"Red fascist" is a term used pejoratively, you know? Are you saying Trump is a Bolshevik instead?
While both are authoritarians, one of the difference between Bolshevism/communism and fascism is that the latter embraces ultraconservatism and romanticising an idyllic past, whereas communists don't. Trump and co. yearns back to some idyllic past and a return to it in some form. One of the definition of fascism is romanticising some glorious past when their people and things were "better".
Edit: added info
"Red fascist" is a term used pejoratively, you know?
Trump is the president who happens to be the leading figure of MAGA movement and Project 2025, which are unquestionably fascist movements, and seeing as how his administration deliberately ignore court rulings and thereby undermining civil liberties, which is the key characteristic of fascism.
There are scholarly consensus already. It is not controversial. Unless you are trying to muddy the water.
I usually go by Umberto Eco's points but some scholars added their own. By and large, most agree that aspects such as militarism, demonization of out-groups, belief in a strongman authority figure, and lack recognition of civil rights and liberties are key characteristics of fascism. Trump 2.0 has most if not all the characteristics of fascism. Even now, Trump refuses to comply with court orders, has police harass and grab people without lawful warrant, demonizes out-groups and threatening military action.
Well, in my opinion this will be a good platform for American progressives to run on: make taxes less complicated by getting rid of middle men.
Now, this is the trading standards that we all ask for; not "be more racist" or repeal the protection on lgbt. Christ, American fascism is the weirdest i have seen. Fascism in the past didn't even try to dictate the laws and regulations of other countries.
They know, that's why the oligarchs will prop another one.
I am of the opinion that Trump is a pazi should shit hits the fan. The billionaires-- the true rulers-- will be scot free if the American people decide to rise up.
I think it is in Project 2025 manifesto? I don't know if it is, because I can't be bothered to read their points. But I do know that Steve Bannon-- and I probably don't need to explain who he is to Trump-- wants "economic nationalism" for everyone, which is basically autarky and isolationism. Bannon did go on Europe to promote the far-right groups and his ideas almost ten years back. In any case, it is though autarky and isolationism had worked well before....
American oligarchs and the far-right also have an axe to grind with Europe. If the EU could have Brussels effect by forcing countries that trade with them to improve their standards, then Project 2025 want other countries trade with US but... lower their standards? I don't get all this. These ridiculous demands could be smoke and mirrors for something else. Or, they could genuinely be serious and accelerationists like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel, who are now whispering in Trump's ears, want the world to end and pick up the scraps for themselves. Maybe that's why they are pushing for AI. When the world ends and there are fewer people, only the robots they could rely on.
Oh my god, I just realised that Fallout is onto something!
Then you just found out about the Russian mindset. Fact of the matter is, Russians developed learned helplessness and rely on authority figures because they have gotten used to it since tsardom. They will only complain if their means for livelihoods and pensions are touched. The only times Russians had seriously challenged the authority was Imperial Russia losing World War 1 causing inflation, and Putin tried to implement pension reform. It is general rule that people only rise up if their means of livelihood become affected.
The longer the war drags on, the more it is to Russia's detriment. At some point, Russia will be in Chinese orbit, contrary to Russia trying to re-forge their own empire and influence.
You never know...
What a weird timeline that we are rooting for China on this.
If you have watched The Fallout TV series, the billionaires might be on to something. Or rather, the writers know something that we don't!
Nah, fam. The Labour Party has also become a neoliberal turncoat.
What many people do not realise, is that Nazi Germany was on the brink of another economic collapse due to Hitler's rearmament and excessive government spending. The annexation of Sudetenland and going to war gave Nazi Germany the needed funds to keep the country going for awhile. Hjalmar Schacht, the economic minister, opposed the rearmament and warned the government of impending collapse but was sidelined. We are seeing that America is trying to repeat this with tanking stock market and a federal reserve director going toe to toe with the executive.
Not to sound elitist, but most people are ill-informed from what I observed. They mean well, but they form their views and opinions from sources that aren't great. It doesn't help either that we are inundated by pleasures from all sorts of media, which distracts us from paying attention to what matters more.
Last time I checked, according to surveys, most Americans don't actually believe in trickle down economics. Some probably do, but most don't.
He knows this is BS. I wonder what he's been up to say something he knows is farcical as smoke and mirror cover. The Republicans could be trying to pass an evil legislation, like allowing to fuck couches.
Unfortunately, half of all voters legitimately want this and have been supporting people who promised to make it happen. America is a democracy and this is what the people want apparently. Trump just matched his highest ever approval rating.
If I remember the figures correctly, only 30% of eligible voters voted for Trump. The other 30% voted for Harris. Then the remaining 40% of eligible voters sat out the presidential elections (these non-votes didn't mean that they tacitly approve of Trump though). Strictly speaking, this is not what Americans actually wanted. Moreover, with the chaos of Trump tariff, his approval rating is actually the lowest among the presidents within their first one hundred days.
Running on socially progressive platform alone will not win elections.

There is more to life you know? When will liberals learn.
Edit: I changed the title so that people will understand what I am getting at. It is important to realise that economic anxiety trumps other concerns, especially in the growing wealth inequality and the overt shows of oligarchic rule. As Franklin Roosevelt said: People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

The vast majority of "Remind Me"s notifications in Reddit will never be seen by users who set them.
As everyone knows, Reddit is cannibalising itself and the longer time goes on, the users will have deleted their accounts and/or migrated to somewhere else, or they will simply forget about their accounts and log-in details.

What is the point of Trump and Vance humiliating Zelensky in front of live TV? Why could they not have done it in private as with most discussions?
I wasn't fully convinced before that Putin has Trump in his pocket, but after that stunt, I am convinced that he is under Putin's thumb. Trump and co. could have had marching orders from Putin to do exactly that. Also, this is something that Putin have done and would do, publicly humiliating someone on live TV.

Reality can be disappointing

And unfortunately lemmy.ml is getting more online traffic recently.

Are kintsugi kits all the same, or are some brands better than others?
I saw plenty of kintsugi kits available in my area (to those who do not know what kintsugi is, it is the art of fixing broken ceramic/pottery items using lacquer). However, I do not know if the quality is good for the price presented by these shops. Could anyone knowledgeable or experienced in kintsugi give some tips? I'd appreciate any help and thank you in advance.

Gameplay mechanics were also a lot better with more replayability.

Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can't count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with handicap features, and also to find Easter eggs. Speaking of Easter eggs, you'd lose a number of hours exploring every nook and cranny finding them!

Which actors you admire that you really wish not to have any scandals?
I was watching a video on Willem Dafoe on his iconic roles, and his passion to craft and life, and positivity, exudes from him immensely. In that video, I am surprised he remembers from which of his movies the lines came from. It made me love him more as an actor because he loves life and his job.
But then during the interview, I remembered too when I watched Kevin Spacey's interview before, admiring him and it turned out he is a creep. I was telling to myself about Willem Dafoe "please don't be a creep, please don't be a creep."
Willem seems like a genuinely nice guy though but I hope I don't get proven wrong!
Edit: clarified the title
