How's your week been?
Oh haha, I didn't really care that much about the socks but paw pads? Now we're talking!
Got any recommendations for a music player?
I've paid for symfonium and love it tbh, it works really well, has great customizability and the offlining of favourited albums is so so nice. It has an internal download cache, but it can also export files to your downloads folder the way jellyfin does at the moment. My only gripe is that it's not FOSS.
How's your week been?
I went to grippy sock jail and there were no grippy socks, 3/10 wouldn't do again. One of the nurses was trans and she was the only person there who didn't make me feel judged or crowded, everything else was god awful.
Doing okay now, things aren't stable yet but I'm working hard on fixing everything.
Yeah someone said this in another thread and it's just like, completely meaningless. Just because a thing that can cause harm already exists doesn't mean we should normalise the harm, especially when a tool like this makes it more accessible and far easier for that harm to occur.
So far as I see it that point is just another negative towards AI, it means people want to do harm, taking all of the effort out is necessarily going to worsen the issue. I'm not going to comment on what should be done about Photoshop because this isn't a discussion about Photoshop.
AI image generation in particular is something I think should absolutely be banned completely. Giving the benefit of the doubt is okay, providing sources makes the poster a god imo.
Those tools are able to create non-consensual pornography, it can be used to create CP. It also steals from artists, plagiarises their work and enables some really problematic scams that I've been constantly fighting to keep out of an online safe space I maintain.
It's important to take a stand against exploitative shit, if only to show some basic solidarity with those screwed over by it.
I wish it was the avocados, literally a daily thing for me lol. I'm just genetically cursed lol
Damn, that's a great new trick
Oh wow, it's been a year and half and I'm almost up to an A lmao

I kinda live by the whole "solidarity not charity" thing. I'll chuck whatever I can spare towards mutual aid requests, and do some community building stuff so that we can all work towards meeting our needs collectively.
I'm not particularly against charities, though I know a lot of the people in my circles can give pretty extensive criticisms, for me they just don't address the issues that are most prominent and urgent; the aid requests I see are often when people are in very immediate danger and there are an enormous number of them.
You can't dismiss the legitimate harm enabled by these things by pointing to another thing that enables harm...
I think you could make reasonable points here, but you're not engaging in discussion if you just dismiss them. These are legitimately serious issues and it's worth taking them seriously especially if you actually believe the things you say and want other people to understand your point of view. I'm not going to lie, it's gross to basically just say "well people get sexually abused anyway so it's not a concern."
Capitalism enables a lot of terrible stuff, but the world doesn't immediately become sunshine and rainbows if it's gone. There's still a lot of work to be done after the fact
Eh, I don't really buy it. You've still got an issue of plagiarism (notably not the same thing as copyright), soulless slop flooding creative spaces, the fact that LLMs just kinda lie all the time and then there's the abuse enabled by image models, icky stuff and it's absolutely not driven by capitalism.
Neural networks have a place in many fields, but when it comes to replacing human creativity, I'm not sold. I've certainly got no respect for anyone claiming to be an artist because they ran a program and stole the hardwork of potentially thousands of people. You can take away the profit motive, but you can't take out the social motives. People are dicks and capitalism isn't why they are, it's a symptom and a tool.
Maybe there's some use cases for that kind of thing, but I personally don't see it and think we'd be just fine leaving that sort of thing out of daily life. I don't see what we get beyond like making shitty graphics quickly or something, is that worth the harm?
Yeah honestly fuck this site. The hyperlinks don't go to the things they claim, they just go to more of their own articles, scummy
Nah fibromyalgia, life is hell
Worst I've had is cops searching all my pockets and bag when I got arrested, I guess I consented? It was mostly fine, largely because I'm white tbh

It's always funny to watch people try to fix capitalism by doing more capitalism...
I've been having my first proper flare up in ~3 years, I'd call that a win but I'm also really not enjoying life right now.

No this doesn't sound normal. Do you have any other symptoms, including things you might think are normal but that other people your age don't deal with, joint pain or fatigue for example?
I thought I was just someone with the knees of an 80 year old, but then I got diagnosed with fibromyalgia, which is almost certainly a misdiagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. Severe varicose veins at a young age is a known symptom of vascular EDS, not something you want to take lightly, I'd suggest trying to rule it out if you do have other symptoms as it's life threatening.
I have no reason to diagnose you, so don't take my suggestion of EDS that way. It's just worth taking things seriously if your quality of life is being impacted because it might save you a lot of pain in the future. Hence be on the lookout for other problems and consider that they may be related. You should also be careful of doctors dismissing your symptoms as it's extremely common for illnesses like this to be dismissed as "all in your head" especially if you're a woman.
Regardless of other symptoms, I'd still suggest you take it seriously and be sure your doctor is doing the same and not just declaring you healthy for no obvious reason.
Yep, sure am vegan. I'm not making a both sides are the same argument, sorry if I mistakenly said so.
While I despise attempts to unfairly shift blame on the consumer, I generally do as much as I'm able to not support things that are either harmful to the environment or unethical. I am vegan because I believe in animal rights before anything else though.
Trans Day of Visibility Rallies 2025 Australia
Rallies for Trans Day of Visibility will take place across Australia from March 30. With an election weeks away, now is the time for solidarity.
This article is from before the actions happened, I'm sharing this one because it's well written and touches on the points we consider most important: intersectionality and solidarity. Also we forgot to plan a post action media release for my city and got absolutely no media attention after the fact oops (except for community radio ♥️♥️♥️3CR❤️❤️❤️).
It's worth noting that this approach was so overwhelmingly successful that the rally in my city ended up being several times larger than anything we'd anticipated, 3000+ attendees at the peak. If you're looking at organising a radical campaign like this, use your contacts and ask your allies to mobilise, it's incredibly powerful stuff and builds power for their movements as well.
The discussion on mainstream queer activism being inadequate and toxic is very important and worth understanding in detail. You can't build a lasting movement or obtain liberation by throwing minorities under the bus and capitulating to oppressive patriarchal nor
Bring your friends!
If you're able to make it to the State Library on the 31st, please come and show your support. There are a lot of awful things happening to trans people and it's time we demand protection, the right to gender affirming care and an end to pink washing.
The 31st is the trans day of visibility, but we are now very visible and without protection that visibility is violence. We are done asking to be seen, we now demand to be safe.

Request: BIFL USB-C Earbuds/DSP IEMs
I basically listen to music constantly, and when I'm on holiday or riding my bike I generally use USB-C earbuds. I've had way too many wireless buds break and I'm sick of them, but these aren't fairing much better tbh.
Problem is that the cables always eventually stop working, often from my phone being in my pocket while I'm walking or cycling. I've been able to partly extend their life by keeping my phone in the thigh pocket on my cargo pants but it often just falls over and bends the cable more sharply than my hip pocket.
I'm looking for either a pair of highly durable earbuds either USB-C or 3.5mm with a USB-C DAC recommendation, or even better a DSP cable that I could use with IEMs with a 0.78mm connector.
I'm also open to any other suggestions at all.
Arrested for disobeying rule
Yep, I got arrested trying to block a coal ship in the world's largest coal port and I'm proud as fuck, give all your love to the protest organisers. I've talked about it a ton over in this thread (and a few others in similar communities). I was joined by a handful of other people, including a student doctor who is in this photo but hard to see, she's on my right in the shade. She's so damn brave and a huge inspiration.
This took place at the People's Blockade, an annual "protestival" organised by a group called Rising Tide.
I'm the (misgendered 😡) 27 year old in this article.
