At first, it was just a quiet murmur in relatively isolated sections of the financial press. Today, however, the voices are growing louder: the US dollar could lose its role as the world’s global currency amid the breakdown of all the arrangements and mechanisms of the post-war period under the impact of the US economic war against the world initiated by President Trump.

The Supreme Court on Saturday blocked, for now, the deportations of any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th century wartime law.

In a brief order, the court directed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in the Bluebonnet Detention Center "until further order of this court."

In a "breathtaking departure from the rule of law" - and facing multiple legal routs - Trump and his fascist flunkies continue to lie, stall and gaslight on their right to disappear a Maryland sheet metal worker and other brown-skinned migrants to an El Salvador gulag with zero evidence of wrongdoing, even as ICE Gestapo still run rampant - Smashed Windshields 'R Us - and oh yeah U.S. citizens may be next. Take note, says historian Timothy Snyder: "This is the beginning of an American policy of state terror."

The escalating legal standoff over the wrongful deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia has in turn become a "political flashpoint" on an already fiercely divided Capitol Hill. To most of us, the case symbolizes a racist crackdown that threatens the basic rights of us all, while the regime's increasingly flagrant violations of court orders threaten the very rule of law. Dug into an alternate reality, the regime argues it's nobly fighting for "the safety of American citizens" a

Over the last twenty years or so, using a wide range of empirical data and drawing from the works of Andre Gunder Frank, Peter Gowan and world system theorists, we have produced a trilogy whose key tenet is that the American system of global imperial governance established in the 1940s has, since the end of the 1960s, entered a period of protracted, yet sustained, decline (Fouskas & Gokay, 2005; Fouskas and Gokay, 2012; Fouskas & Gokay 2019). The global financial crisis of 2007-08, along with the Eurozone crisis and the health emergency of the Covid-19 pandemic, further transformed the Euro-Atlantic area into a hotbed of perpetual crisis. The United States’ proxy war with Russia over Ukraine, which provisionally united Euro-Atlanticism behind the façade of an antiquated Cold War policy of NATO expansion, did little to reverse the economic decline of the USA. On the contrary, it increased the United States’ deficits (domestic and international), devastated the European, especially Ger

All across the United States, people are rising up--refusing to be complicit in the slow-motion annihilation of democracy. They march against a regime that strips away public goods, criminalizes dissent, vanishes students, and hollows out the very institutions meant to protect civic life. But these ...

The War on the Liberal Class

Is it really the end of the End of History? Is this the demise of the “long” 20th century? To many observers, the neoliberal hegemony that Francis Fukuyama diagnosed a generation ago appears to be over. Both liberal democracy and the globalized free market are in retreat: Anti-establishment, anti-institutional, anti-incumbent politicians skilled at extreme rhetoric have been gaining ground in many advanced democracies. Since returning to power, Donald Trump has governed as an arbitrary tyrant in blatant defiance of the rule of law, threatened the sovereign territory of multiple U.S. allies, and announced exorbitant levies on goods imported from nearly every foreign country, throwing global markets into turmoil. An age of renewed great-power competition and tariff-driven autarky seems to be at hand.

Events are moving with shocking speed, and it’s too early to say if democracy, free trade, and the e

This is what a digital coup looks like

“We are watching the collapse of the international order in real time, and this is just the start,” says investigative journalist Carole Cadwalladr. In a searing talk, she decries the rise of the “broligarchy” — the powerful tech executives who are using their global digital platforms to amass unprecedented geopolitical power, dismantling democracy and enabling authoritarian control across the world. Her rallying cry: resist data harvesting and mass surveillance, and support others in a groundswell of digital disobedience. “You have more power than you think,” she says.

  • Corporate prosecutions and leniency agreements, fiscal years 1994-2024

I don't understand the people who think their favorite politicians are perfect gods without any mistakes in life.

The rules apply to all politicians, no exceptions.

Biden will be judged by his DOJ, the same way Trump will be judged by his DOJ.

You can't have the successes you like, without acknowledging the mistakes you don't like.

  • I find it funny that Trump is super angry about one of the only people he cannot control... till now, no guarantee what will happen in the future.

  • I find it ironic that you shared a Washington Post(News outlet that is owned by Jeff Bezos,CEO of Amazon) article that is talking about Bernie Sanders supporting the working class.

Just Wow. The capitalist news outlet that is owned by real life villain.

  • I can't believe that this is the actual title of the fact sheet. lol

  • Let the real recession begin.

  • Congratulations, Donald Trump heard your suggestion.

  • Reporting Highlights

    • Unsanitary Conditions: Workers at one of the nation’s largest baby formula plants say the Abbott Laboratories facility is engaging in unsanitary practices.
    • Cardboard Funnel: In one case, workers said an employee used a piece of cardboard from a trash bin to funnel coconut oil, a formula ingredient, into a tank during production.
    • Federal Response: One worker complained to the FDA, but it’s unclear how the agency will respond. The Trump administration recently cut 3,500 jobs at the FDA in a mass layoff.
  • How so? I had not see any measurable awareness growth.

I really don't see any point in it.

  • But it literally it was on the news for a day, that's it.

Protests go on for multi days and have a physical effect and achieve discomfort.

Meanwhile, I don't see the speech achieving a lot of that.

  • I don't want to read your wall of text to benefit no one. But here is the source:

  • What should the news organizations who prepped this investigation do?

Their job(The reason they got their money) is so they can have investigations like this.

  • Can. You. Prove. It?

I am tired of people making baseless claims on the comments. If you are going to make a claim, then support it to show that you are right.

  • So you are saying that contributing to Lemmy regularly, forfit any right to call out power tripping mods?

This is one of the most illogical comments I read on Lemmy.

It's like you were trying to make a argument but you forget to connect it together to make sense.

  • How is it a propaganda?

With all respect to you, Logic does not work with vibes.

There has to be a proof, then a conclusion.

    Otherwise, it's meaningless.

Again, I highly respect you. But your opinion does not make any sense to me.

  • Your comment does not show how is this a propaganda.

It only shows that you disagree with the article.

Not everything you disagree with is a propaganda.
