  • Maybe it's written in seal script?

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_script

  • True?

  • Great this means I have to use Garuda or Endeavor 😮‍💨

  • Didn't even realize there was another streetwear community 🤝 I don't see any activity on that entire instance tho. Is it defederated with lemmy.world?

  • Reddit had (has 😝) several fashion subs. Male Fashion was popular for all genders (they grew beyond their name). r/Streetwear (of which I was a former mod 🥲) had 4.6 million subscribers. There were several other subs, some general, some niche.

I don't buy into that whole Color Me Beautiful stuff. You should wear what you like and not feel constrained because of your skin's undertones or whatnot smh.

Appreciate the well wishes! Hope your communities flourish as well!

  • Yeah, streetwear is fashion rooted in youth subcultures. Another somewhat active fashion community is [email protected]

  • Interesting solution 👍 Curious to see how this plays out!

  • I consistently posted to [email protected] with the goal of getting to 1,000 subscribers in the hopes that a large subscriber base would encourage people to show off their outfits.

But I'm not holding my breath since there just aren't enough people into fashion on Lemmy. Now that I've reached my goal (yay) I'm moving on to other things 🫡

  • Fair points. I'm warming up to the idea of making votes public so that people don't have a false sense of privacy. I wish votes were actually private, but maybe it's not a big deal if your account can't be easily traced back to you in real life.

  • ActivityPub can't evolve? Is there some insurmountable technical blocker?

I suspected this would be an issue and have avoided voting on controversial posts. But if everyone did as I do, there would be no open discussions about pressing topics.

  • It's confusing enough understanding how federation works for the less technically inclined. I don't think we should also expect them to figure out which instance is privacy-conscious. Privacy of votes should be baked into Lemmy. Even kbin users shouldn't be able to see it.

If users want to advertise their approval/disapproval of posts they can use public comments in tandem with private votes.

Incidently, I used the painter's tape today for the first time! Worked just fine :)

  • Protip: leave some cheese near the crust and eat the crust lengthwise. Tada! You got cheesy bread.

  • Don't give them ideas. If they had a reasonable number of ads, it wouldn't be a problem, but they are absolutely out of control.

  • Simple questions with known answers might be a way to weed out malicious/untrustworthy responders.

  • The Gemini logo next to the word "Experiment" makes me suspicious.

Unity 3D development with Pop! OS?

Does anyone have experience developing with Unity 3D game engine on Pop!_OS?

I'm thinking of leaving Windows and Pop seems to be the most painless transition, but I want to get into developing for Unity so that's a must for me (I can't use Godot as the SDK I want to use is on Unity only).

Does it work without issues? The Unity site says it works on Ubuntu 18.04, 20.04, 22.04 so not sure if that translates over to Pop. Any advice would be appreciated :)

Worst case, is developing on Unity via Wine an option? I don't know much about Linux so hopefully that's not a dumb question 😅

    SAK Tape Dispenser

Using the bit driver as a tape dispenser for painter's tape (blue) and gorilla tape (black).

I trimmed a plastic straw down to size and also slit it lengthwise and placed it over the bit driver. Then I wrapped it with two kinds of tape. The straw allows it to freely rotate as I pull the tape off.

Inspired by this video (skip to 22:00) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=L65HqVkWYxo

The gorilla tape is thick so I can't get a lot on there. I may replace it with cellulose tape or just more painter's tape. I might also slide another straw over the tape to protect it.

    DIY Kevlar Bracelet

    • 5 feet of kevlar line that can be unraveled near instantly.
    • Easily and quickly made back into a bracelet after use.
    • Stop bullets with bracelet like Wonder Woman. Just kidding.

Kevlar line is tough enough to be used as a friction saw. It can cut through a tree! It can also carry a stupid amount of weight for such a thin diameter. I used a 1.6 mm diameter line with 400 lbs strength.

I decided to keep this bracelet to 5 ft for jobs that don't require lots of cordage, but you can make it any length.

Here's a past post of some Paracord versions I've made with links on how to make them.

Note: Kevlar can't be melted, so knotting the ends is required to prevent fraying.

    DIY Hayanawa Bracelets

I wear hayanwa "fast rope" bracelets every day, so I made them in different colors to coordinate with my outfits. These bracelets allow 6 yards of 95 Paracord to be quickly and easily deployed with a simple tug.

I was inspired by a video by MeZillch, but with some tweaks I came up with, most notably being a pre-tied handcuff loop for hojojutsu and an aglet to help thread the stopper knot.

ETA: This video shows how to fit 6 yards of cordage in the bracelet.

In one of the coolest and more outrageous repair stories in quite some time, three white-hat hackers helped a regional rail company in southwest Poland unbrick a train that had been artificially rendered inoperable by the train’s manufacturer after an independent maintenance company worked on it. The train’s manufacturer is now threatening to sue the hackers who were hired by the independent repair company to fix it.

After breaking trains simply because an independent repair shop had worked on them, NEWAG is now demanding that trains fixed by hackers be removed from service.
