The first half of their album Mind Freeze is pretty damn strong upon first listen! Got the same energy carried by these sick guitars.
Haunt - Burst Into Flame
Fairly recent heavy metal band from California carries the torch for releasing a speed metal track as their opener, which also happens to be this albums title track. Heavy metal is in a decent place if this type of quality carries on as we all march towards the uncertain future.
Hawkin loogies everywhere xD
Love this proto-death era!
This is pretty interesting, I bet !doommetal@lemmy.world would enjoy this
They feel like they're always trying to catch up to their peers, and maybe a tad bit immature lol
I bet you it's the production lol winky face
I agree with your remark about the production, as always ;D. Though it does contribute to that ethereal vibe.
That's just the shitloads of synths and keys lol but yea, it seems adding something will just take something else away.
Decapitated - Just a Cigarette
My top track from their latest album. Took me a while to get over their choice to add groove elements when their prodigious drummer passed (r.i.p) but I've come to appreciate their approach to songwriting - brutal and clean and very surgical.
Warbringer - Cage of Air
From Warbringer's latest album, have some brutal thrash!
Raven - Faster than the Speed of Light
Another NWOBM band opened their second album with a speed metal track, as is the standard to set the excitement!

It fucken wimdy
Cryptosis - In Between Realities
Dutch technical/blackened symphonic thrash with lots of aggression I just discovered recently. Genuinely interesting stuff with bombastic atmosphere, some of their material reminds me of Vektor here and there. However it's production is like.. too well done imo, takes away some of the bite. Good thing the songwriting isn't boring xD.
Hell yea - love Hangar 18 as well!
NECKBREAKKER - Shackled to a Corpse
These Danes started out under the name Nakkeknaekker in 2020 and have been touring Europe with growing popularity. Posted and linked is one of the better tracks from their anticipated debut, though all tracks are great, especially the opener.
Metallica - Call of Ktulu
Your all know em or hate em. Here's the instrumental from their phenomenal second album. Chilling and foreboding, yet awesome and epic.

Sodom - Surfin' Bird (The Trashmen cover)
Hope you don't mind the reupload @serpineslair@lemmy.world ! The other post's link doesn't work for me, leads to "video unavailable" lol.

Havok - Post Mortem / Raining Blood (Slayer cover)
When this EP came out in 2012, I remember thinking to myself, FINALLY two of the greatest thrash classics mashed together in one track! Updated with modern production and definitely pays homage to the originals, but nothing will ever replace what came first. There's also a cover of Sepultura's Arise on this EP but it's easily overshadowed by this track imo.
An anthem from NYC lol
Benediction - Beyond the Veil (of the Gray Mare)
Hailing from the UK, these dudes usually play death metal, and have historically done so since 89. But I made this my pick for today simply cuz this is straight up a death/thrash track. A bit formulaic and predictable but I don't find myself skipping it when it comes around on shuffle. Solid track imo.
Lååz Rockit - Mob Justice
Classic Bay Area thrash, like a mix between Anthrax and Metal Church. Great guitar sound and decently written.
You're definitely right that the album covers are similar. xD
Krokus - Headhunter
Swiss old guard in the heavy metal/hard rock sector of music, once again another explosive album opener in practiced SPEED METAL fashion. Reminds me a bit of Judas Priest's Exciter from Stained Class, especially with the double bass intro.

LMFAO how the fuck did I not self correct my own upload, thanks for noticing it, I'll edit and fix it 🤣
Great pick for an upload today lol

great explanation, TLDW: came from a hardcore punk band named Dishcarge in the 80s, and in this track, it's the style of drumming right at the 27 second mark. It's a common enough style to give it its own name xD
Honestly it feels weird saying community owner or manager, and you're definitely more than just a mod lol plus we're all fans of metal here so overlord sounded justifiably fitting in a corny, over-the-top kind of way xD
Allegaeon - Accelerated Evolution
My top fave track from Allegaeon's first album. Felt like these guys just came out of nowhere. Also love when new bands try new shit mixed in with thier typical genres, like the mid section to this song.
Gojira - Remembrance
Easily one of the biggest bands today with fantastic environmental messages and the music kicks major ass too. This is my top track from their second album.
Flotsam and Jetsam - No Place For Disgrace
Opener to their second album, arguably superior to their first, this track comes out swinging, only to relent in the passage before the solo. Fantastic thrash metal with hints of power metal that don't drag it down - I wish they kept this quality throughout their career.

Exodus - Scar Spangled Banner
Sneaky second upload today, and a nod to our community's overlord Serp! Figure this is a fantastic representation of today's bullshit - exhausting and soon to be bloodied. On behalf of the Americans that see reason, I apologize to the rest of the free world.
Anyway this track and album tear up some ass so enjoy!

Accept - Fast as a Shark
Legendary 80's Teutonic heavy metal band opened their 4th album (arguably their greatest) with a speed metal track, as many often do, to get the adrenaline flowing. Another fucking classic.

Black Breath - Sentenced to Life
Death metal, crossover thrash, and crust punk all come together to create this healthy dose of aggression. Reminds me a ton of Entombed mixed with shitloads of D-beats lol - great moshin shit.
Nice, a fairly newer modern extreme band that shares a home with one of my all time faves The Crown; both are from Trollhätten! I'll have to go see these guys when I visit next time
Been on a Ghoul kick recently? xD Not complaining, I'm glad you're bringing these kickass tracks to my attention!
Gwar - Lot Lizard
Havent really paid any attention to newer Gwar since the vocalist passed, but this happened to pop up in my daily recommends and I made it my pick here today. This particular track is some crossover thrash with lots of unserious punk attitude lol. I'll have to check out the rest of this EP when it drops later on if this song is any indication of the quality.
Absolutely loooove Inquisition Symphony! Whne I burned cds for random distribution during my school days, I also had a list of epic instrumentals. Inquisition Symphony, The Ultra-Violence, all four of pre Black album Metallica instrumentals plus Metal Church's Merciless Onslaught, and I'm sure there's one or two more I forgot. xD
Cavalera Conspiracy - Escape to the Void (Re-Recorded)
A Sepultura classic that's been rerecorded with the Cavalera bros. Love this era of death/thrash and a lot of the music has been respected with this final modern release of their "Third World Trilogy" rerecordings. Voice has a crazy reverb on it, but that's literally my only gripe that I got over pretty quickly lol.
