As I go to type it, boy it sounds nerdy. Doin' it anyway.

Our library has different meetup groups, DND, board game, gardening, book clubs of course, etc. They also separate kids, teens adults; might be a place to at least poke around to find out where/what other locals are doing.

Eta- if your local branch doesn't have these,check nearby one's. You often don't need a card to join these.

Soo many of us are total fucking idiots. I've known people who were proud to have never, ever left their home county (no r, smaller than the state). Education has been extremely watered down and NEVER included anything that wasn't in someway tied to or implied to involve the u.s. The teeeensy bit of world history is glossed over quickly with dry dates and facts to memorize until that class is finally over.

Higher education for the rich is for socializing and pretending you learned things other than that.For a lot of the poor, higher education isn't even possible, many of those poor folk that are rural even scoff at the idea it's needed or think it's the devil's knowledge or some shit. A local, near my current area, said "I don't believe in science". ...Like, at all??? I was part of a group that split off right then, wasn't able to question about it. ...But, like at all gravity, chemical reactions... nothing?

People are both proud of being and, think you called them something else, now hella angry, ignorant.

Now, they are more worried about being in good christian, republican (white) private schools than funding public education (California, by law, will not allow any textbook that Texas approves for their schools, in use for their public schools. That's how useless the bible belt education has become). I have now met more than a few children who don't "see the point in learning to read". Various ages. And I dont have kids or close young family around. It fucking kills me to hear that shit.

Movies, tv, YouTube, anything mindless is way more approved for discussion in mixed random social gatherings than anything historical, higher arts related, scientific, god forbid global not involving the u.s.! Instantly labeled libruhl, demoncrat, fanatical left... ugh.

Anyway, yeah, it's hard to get a world/outside view for so many over here, to the point that I think most have nooo idea a view other than a us-ian one even exists. I wish exchange programs were more of a thing and more available to 'lower class' folks. Just getting out of the fucking bubble of constant, subconscious propaganda, from everything one encounters, might really help a number of folk.

Sorry, I love learning, reading, cultures, etc., it has hurt my soul all my life to feel this country smothering learning and curiosity! Even seeking it, it has been hard to come by, especially pre-internet. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Eta: I am not sure how I came across, so I want to mention, yes! We should be smart enough to see a lot of this shit, but not only are we too dumb, we are proud of being dumb for some fucking reason. I hope I didn't seem argumentative, I've got a love of learning and it's irritating to have been raised and educated over here. Glad y'all see it, cause in general, we really don't.

One complaint. Not happy they chose Andy Dick to be in it, but at least they made him the bad guy so little kids who watched could dislike him! Watched it more than once and would again.

Raised in BFE over religious tiny small town, extremely conservative, family. Learned to read, began questioning all of it, been the opposite side of that once I had access to a library, outside sources of information and reality.

Not many of the people I grew up with there stayed conservative once becoming an adult. Sweeping generalizations used to approve mass murder is not a good idea.

Aww! We also learned of Churu because of our elder kitty. She passed last year, 20+yrs old. It ended up becoming her only meals aside from meds/supplements. It made me glad to see her still enjoying things and having energy to get around unlike when we were just using the rx food, which she didn't like.

I feel for you on this. We have a local happenings group for our area on fb. It's much more of a local racists posting and saying shitty things group. Though, since their #1 rule is no reporting, we don't care about your feelings, I like to go there when I need to vent at these asTrump.

I'm fairly certain its get a lot of fake accounts stirring up shit, so I like to find the ones that actually seem to be a real person and let off a reply with a flood of facts and reputable sources. Then I come back a few days later and view their string of posting back. It follows a usual pattern, unfounded statements,then dems are demented (and everyone not maga is a demonic dem or libruhl, which are one in the same to them), insults, memes of trump. They definitely appear to have a brainwashed/cult mindset.

It won't change anything but it gives me somewhere to let off some steam. And they can't report me for my trolling or they have to admit they got their feefees hurt by a libruhl.

I apologize that I don't bring 'good' advice with me only anecdotal! ...There also the community adhdwomen@lemmy.world, someone there may have some hepful suggestions!

I'm older, wasn't diagnosed until well into adulthood, also female. Of course, it didn't help that it was deemed medically impossible for girls to have adhd back when I was growing up, for getting proper diagnosing.

What really pushed me over the line to finally get diagnosed were the adhd communities here and elsewhere. Some of the silliest memes will sometimes have some great conversations within the comments. Posts with articles others found interesting, various answers folks have for questions asked... I have learned a lot, and get a lot out of, reading through other's experiences, and getting some feedback on my own.

For me, I retain more from an article posted and then that 'live' conversation, vs. a book that might present multiple topics, that I then start researching one of, then fall down some random rabbit hole instead of continuing the book in any sensible amount of time.

I try to do similar for our kitchen but one of mine just lays there and takes it at the 'line' between rooms. He is super food oriented so he'll put up with anything to stay in the area. BTW I also train my cats to do tricks for treats, food oriented ones are the easiest to get to cooperate with that idea.

I also like to go around and wake everyone up midday when I take lunch (I work from home). Helps make them want to sleep, at least a little, at night instead of staying up being noisy assholes.
