I had an HP laptop that melted, but they voided the warranty when I unplugged it to stop it melting.
I avoided their products since then. Fucking $1200 gone.
I also have an HP printer and if I were to ever use HP toner it’s over $1000 for the 4 toners. But the generics are way under $100.
I avoid HP!
In the mid 2000s I had a little TV with a PlayStation 2 console, but going over bumps scratched the games so I took it all out. It was fun for a while.
I think it’s a local company, Met them at a local event for the alternative buildings and living off grid. We also met a lot of YouTubers there, it was super chill.
When I call them, I want to ask if it’s from a well, is it drinkable, etc. I do have filters and the UV light for water that I will add eventually.
I run a few online businesses (streaming, YouTube, eBay), but had to put all that on hold as we were moving and getting settled here. Just about out of our savings, but we are very close to starting the business back up. I think maybe 1-2 weeks.
There is always set backs working here off grid, example is yesterday I was cleaning land to move the RV and the track came off the excavator. It looks like a simple fix on YouTube but it’s raining now lol

Arizona has several counties that are not as strict and allow a lot of alternative living options.
Currently getting water from a purification machine at the store, it’s expensive but we use very little right now. (42 cents per gallon)
We just got a 2,500 gallon tank, after I finish the plumbing I plan to order water delivery, should be about $200 to fill the tank. (Less than 1 cent per gallon)
After that I’m making a roof and collecting rain water. (Free water)
I have dreamed of this lifestyle for over 20 years, and just moved here a few months ago.
Septic is installed, we live in an RV. Just got this land leveled and ready to move the RV into place next to the storage containers we have. Right across the driveway will be a large garden area, but right now we only have a compost pile so far.
A neighbor said they will help us with chickens, so we only need some fence and feed. Things move slowly, but we are excited to jump into this lifestyle. Fresh air and beautiful views.

If I were to prepare for the internet to be out, I would most likely do the following:
I would go with a mix of 720 for most movies/shows and my favorites at 1080. I would also go for a collection of my favorite music.
Then as an extra download Wikipedia and some Ted talks, and a bunch of YouTube videos to watch offline. I guess some e-books and or PDF. Maybe download some memes and stuff to laugh at.
I never connected my TV to the internet, I use a computer, an Apple TV or other box like that, etc always using external hdmi devices.
I just made a post on discord about this, and I link to alternatives such as a matrix group, signal chat, my YouTube channel, etc. if I am locked out, then I hope my followers can follow me to the new place, whatever that is.
Practice daily, any chance you get. Then see how far you get and if you enjoy doing it.
I see throughout history things have their ups and downs. I look forward to the next up.
One time in the mid 2000s my friend and I were on a hike in the mountains and we found a tree that was like a cave, all branches everywhere except a little entrance. Inside we found porn magazines with the pictures ripped out and placed on branches all over the inside of the “cave”. After that we always joked about the porn cave we found.
Futo has grants for open source and sounds close to what you need.
I run Linux mint with Nvidia card and no problems gaming, basically every game I tried worked (don’t forget to check protonDB and see how to get some games running, but most work right away).
As for dual booting, you need to worry about Microsoft doing evil and trashing the boot loader after an update. Windows is a mess, it spies on you, it boots your computer at 3 am to do updates, and it reboots when your doing work you haven’t saved. So happy I switched. (I do have an old MacBook that has macOS and windows for the few things that need windows or Mac such as modding tools (hardware flashing tools and such but I only use it a few times a year).

Can you afford your bills and are you happy? That’s what my view is, if you’re happy and can take care of yourself and others then you are doing amazing.
It was be amazing having a business like that, I dream of that. You’re doing great!
My wife used to use it, it was all the neighbors hearing fireworks or trash trucks and thinking it was gun shots all the time. But we did score a few things from their for sale section, and some yard sales listed on there.
- Freecycle
- Nextdoor
- Craigslist
- Marketplace
- Yard sales
- Estate sales
- Thrift stores
- trash cans and dumpsters/ curbs on trash day
- free clothing at the laundromat
- And so many more
I won’t dare to look.
I think I saw that they deny warranties because they (asus) will scratch your device and use that as an excuse to deny.
