I've been actually really enjoying this one. It's got some nice tools like zip/unzip which I recall are not possible actions in google's filemanager.

Roman is the only one that has positively reacted to the open letter... Thanks for sharing!

And it seems like apart from Roman the two other shareholders haven't even worked on the project (atleast on the public part) for almost a year really...
The positive side is that if it's forked I have high hopes the volunteers will move to the fork. But yeah will be sad to lose the brand "Organic Maps".

I didn't know there has been ongoing drama like this. Damnit. Can't believe how shady their behaviour looks like while promoting it as crystal clear FOSS alternative to Google Maps.
Honestly reading this open letter mentioning the history behind writing it doesn't make me feel very confident that the shareholders will follow suit (except for Roman).
I hope OM is forked and that the fork gains momentum. I love OM but damn this letter makes me feel angry at the shareholders.

I've tried to participate in so many giveaways and lotteries and never won anything. I believe that's my superpower: lose against the odds.

Uh oh.. Forgot about that! Please don't tell Secreta Secretorum officials!!

I haven't been in Finland for quite some time and just wanted to bump this thread to give it visibility, but I can also add that general check-ups are indeed a thing and you should be able to do them by going to your local clinic and saying you would like one (checking your blood for values for sure, not sure about the other stuff though).
I hope someone here can give you more relevant and recent info.

Welp, was good while it lasted.

Not super important but I guess the title is missing the number 2?
Appreciate you taking us on this journey through Oglaf for us first-timers OP!

I played it, enjoyed it, and had no idea what the hell is going on.
It was fun because I went in with the expectation that it's bizarre and has a certain cult classic reputation.

That example about "sleep a car" and the forest running made it crystal clear to me what's going on, thank you!
Also I think intransitive verb is the term I really needed. This helps tremendously.
Thank you for taking time to explain it to me!

Ahh! That actually makes a lot of sense now. I've struggled with this sentence for a few days and it was driving me nuts. Thank you so much!
And thanks for the example where to use akkusativ! I really need more examples like that to hammer this into my head.

Dativ vs Akkusativ
Hallo!
So I thought that maybe we have people here who can help me with this:
I'm having a lot of trouble understanding when to use Dativ vs Akkusativ in German. I understand that specific prepositions require specific cases, but in general I often find myself applying the wrong case in a sentence.
In some sentences it is quite clear:
Ich habe den Stift gekauft. (Pen being the direct object that is being bought)
But there are cases like this:
Ich schlafe in meinem auto in meiner pause (I know the order is wrong, but the cases seem to stay as they are even if you change the order)
Here I would have thought that the car is the direct object. I struggle with this a lot and often apply akkusativ case wrongly.
I would appreciate if someone could help me with understanding this better. For example: Why is the car not the direct object in the above example?

Activity on [email protected] has gone down since I haven't had time to draw and I don't really want to post requests without contributing myself so it doesn't just look like a dead community. But there is atleast one post a week!
Will have to get back into it soon.
[email protected]'s weekly thread still gathers nice amount of commenters, so that's a positive! I feel like people are too shy to ask questions there.

Well, atleast they explained how they "fixed" the problem.
Got to love those "all good, problem solved/went away" - posted 5 years ago

I'm almost done with this book and can really recommend.
I'm not a fan of horror but thought I should read this classic and have not been disappointed.

Wise, I am. Silly, I may be.

Sounds like [email protected] might be a nice community to post this question to as well :)

Isn't that very country/culture/field specific?

Is there a better way to search for/sort mechanical keyboards?
cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/33821377
I'm trying to find mechanical keyboards that are not black/grey, are standard or TKL, and are hotswappable. I have yet to find a site that allows you to sort by all three chritiria, nonetheless sort though multiple brands/sites. Has anyone made a site along these lines?
Edit: like what pcpartpicker offers for most other computer parts
Edit 2: Keeb-finder is what I was looking for. Its support for non-American stuff isn't great, but its better than nothing.

Hey Estonians and people living in Estonia, would you mind sharing some Estonian brands/products you like and can recommend to us over at c/buyeuropean?
Tere!
I recently made a similar post over at c/norway (https://sopuli.xyz/post/22971124) and would love to hear some Estonian brands and products recommended by you.
Now there is this one Saku Honey Ale I drank years ago in Tallinn that has stuck in my mind like an ex-partner who I just can't get over of. I tried to search for it last time I visited Tallinn but couldn't find it anymore...
Any brands and product recommendations would be cool!
Edit: sorry for posting in English, I can't speak or write in Estonian and was reading on the sidebar that English posts are welcome.

How has learning a language as an adult helped you to learn about a culture / gain new perspective?

I personally feel like I understand German-speaking people better the more I study the language.
E.g. my experience was that they are generally good listeners because their language has a sentence structure which forces the listener to wait for the most important information at the end of a sentence.
Bad Denglish to demonstrate:
"I have yesterday night... at the football field.... together with friends ... (dude get to the point) had a beer"

StreetComplete: A fun way to contribute to OpenStreetMap
cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/22543124
StreetComplete makes contributing to OpenStreetMap easy and fun by turning contributions into "quests" on a map for you to complete. No personal information is required, just create an OpenStreetMap account, and start contributing directly in your area!
I tried this out myself, and it is truly fantastic! I had never heard of it, and I'm sure many of you haven't either, so spread the word!
Tip: When entering buildings to ask questions (opening hours, etc.) be ready to explain what OpenStreetMap is :)

Is the community edition megathread being actively maintained?
Yarr me mateys!
Arrr, be ye askin' if it be true that the megathread be the community edition o' the thread, and it not be gettin' the proper swabbin' o' the decks, eh? In other words, be the community edition o' the thread bein' left to rot, without any landlubbers to keep it ship-shape?
Just wanted say I really appreciate the community here, and love that there is a lemmy community edition of the megathread, but was wondering if it is being maintained? It seems that the last update was in october, while the old megathread upkept by reddit's piracy community seems to be more recent.
I don't know if the old megathread is any better regarding the links, just asking if there are any people with access to community wiki that are keeping an eye on it and updating links?
I'm sorry that I myself am not active editor, I understand that we who are not on dbzer0 lemmy instance don't really have edit access on the wiki.
Arrr, thanks to ye, matey, and may the winds o' fortune blow in yer
