  • Under lots of pressure, Bono recently released his most forceful statement on the subject

“Hamas, release the hostages. Stop the war. Israel, be released from Benjamin Netanyahu and far-right fundamentalists that twist your sacred texts"

This statement perpetuates two Israeli propaganda lies: 1) Hamas is able to end the war by releasing hostages, and 2) The genocidal project is the sole responsibility of Netanyahu and Likud, and not the greater Jewish supremacist movement that has controlled Israel since it's inception.

And to be clear, this is Bono's best statement on the subject. You can Google his earlier statements to find more genocide denial and Hasbara propaganda.

  • He doesn't have to be an activist for every issue, but it is a giant stain on his legacy of activism when he runs cover for an ongoing Holocaust.

Most activists are motivated by humanist ideals, but the issue of Gaza makes it obvious that Bono is not an ethical humanist, so his activism must be motivated by other desires.

  • "Great activist" Bono has been mostly silent on the ongoing genocide in Gaza for the past 20 months.

The "great activist" has been releasing tepid statements running cover for genocidal Israel as he continues his strong financial ties with the country doing ethnic cleansing in broad daylight.

  • And when Kamala had the entire DNC establishment behind her, what was stopping her from distancing herself from Biden? What was she afraid of?

Even if Biden came out to publically criticize Kamala, that would have mixed results at best. A large chunk of Kamala's base was still thinking about how Biden's brain malfunctioned at the debate, another chunk was calling him Genocide Joe.

She chose to stick with Biden's legacy instead of developing her own policy platform for the American people, and it directly gave us President Trump.

  • He used the world's strongest military to illegally invade, occupy, and slaughter some of the poorest people on the planet.

He played a leading role in multiple coups against democratically elected governments, replacing them with brutal violent dictators.

Millions died due to his war crimes, and he was proud of his work.

  • But to become a leading capitalist you must exploit hundreds of thousands of people.

This process strips you of most of your humanity and empathy, thus you will likely no longer care about "protecting nature".

  • If someone deserves punishment, celebrating that punishment is basically just hatred.

Yes, I hate the man who spent my tax dollars to bomb children living in tent cities.

I hate the man who failed so spectacularly as a candidate that he gave us president Trump.

    I hate Genocide Joe.

  • Aiding and abetting a genocide is depraved.

Going on national TV and lying about seeing "pictures of 40 beheaded babies" is depraved.

Celebrating when a war criminal gets prostate cancer? Not depraved at all in my opinion. He deserves much worse.

  • Someone driving or operating machinery high is just as dangerous as someone driving drunk

You have a source or anything to back this idea up?

I delivered pizzas in downtown Seattle for a couple years, and most of my coworkers were constantly stoned. Many weren't just hitting pens or joints, they would hit a fat dab with a torch lighter and then hop in their vehicle and make a delivery.

Both years I worked there, our delivery team got an annual award for having 0 vehicle accidents.

Obviously this is anecdotal, but if you run this same situation back with alcohol instead of weed, I am confident there would have been many accidents.

  • Yes, the current president is supporting genocide.

You don't hear anyone on the left yelling about it? Maybe you should pay attention, protest movements are ongoing. Protest tactics and media coverage may change in the Trump era, but the anti-genocide movement is still strong in my opinion.

If you want to make some sort of political point then you should come out and say it. Hiding behind sarcasm is off putting when discussing a serious subject like genocide. Its almost like you don't actually care.

  • Yes, the lie that Biden was pushing for a ceasefire gave him tons of political cover. It was one of his administration's primary Gaza talking points. They used this lie to deflect against valid criticism for months.

Even AOC fell for the lie, saying Harris was working tirelessly for a ceasefire in Gaza

  • leaving $10m to each child, with plans to donate everything else

The plans were to donate everything else to a tax-advantaged "charity" in which the Gates family retains complete financial control.

This is not philanthropy. It is tax avoidance, greenwashing, and a public relations campaign.

  • because they support the existence of Israel they have blood on their hands?

    Yes.

If "Zionist" means anything at all, it means support for Israel as it currently exists. This means support for Jewish supremacy, support for bombing campaigns against civilians in multiple nations, and support for a literal ongoing genocide. Anyone who lends support to these evils has blood on their hands.

You can try to move goalposts to say Zionist only means "israel has a right to exist", but this is meaningless in context. I personally believe in a one-state solution where Palestinians have equal rights with Jews; a state where there is no apartheid, ethnic cleansing, nor aggression against neighboring countries. I would be fine with this hypothetical country keeping the name "Israel". Does this make me a Zionist too? If so, the term is meaningless.

I never mentioned their faith, why are you deciding what it is?

You are right about this, I should have been more clear with my words. I was describing a hypothetical Christian Zionist, not your specific neighbor who might be Jewish, Muslim, or atheist. Whatever their faith may be, I condemn their Zionism.

  • The genocide would not be possible if it wasn't for the financial and rhetorical support of Christian Zionists like your neighbor. They may not directly murder anyone, but they do have blood on their hands.

Christian Zionists vastly outnumber Jewish individuals on this planet, and correspondingly, the majority of donations to pro-genocide groups like AIPAC come from Christian Zionists.

People like your neighbor are directly funding the genocide. Why wouldn't they be culpable?

  • It's not wasted at all, this is textbook Shock Doctrine (Naomi Klein, 2007). This is Steve Bannons's "flood the zone" strategy that Trump is currently following.

The lies will be believed by dedicated Zionists. Paid Hasbara trolls will be repeating these lies forever.

For most news consumers, the story will come across muddled, confused, and open to personal interpretation. From their low-information perspective, a conclusion of "both sides" seems reasonable.

And for those who are paying attention and have a strong sense of morality, this will be one more battle we will have to repeatedly fight. We will have to expend time and energy to fight this lie, and it is just one of many.
