  • to make any sense at all of this kind of study result, it is definitely necessary to go read the entire thing, and then if it's a survey, the survey questions themselves, which are often unavailable. and also the article itself is probably paywalled too.

  • i think what's most interesting is that these guys look at china, they recognize that amerikkka is fundamentally failing on structural levels, that they're in the future and we're in the past, and yet for some reason insist that they've managed to devise this mystical, entirely theoretical way to catch back up and get to where china is THAT IS INEXPLICABLY NOT JUST COPYING CHINA????? it boggles the mind, the hubris, the stupidity. they literally insist on reinventing a wheel for the sake of ideological purity and insist that this is the only way to be free.

  • almost every part of the country is a web of hostile architecture and islands between which only cars can flow readily.

  • yeah, i appreciated how different it was. another great environmental detail showing the stark difference in their character.

  • my favorite detail of the game that i've seen basically no one talk about is that every single page of arthur's journal is handwritten by someone, in a quite consistent and uncommon font. if you look carefully, you'll notice that no appearance of any particular letter is ever quite the same.

  • one of the best things he does in this is give that insane settlerite leader lady a microphone and asking her about settler violence repeatedly, until he can end the doc with footage of her actually demonstrating physically how insane this makes zionists. also repeatedly showing how just hanging out with a Palestinian man justified getting constantly harassed by the IOF. all-in-all, probably a great thing to be airing on bbc television, they will probably get insane threats for him asking settlers basic question about what violent illegal psychopaths they are.

  • it's still kind of blowing my mind that the macklemore of "thrift shop" fame from a decade ago is actively funding a project made with the psl to support palestinian liberation. it's just really something.

  • Parents are encouraged not to use words like “severe,” “profound,” or even “Level 3” to describe our child’s autism

yeah, i wonder why. what a fucking nightmare this person is, i feel bad for her daughter. i like pokemon, i'm not literally a pokemon. when we say this shit has levels to it, i don't think ranking and numbering them is what anyone meant.

  • They got the crowd to do "Maggie's in a box," that was pretty cool

  • the shortest simplest explanation is that X11 was designed around the idea that multiple user terminals would connect to one large mainframe computer, not everyone just having their own machine like actually became commonplace.

  • pop is a pretty similar distro that should be compatible with what you want to do, but i'm not sure how much it hits for a more unified package management system. it's really hard to beat the AUR and a AUR helper like paru for that.

  • dmenu is iconic for a reason, although manually patching it to meet your preferences is a bit too much of a project for people who just want something to work. not wanting to learn C is valid.

  • i've transferred 10's of ~300 GB files via manual rsyncs. it was a lot of binary astrophysical data, most of which was noise. eventually this was replaced by an automated service that bypassed local firewalls with internet-based transfers and aws stuff.

  • using google's office tools is going to be pretty generally acceptable for most people. depending on your studies, you might be expected to use windows software at some point. i would recommend dual booting. depending on your computing hardware, buying a relatively cheap 1 TB SSD from any retailer and installing windows on it is usually the best option. should simply be a matter of selecting the correct boot device from your system bios. for psychologists, my supposition would be that any proprietary software used, if any, would be windows exclusive.

  • could always give antix linux a shot

  • well in a cosmic sort of sense, it already is. (android is based on a modified linux kernel). seriously though, check out https://antixlinux.com/ it's a distro to put on any computer, even ones that old.

  • Jesus Christ, what a fucking asshole. Calls the very valid complaints "trolling" before locking the fucking thread
