OcapPub: On Addressing the Shortcomings of the Fediverse

Found this article while scrolling the Internet. I feel it is pretty applicable to my short experience on the Fediverse so far, since the decentralizaiton aspect of it is offset by the fact that user data is tied heavily to the server you register to, and that the server can dictate what other content you see. OcapPub is an attempt to remedy this issue, while also providing powerufl new tools for moderation and social trust that can protect people

Some Plans Moving Forward

Heya, nice to see you all!

As you know, I'm one of the moderators of the server, and I'll make a possibly futile plea to keep community open in some shape or form. It depends on what is meant by pruning heh ^^. Err, i guess some thoughts on the matter. We don't post here pretty often, so I understand wanting to close the community down. But due to the deteriorating conditions in the outside world plus the general recent interest in organizing, I feel it is important to preserve the information presented in some fashion. So before the community is closed and the content deleted, is it possible to move it over to the Solarpunk Wiki so it can remain there in perpetuity, and more information can be worked on? Hopefully in the future I can get a SLRPNK lemmy account in order to contribute to it more, and maybe possible updates in the general instance can keep the wiki alive.

Sincerely, Mod TerryTPlatypus

This is documentation on a research team's attempts to make DIY integrated circuits. It's still in the very early stages, but I'm putting this here just in case they make progress.

  • Honestly, this was a very cool experience. Being able to log in with a Lemmy account on the open Fediverse showed me a taste of what is possible. Now if we can figure out how to migrate accounts to different instances I'd honestly love that so much.

I was thinking a lot about how design patterns are useful solutions to certain classes of problems. I went spelunking online and found this from a Wikipedia page lol. Hope it proves helpful for community activists!

Dang, it's been a while lol. Found a nice Solarpunk DIY Repository

    Soooooooooo

    I'm baaaaack

    Lol

Here are some resources I managed to find on Telegram

    Solarpunk DIY Repository: https://t.me/solarpunkrepository

This is a list of pdfs about a lot of useful community organizing things. It ranges from farming to engineering to community organizing, food preservation, socoology and social services, etc.

Hope you all find it useful!

  • Wow, I just looked at this page, and it seems to be a pretty straightforward guide to how the Inuit language works! This was an interesting find to come across. Thanks for sharing this with us, and be sure to post more!

  • I disagree, although I can definitely see where you are coming from. Places like Alabama, Florida, and Mississippi are still dealing with outright racism in some areas. There was even astory I read about a town that had a white okigarchy which wouldn’t give its black resudents mayorship. The South, while seeming like it won’t change, will eventually have to. There are a lot of demographic shifts happening here that will force it to change some. Not to mention a growing labor movement, awareness of clinate change, and growing activism to address social issues that will increasingly put pressure on local and stare governments. So, yes, it will take time to correct the inertia of the status quo, but it’s possible.

I have built an AutoMod bot for my instance, lemmy.basedcount.com. The bot covers the following features:

    • Automated removal
      • of posts, based on their title, content or link
      • of comments, based on their content
      • configurable with either regular expressions or substrings
    • User whitelisting and exceptions for moderators to selectively lift some or all of the aforementioned rules for certain users.
    • Mention based pinning and locking of a post, through commands exclusively available to the mod team
    • Discord notifications for new registration applications through a webhook. [only for admins]

Naturally, the bot is completely [open source](https://github.co

Cuz if you invert the bits of of a binary number and add one you get its negative number, so your girlfried is an equal part of you

  • For me, Blender was probably my very first introduction into FOSS. I was using it because it was free, but I also liked the concept behind having a useful software the people used everyday to make cool projects like movies and animated shows. I did a project on it in. What really got me down the rabbithole was Debian. I had come across it in computer class, and I really liked the interface. i did more research and came to love Debian for being a stable distro run by the community. From thereit's history.

  • I guess maybe the sobering part of this read was the fact that maybe revolution will take a lot longer than we thought...so maybe our focus should be on building alternate community institutions and forming connections instead of focusing on big events like protests.

  • I agree with this post you made. If the best we can do is vote into office a fairly old, out-of-tuoch president who has done a moderately decent job of running the United States, then it's a lose-lose situation for everyone. Politics especially in the United States has become too boring and safe. We need to take a risk on Cornell West and spice the game up a bit. Else we'll repeat the same mistakes we've been making for the past 50 years.

Edit; pls forgive my passion posting, whoops. Point is we need a shake up cuz stuff is going down the drain a little

The Appropriation of "Rich Men North of Richmond": It's Happened Before

The Appropriation of "Rich Men North of Richmond"

I heard on the radio that a new viral song has shot its way to the top of the charts, called "Rich Men in Richmond", and it has already soarked a bunch of controversy, being referenced at the Republican debate last night as an "anthem of sorts", an anthem which ironically ridiculed the candidates on the stage, as the singer Oliver Anthony to point out in a public address later.

However, interestingly enough this sort of appropriation of country songs as "anthems" for the authoritarian right has happened before, with Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA". It was popular because of a similar economic cry for relief, at least until it got coopted by Reagan.
