  • Niko has whiskers and cat eyes and cat-like fangs too. Characters even comment on Niko's resemblance to a cat on multiple separate occasions.

  • Yeah, for certain the story couldn't be much like the original, but there's a lot of really creative ways you could get around the no-player-interaction problem. I can imagine it being set a few years in the future, with Niko back in the virtual world, this time having to deal with not having a guide. And even without player interaction, i think 4th wall breaks would be a powerful tool here; Maybe have Niko monologue to themself as a way to cope with loneliness and later comment on still feeling like some overbearing presence is watching over them. Finally at the end of the story Niko learns about a secondary protocol to keep The World Machine running, that being the movie itself with the only way to send Niko home being to cut the connection and end the movie.

There's also the puzzle aspect of the game that wouldn't transfer over into a movie, and i really don't think you can just remove it, the meta-puzzles are a core part of Oneshot, so a movie would have to replace them with something. I'm not much of a movie person so i don't know what would work well here. My best guess is some light exploration so that we get to see more of how the virtual world operates.

The movie format is good at some things that video games aren't. In Oneshot we only ever see interactions involving Niko. A movie would be a great opportunity to show more interesting character dynamics that aren't really possible in video game format.

  • Nah, i actually just started out with 3D printing. All i did was take the design from here, remove everything except the outline, make some light tweaks and use the final image as a displacement texture in blender. You could pretty easily do this with any image, and seeing how much people like this one, i'll probably make some similar stuff in the future.

  • It's just a convention. commands starting with $ are meant to be executed by a user. commands starting with # are meant to be executed by root.

  • Seriously, those sections with the author's children exlaining the simulation to Niko were what really made OneShot for me. Most devs are afraid of putting a lot of text anywhere but in the right place it can be a wonder for worldbuilding.

  • Maybe it's just RegEx. 0 or more "F"s allowed. e.g. CK, FCK, FFCK, ...

  • Sure

  • I don't really get this question, i make 2 posts / day because that's how much of my time i'm willing to spend on internet picture sharing.

  • This is why i like robinson projection, same thing as mercator except squished by the cosine of latitude to account for area distortion

  • Thanks for the wishes! This /c/ is far from over :)
