  • We continue to really struggle to move the ball forward. Garnacho and Dorgu looked best at it before the card. At least we showed a lot of heart in the 2nd half to hold on there.

Best news is that we’ve at least improved a lot on taking set pieces. We weren’t scoring any last season.

Thoughts on the red card? I think it was probably the right call

Looking for high fantasy book suggestions that aren't about preventing the world from ending

I really enjoy the idea of world building of high fantasy: A completely foreign place, not tied to anything like earth. I also like that the norms of current social structure can be completely turned on its head.

But what I struggle with is: a lot of popular high fantasy turns into an epic, super high stakes tale of how the world almost ended. I think that is something I've either seen too much of, or something that just takes away from other potential interesting stories that could come out of a different world.

So instead, I am looking for books where the protagonist explores/adventures through the foreign world discovering people and places within it. But there the challenges or conflicts the characters go through are personal and more relatable.

Does anyone share similar frustrations? Does anyone have any suggestions for books that I might enjoy?

Edit: Thanks everyone for your suggestions! Anyone that still comes across this tread, please feel free to add more, and hopefully

  • I have an injury so mostly confined inside, but over the weekend I went to watch the sunset over the ocean. Was beautiful watching the terns diving into the water for their evening meal, and a huge v-formation of geese heading off to roost

What did you do out in nature this past week?

Whether it was walk, hike, drive, whatever: what did you enjoy doing out in nature in this past week? What did you see? How did you feel?

  • Most of my gaming time recently has been The Finals. Of all the new shooters released over the past couple of years, I feel The Finals has been the one that tried the most to be its own thing. And I think that is why its earned its own dedicated fan base. I normally try play a couple rounds a day and keep it casual.

There is also a [email protected] community. It would be cool to see a Lemmy Finals community grow.

  • We looked so much better after the substitutes. There was some entertaining football at the end there. I also really enjoyed Kobbie at 10, but I think Bruno is also better suited to a 10 as well

Loving the new weekly event. It's so silly, and pure fun

  • Came across a brood of these chicks in a nearby National Park. They stay in parental care for up to 9 months, and only 12% of chicks per nest grow to adult due to their susceptibility to disease and poor weather.

Driver ants regularly sweep across Africa’s tropical forest floors in voracious swarms hundreds of thousands of ants strong. Some birds are known to find and follow ant swarms, and scientists have only just begun to study these interactions.

The curious case of forgeries of an avian nature

Recent research on a changing battle between parasite and host bird species. Fascinating how animals continue to adapt to the pressures on their population.
