  • Next week is back to action though with yet another general strike on tuesday

  • One of my favorite activities for when I'm bored is to go on football hooligan Instagram pages and call them Nazi shits. You'd think that people posing with a Sieg Heil and Totenkopf flags would be okay with that but for some reason they always get defensive and argue about how they are just 'concerned right wingers' and 'hitler was socialist, you know'. Like, you are posing as a literal Nazi why are you so ashamed lol?

Anyway I took a week of vacation this week. I always forget to do that except for in the summer so I end up with lots of surplus weeks at the end of the year. But for this year I wanted to do something different so I decided to actually take my vacation days for a change. Bought two books, 'The Vegetarian' by Han Kang and 'Strange Pictures' by Uketsu. They were the two best selling options at the store so I just got them. I always have a hard time picking fiction works because I often get bored by fiction quickly so I figured 'how bad can it be?'. Looking forward to read this week as well as visit a botanical garden and go to a concert.

  • It's so charming and humble to declare people who do abortions as assassins you know

  • I know they're evil but you'd at least think they are competent to some degree

  • Yeah for real. Antwerp bars and restaurants are usually in such small spaces they by default have one bathroom for everyone. Then it suddenly is no problem.

  • To be fair the food here is poisoned as well. Just not with sugar but with insane amount of PFAS.

On this day in 1943, three Belgian resistance fighters stopped a Nazi train with prisoners, managing to saving hundreds of people from extermination

Armed with only one revolver, Youra Livchitz, Robert Maistriau and Jean Franklemon managed to stop a train from Mechelen heading to Germany. On board were many prisoners, mostly Jewish, heading to the extermination camps.

Despite being a heavily secured transport, the three still managed to cause enough trouble for 233 people to escape. 118 of them eventually survived, the rest was killed during the escape or recaptured afterwards.

Youra was eventually captured and killed by the Germana, while Jean and Robert managed to survive the war.

  • It's funny how gender neutral bath- and restrooms are such a problematic thing for some while I have been going to them at campings for forever. Everyone has the same toilet and shower building, everyone uses them together and it works just like it is.

  • Fuck Santander, Kutxabank for the win

  • Everyone except the Dems of course

  • Because don't be fooled everyone with a job now needs a gigantic safety net when things go wrong for you. The average rent in my city is 1000 euro per month, or 12k a year. Don't find a job within a year and live with a partner who makes some money? No welfare for you. Start burning your savings, motherfucker.

  • The dumbest thing is that people cheer this on from their comfy jobs. And when in a few years the poverty has risen, they will cry about it. 'How could this happen?', they'd say. 'What do you mean that I cannot get benefits?', they'd say if they lose their job.

Belgium has joined the war on the unemployed people on the side of poverty

So, as it is, in Belgium, after you have reached a certain amount of worked days, you are eligible for unemployment benefits. These benefits are unlimited in time and you can theoretically work the aformentioned days, get fired and get benefits until retirement.

Unions also play a big factor in the unemployment industry so to say as they are the ones taking care of the files for the workers to get the maximum out of their rights versus the government.

This system, while it has its flaws, makes sure that the workers of Belgium are protected from falling into poverty, giving them at least some money to get by.

The new neoliberal government will now make an end to this, citing the usual crap like lazy people taking advantage of the system, the need for budget cuts, whatever. They will limit the period of benefits to a maximum of two years. You will get one initial year if you have worked for one year in the three years prior to your request, with an option to get an additional month

  • I've worked at a lot of different places, mostly commercial companies. I have never been closer to actually workers' mutiny than I have been at my current employer, the actual union. Our board of directors are absolute dictators and the working conditions are insane. They won't listen. They act like we are lunatics for some reason. No sympathy whatsoever for us. And we have had enough.

The comraderie this creates is nice though. Gives me energy.

  • Just like 2022 everything will be much more expensive. But this time companies are not shouting 'Ukraine war' but rather 'Tariffs' and profits will increase.

  • It's almost always people from other instances, mainly mander.xyz, .world or some other lib instance.

  • This just ignores all the people that are born intersex that cannot be defined as one or the other. That alone should make this ruling bullshit.

  • I used to view euthanasia as highly progressive and stuff until I realized shit like this also comes with it. Not that I have anything against euthanasia, my grandma did it when she was battling incurable lung cancer, but still. There is a large grey area in which people who cannot afford to live also get the option. Basically eugenics.

  • I find it funny that the people in a country, who couldn't be arsed to mask up or follow basic safety rules during a global pandemic, deem themselves fit enough to fight an actual war

  • After the drought we are seeing rain finally, be it ever so slightly. But the drought and the winter did make me forget what a humid hell it can be here, in the swamp. The gym is a nightmare and it's not even summer yet.

  • Vijay Prashad will come to my city in two weeks, excited to see what he will say.

Starting up a fire within the Union to strike against the new government plans affecting my job. Let's not have them have any rest 🔥

    My anxiety re-emerged

After some months of seemingly being free of anxiety I feel like it has returned in the last few weeks, which sucks. I probably will never be free of it because it seems that I am wired to be prone to anxiety though I can now recognize that I most of the anxious feelings are just inside my head and I am not in actual danger or whatever. Yay for progress, I guess.

Working out helps. I actively rejoined the gym months ago after my running period and some dude told me: 'well you'll see the results in around 6 months', which seemed kinda long at the time. Lo and behold some six months later and here it is: I am seeing the results. Which is nice and motivating.

Gardening also helps in calming it down. I am growing a window sill herb garden and my basil is already coming up. Still waiting for the parsley, pepper, thyme and the lemon balm but they will take some more time. On my balcony I have spinach, chamomile, salad, green onion and chives coming up soon. My native flower set up is doi

    New Handmaid's Tale season

So the new season dropped and for some reason I feel like they will lib it up lol. Like, the final solution to all of it will be liberalism somehow.

Also, funny to see armed resistance being an option in the season, which will get eaten up by libs for being badass undoubtedly, all the while cOnDeMnInG hAmAs of course.

    Gentrification

So some years back I moved to the 'big' city that is Antwerp and unbeknownst to me I accidentally moved into what was an up and coming, to be gentrified area of the city. To me it was just a nice looking appartement near the city center.

The area used to be a more working class area but it was facing some upwards social mobility so to say, with lots of development going on. There were lots of artsy folks going around, there were some fun new bars and some fun old bars and the population was kind of mixed.

In the years that I lived there (I have moved to another area recently) the area changed from this mix of people into a more homogeneous crowd of upper middle class or upper class people with good incomes or parent money. Rent has skyrocketed. Non animal milk is nowhere to be found.

In Amsterdam they call these people the havermelkelite (oat milk elite), a group of people that are a part of society's elite but who also feel the need to be somewhat woke (hence the oat milk). Mind y

Experiencing societal collapse is wild yo

Like, I wake up and see my flowers. Some bees. It's a nice sunrise. I open the news and it's just one big collapse of the west. Fascism is rapidly coming up. I'm in the middle of it but I still need to go to work to keep the make believe that is our society going. War might be imminent. Whether that's with Russia or the US.

And yet here we are, collectively pretending everything is fine.

Solidarity for the workers going on a general strike in Belgium today

For today, the Christian and the Socialist Union called for a nationwide general strike to protest against the plans of the newly formed neolib government.

The plans include severe budget cuts in the public sector (health education, social security), as well as retirement funds, public transport, wages and an increase in military spending.

There have been two big strikes with rallies in Brussels yet, but this is the first general strike of the year. Picket lines throughout the country in many different sectors. Almost half of schools are closed, half of public transport is not departing, troubles in the airport and the harbors.

I'm striking myself despite working at the union and will probably visit a couple of different picket lines in the city.

Massive protests against Erdogan happening right now because of the arrest of the Istanbul mayor. Our media is pushing it relentlessly which always has me wary.

Your right don't become holy just because it turns into a law

I wanted to share this rant which was sparked because of some anti abortion thing that got lots of replies.

Many of the replies opted to have the right to abortion written into the constitution and call it a day.

Your constitution does not, in any way, actually protect you from evil intentions. Hitler wasn't stopped by laws and he killed millions of people eventually. You have to actively recognize the danger and organize to crush it.
