  • the cope in articles like this (ive also seen it from r*dditors in a couple of threads where someone brought this up) that china is still "struggling" to catch up after "years" of development is quite funny to me. like, yall were saying restricting these AI chips was going to fucking cripple china for potentially decades unless they bent the knee to the US. now you're just saying shit like "NVIDA STILL NUMBAH 1 BABY WE DA BEST IN THE WOOOORLD CHINA STILL HASNT FULLY CAUGHT UP AFTER YEARS LOL LMAO" and it's just like... these export restrictions started in 2022? now, i know china didnt actually start developing their own gpus and such when these export restrictions happened, there's been many years of research and development beforehand of course, but like you can see that there's been explosive growth in this area since these started and you're already having to cope that they've "struggled for years"??? just give it up man you're fucking cooked, maybe if you lift export restrictions you can extend nvida's time as company that makes the most powerful GPUS in the world for some time but at this point i dont think there's actually any stopping companies like Huwaei anymore, stop coping with shit like this and start trying to make real analysis on when the gap that's left will close.

  • well this is the sign up process now super easy and quick.

https://webxdc.org/apps/ if you want to look at the list of all the apps available inside of deltachat itself

https://delta.chat/en/2025-01-23-webxdc-no-billionaires this has a good overview of what these webapps can do

https://delta.chat/en/2024-11-20-webxdc-realtime this has a really cool demonstration video

  • how long ago was this? it hasnt even been a year since they made chatmail the default where it takes like 2 seconds to set up after you download it. if you're trying to get people to use it you should also heavily play up the web apps, they're really cool and despite being really new software wise already have great functionality

  • weird they were working for me. as far as trusting their custom servers, its open source you can see how they work yourself and run one if you really dont trust they're running the same code. you could also packet sniff yourself to see if any meta data is getting leaked when you use it. https://delta.chat/en/2025-03-26-edit-and-delete-how this explains how they work better than i did maybe.

  • i hope they manage to add it in the future then for you! https://delta.chat/en/help#pfs

you could also use the p2p web app that has perfect forward security https://delta.chat/en/2024-11-20-webxdc-realtime

Anyone else here tried out Delta Chat?

TLDR: while deltachat isnt literally perfect, it seems to have done a great job balancing privacy and security with ease of use so that normies will find it easy to use it while the truly paranoid can still use it if they put in a little extra effort. it solved the vast majority of problems with encrypted email like slow message speed and meta data leakage with chatmail servers, and has helped develop what seems to me to be a super promising web app format. although i've only been using it a day and a half, ive done a lot of reading and testing on my own so im confident what im saying has a least a little merit, although i'm sure there will be at least a few things that will only become apparent after a few weeks of use. from perusing the forums and their mastodon, the devs seems very competent and engaged as well, so i have faith that issues that pop up will be fixed in a timely manner.

who it is perfect for: people tryi

  • incredible post, and you really fucking cooked with the "Democratization Versus Corporate Capture" paragraph especially, it drives me mad how many supposed leftists implicitly support IP when they argue about that kind of thing

  • will this be brought back? im getting bad cert domain error.

  • Role

  • i thought that actually was in 2014 when it first started

  • There’s a huge space for short daily news analysis being ignored.

they tried with a channel called "first thought" but it doesnt perform very well (mostly because it has the same problem that you mentioned, they hesitate to say anything too radical on there for their audience)
