the community to itself, its a great community and I rarely get reports. For one of the biggest/bigger communities on lemmy.ca we get very little reports.

Pic of me and my bird in the barn...just because

  • needing food. that would free up a lot of time and money, no input = no output. no dishes, no stove or fridge, no need for a dishwasher, then on the other end, no need for TP, or even a toilet!

  • holy shit

in one single comment you just let me know how old I really am...damn

  • Sorry folks

  • I cant wait, 5 years I've been waiting. Burned through my savings a long time ago, sold everything but my rainbow chicken. It's going to be sooo nice to be working and making money again!

    Well...its working!

Cant seem to get my sound card to work with 5.1

Think i found a website where i can get my 5760x1080 display back.

Sadly the games on steam are limited! Not sure about epic and gog games yet tho.

Still gotta find software to run my fans, or at least a monitor. Need to find something for the little 3.5" display.

    But its up and running!

    Main/Gaming PC switch over

First off, I have had a few different linux distro's over the years but I hardly know whats going on. Had a headless server, where again, I barely got it up and running.

Right now all but my main PC are running mint and I'm almost there on biting the bullet on moving my main to mint but I'm just not sure if it'll run everything, along with triple monitor setup. I was thinking of temple OS, but mint would probably be my choice.

    Thoughts or suggestions?

  • While I cant rule it out with chat GPT and AI the way it is today, I remember some of the posts they have made in other communities I'm in and I'm leaning to human. I recognize the writing style on multiple accounts, its unique for sure

  • ok, being honest here.

i remember you from a while back (old posts) and being straight up, you do seem kinda young and childlike. I do not know how old you really are, but if i was guessing, 14-16.

  • The obvious story

  • It's a bad one. Stupid even

  • well, to be fair, we can see the same amount of stuff in every direction without an edge. and at the rate of expansion, we could never reach the 'edge' we can currently see. so we kinda are at the centre of the universe

  • mine is the blue and gold macaw

  • without people on the planet to remember those who lived, the memory dies

  • Splat

  • Try explaining that one after death.

    "How'd you die? I got eaten by a T-Rex!"

"I, um well, I...I was going for a walk to find food and I know following this big guy who never eats the lower stuff is great, he cant reach it and the bugs that fall off the trees hes eating are great! As I was munching on a fleeing bug, the big guy burps and I looked up to see him puke. No matter how fast I tried to scurry away the goo was too much and it squished me flat"

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, hopefully you have better luck on this side"

  • im in my 40s and feel the same as you. things like fast food dont hold the same appeal, just nostalgia wishing for the 'old taste'

    USA President term limits

im 100% canadian, I dont live in the US and wondering about your system.

so as i understand your political system, a president can only hold office 2 terms. in Trumps case, he served once already, does that mean he can only serve one more, or is the clock reset and he gets a shot at 8 years?

  • im willing to marry anyone from the usa so they get in, for a small fee of course 🤑

  • as a ~40 year old Canadian looking from the outside at the US election

this one was crazy for sure but the last couple have been kinda out there to say the least. before the internet we Canadians always knew when it coming, but it was never covered in a 24h news cycle like now. other than daily newspaper (that was a physical unit of paper that was like social media, where we could not really choose who to follow other than politically left or right and only updated every 24h) we'd get news at 6-7pm and 11pm. then the noon news showed up. while there have always been issues between right and left, there had never been violence on the scale we see now. like Reagan getting shot, happened just after i was born, so not like it was all sunshine and rainbows but nothing like the scale that's seen now.

this could be from the mass news reporting and social media, or people have just gone off the rails. I'm guessing option 2.

  • If these asshats were vacuuming stuff up instead of just blowing over to the next yard, I’d be a little less annoyed.

when i was not so poor and still owned a lawn care business, i actually had a lawn and leaf vacuum attached to trailers. they work great, blow the leaves into a pile, and suck them up. had smaller versions that were the width of a lawn mower-ish for where it was not feasible to blow. the smaller ones didnt work that well with leaves but great in the spring after spring clean up.

  • Eren and Erin are scum, dirty names that should be scrubbed from the history books, not the people, just the name.

Right along with Arron and Aron, they are also fake names and should be deleted.

Full disclosure, my name might be Aaron

The difference between sport bikes and cruisers

I'm in my 40s and just got my first sport bike, been riding dirt bikes before I was 10 and street bikes by 14. I've always liked cruisers and choppers, never had a crotch rocket style.

After a month of having a cbr600f2, I'm convince there is a correlation with how kids slept as as babies and what bikes they like to ride (if at all)

Babies who slept on their backs better, like cruisers, babies who preferred to sleep on their bellies, like sport bikes!

    Ultrawide - Superwide

Come across a few different aspect ratios, however 5760x1080 seems to be for rare idiots like me with 3-27" curved. My current setup is not ideal, but modding my desk today so im not so close.

Overkill? Oh yeah, but I do enjoy it!

    What am I doing wrong?

I'm kinda new to linux, however I seem to remember running a headless ububtu server years back. Also remember it took a long time to setup being my first headless server.

So, to my current issues. I just installed mint on an old pc and just want to use it to run my security cams, store the files, and host my nas. Took me over 6 hours to get the raid setup properly, so much differing information on 'how to' for noobs like myself, but managed to get it working and moving files over to raid file now.

Coming from mostly windows crap most of my life, its confusing where and how the raid is setup, and honestly I'm still not convinced I did it right, but everything I check says it is, and I'm sure it knows better than I do.

Ok, now the issue, how in the ever lovin shit can I just share that stupid folder/disk to my network. 90% of the options are greyed out while looking at the properties tab, and need sudo access to change it, so whats the point in having the gui? Am I just dumb and s

Can you take the lint from your dryer and make clothing?

I know its not quite that simple, I'd have to make thread first, and after I get enough, make clothing out of it. Could this actually be done? I can sew, but never made my own clothing nor have I ever made thread, so I don't know if it could actually be done or not. I'm 100% sure the time and effort would not be worth it, or money spent on stuff to produce the thread, etc. But looking at my lint garbage pale made me wonder.

How do empty nesters deal with over cooking?

So, kids are gone, ex and I are no longer together (hence ex i guess lol) and I still find I over cook, I try to use less but it seems if I cook much more than a box of macaroni its too much. Sure I save leftovers, but one can only eat so much leftovers.

How have you dealt with over cooking? Or maybe I'm the only one?

One of the few places in Canada I have not visited yet.

I've been through most of Canada, missing a few small places on the east coast. I have been in the NWT way back in the 80s/90s but missed Yukon and Nunavut. Hopefully one day I can make it up there.

I have to admit, I joined hoping to see some people posting pictures in the future!
