  • I don't think it's impossible to make the situation better. I think he's dismantling the rule of law. For the entirety of the post industrial revolution era, we've been governed by words written down, but that was not the case of most of history. Before that, might governed. If you could do something and nobody could physically stop you, then you got your was. Trump is trying to take us back to that.

  • I do think anyone on Lemmy is probably smarter than anyone on Reddit. I was browsing a conservative sub today and while they were very few comments, most of them disagreed with the general direction of the Trump administration.

  • It's kinda the same way that the Trump administration is handling it's business. If you ignore the law and you have enough firepower to enforce your viewpoint, then the laws are up to negotiation. If thousands of people go on rent strike, they can't evict all those people. There aren't enough cops to throw all these people out in the street.

  • After watching Bernie have a Palestine flag removed at one of his rallies, I'm less interested in being herded back to one of the controlled opposition parties.

Edit: I accept your down votes, but Palestine is a flashpoint issue. Capitalism has called for the destruction of a people. This has to be the line we draw. Bernie cannot expect to fight oligarchy while bowing down to Zionism. They are intrinsically linked struggles. Zionism is supported by the US because it positions Israel as a key outpost in one of the most oil rich regions in the world. The genocide is linked to the wars for oil. The constant fight for oil is a result of capitalism. You cannot be a socialist and support Israel. It is antithetical to the values of socialism.

  • Lol fascism got into power because there is a revolutionary mood in the air and the capitalists have spent a century banning the idea of socialism at every turn. I feel very confident that socialism would have become popular if there wasn't an active effort to stymie it's adoption by the masses.

So yes the marketplace of ideas is rigged.

  • Banning books, like banning movies, is a great way to admit publicly that your position is so weak you can't tolerate any dissent. Let the power of your ideals stand on their own.

Edit: ok I'm going to leave this up here because I'm a masochist, but ok I get it. I'm with you guys. Boycott Gal Godot. Ban is functionally a boycott. In the US, this movie would never get banned, but I would 100% boycott it. I didn't fully think this through and I agree with most of you guys.

  • I find that hard to believe. Universal healthcare is the most popular policy proposal in the US for the voters. 60+% of Americans support it.

Also, there has been numerous studies done in the last 15 years that show that voting doesn't get popular policies passed. If the rich want something, it is more likely to get passed whereas if the average voters want something, it is unlikely to get passed.

  • leftist infighting

  • Yeah that's the biggest problem is I can't guarantee the revolution would be leftist or that the emerging system would be better than our current system. We need to build a leadership system now.
