Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro announced with Wear OS, Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1, and rotating crown

Alongside the Xiaomi 13T series, Xiaomi has also announced the Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro (Image).

Xiaomi has released several smartwatches in the past, but their previous smartwatches either ran a non-AOSP-based OS (like the Watch S1) or Wear OS without Google Apps (like the Mi Watch). The Watch 2 Pro is Xiaomi's first smartwatch to run MIUI on top of Wear OS and have access to the Google Play Store. Plus, unlike the Mi Watch, the Watch 2 Pro will be available outside of China.

The Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro features a round 1.43-inch AMOLED display at 466x466 resolution, comes in a 46mm size, Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chipset, up to 65h battery life, dual-band GNSS, and a rotating crown. It'll go on sale for 269 Euros for the Bluetooth model and 329 Euros for the LTE variant. Here are the full specifications:

Xiaomi 13T series unveiled with Leica lenses, IP68 rating, up to MediaTek's Dimensity 9200+, and up to 120W charging

Xiaomi just launched its latest T series devices, the Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro. I know Xiaomi releases a lot of smartphones, so it's challenging (even for those of us who cover mobile tech) to keep track of it all, but there aren't many phones in Xiaomi's T series, fortunately.

This graphic from Xiaomi should help with understanding their smartphone product lines. Note that it's from mid-2020 so it's a bit outdated, as Xiaomi has since retired their Mi Note series, dropped "Mi" from their branding, and made the T series more camera-focused.

(Disclaimer: Xiaomi invited me to attend their launch event in Berlin and to try out their new phones. I'm not including any of my opinions in this post (I'll post a hands-on/AMA separately), but I wanted to be transparent regardless.)

  • Yeah, this is the right approach. It's true that ASUS dropped the ball when it comes to getting their bootloader unlock tool server back online as well as in keeping users updated on their progress. It's also true that you should never really take what support staff says at face value, and that a response from a PR rep is always preferable over support staff.

However, there are times when even the PR reps aren't aware of an internal policy change, or they aren't allowed to communicate as such yet. I don't think that's the case here, though. The PR rep I'm in touch with is the same one who has been running the Zenfone developer program for years, so I trust them!

  • Haven't had the Fold 5 for long enough to really comment on the hinge durability but I'm not worried about hinge right now though.

As for which device I want to daily drive, I'm most looking forward to using the Z Fold 5 since I do a lot of work on my phone and I think I'll take advantage of the multitasking capabilities.

  • I also actually daily drive the TicWatch Pro 3! I know Mobvoi is working on a Wear OS 3 update for the watch, but it's still in private beta and probably won't roll out soon for regular users.

I'm personally interested in the Watch 6 because it runs Wear OS 4 based on Android 13 out of the box and thus has access to a bunch of Wear OS apps I currently can't get on my TicWatch lol.

    1. Through the Multistar Good Lock module you'll be able to run any app on the cover screen, so I would say the Flip 5 cover screen is indeed a big upgrade. (If you're the kind of person to use Lemmy then you're probably comfortable with installing/sideloading Good Lock.)
    2. Didn't get to get this but will ask tomorrow if we can get our hands on it
    3. My first impression is that the taskbar felt cluttered with 4 recents apps but fortunately in settings you can choose how many recents to show.
    4. Didn't really get a chance to appreciate the colors, sorry! Was more focused on stuff like the hinge, crease, software, etc
