  • I’m very lucky for my position in a lot of ways but I am so goddamned tired of the expectation in retail that you have to hold the customers hand every step of the way through the process and if you aren’t on top of them every second of the day you are falling short and causing us not to hit whatever quota. Like excuse me for assuming people want personal space and can be expected to ask for help when they need it like goddamned adults.

  • Yeah i see that too and it truly misses the point that this is just what the CIA exists to do and always has done; Put American capital and its interests above all else and pursue them at all costs. The correct response to this is to dismantle the CIA as is long overdue anyway but that is obviously out of the question for anyone even close to the power to do that

  • I always compare life before studying the eternal science to that feeling when you forget that you left the fan on over the stove. There’s just this nagging anxious feeling that doesn’t go away. Then when you shut the fan off there’s still a mess in the kitchen but atleast you can fucking think!

  • Just from cursory googling

    My laymen’s understanding of the subject is that basically the CIA needed a culture counterpoint to the artistic output of the Soviet Union and this was a part of that. They deliberately cultivated a mileu of “I’m a socialist but Stalin was a fascist” because it allowed them to highlight the progressive values and free speech of the U.S. while painting the Soviets as an authoritarian police state. It’s not as simple as “The CIA invented post-modernism” but they certainly helped

  • It’s been a lot of years since I read Vonnegut and it’s the imagery that sticks with me more than anything else. I did not remember that specific quote but it’s pretty cringe. For whatever can be said about the moral weight of the bombing of Dresden it was definitely not the biggest massacre in European history. I’ll always say I like Vonnegut and definitely important part of my pipeline but he’s got Iowa writers workshop brain worms like many of his contemporaries.

    Why are you a Leftist?

    Wanted to take a second to make some positive cases for why we believe in Scientific Socialism/Anarchism. We spend a lot of time belittling historically illiterate smug lords (which is awesome) but I think it’s important to take a second to appreciate why these ideas resonate with us so much and why we find these ideas so important that they are worth fighting for online and IRL. I’ll go first;

    Demystification: that’s a big thing for me. The imperial core is a place that is full of institutions that, can technically be understood, and yet do not make a whole lot of sense in their function. Health insurance companies are a great example of this. The entire process of acquiring and using insurance in the U.S. is a Kafka-esque beauracratic nightmare. And at every step there are individuals who are happy to help you understand the process, and yet even once you gain the understanding they impart, it all still feels wildly inefficient and punitive. Even to a very young person, it doesn’t m
