  • It's not a ridiculous point, but like... our governments need NO excuse to make harsh/strict/nonsense laws. If that's what they wanted, they would have simply done it.

  • This literally IS putting the responsibility on parents.

The law requires that part of "account setup" includes asking the user's age bracket, and then allowing apps installed via "stores" to retrieve that value from the OS. The entire burden of trust in this implementation is placed on the owner of the hardware, exactly where it should be.

  • On its face, this seems actually fine. All it's REALLY mandating is that apps have a way to ask if the user is an adult or not. The burden of trust is placed on whoever sets up the OS, I.E. the parent, which is EXACTLY where it should be. No burden is placed on adults setting up usage for themselves. It's not even much of a privacy concern, given that setup doesn't require specifying age, but a general age bracket.

We'll have to see how this ends up getting implemented.

  • Why, so we can sabotage it, too?

  • Yeah, but this is affiliates we're talking about. There's already plenty of process for proving that affiliatesnare humans, not the least of which is the fact that they STREAM themselves.

  • Fucking why? Being able to link a bank account for ad payments isn't enough to prove adulthood?

  • Not for everyone, but it was my GotY for 2025, no doubt.

There's a very valid criticism that the roguelike randomness can introduce a long delay between when you realize the solution to a puzzle and when you get to execute it, which is usually a mood killer for puzzle games. The game balances that out really well, I think, by just having SO MANY puzzles for you to juggle at once, that you can just make a note of the idea you had, and then refocus onto something else, instead of the frustration of not being able to execute your idea right away.

That DOES drop off in the late game, though, when you've only got a few puzzled left to pursue. The game tries to balance this by adding more and more ways to manipulate RNG in your favor, the longer you play, but I think it still falls on the side of not enough.

On a more fundamental note, just the puzzles themselves are all REALLY well-made. And they all get a big buff to satisfaction by being woven into a really fascinating narrative.

  • "Stolen to order"? The hell does that mean?

  • Secretly?

  • Unfortunately could just be a product of the fact that the older ones are older.

  • I liked The Last Jedi, but even on its own, it has problems. Coming to mind are the hyperspace ramming thing, the physics of the bomber run at the beginning, the nonsense of the mutiny storyline...

  • The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy (7-9). There's lots of cool-looking shit going on, but taken as a whole, it's completely incoherent.

  • Every gamer owes it to themselves to try Outer Wilds.

  • That's actually the correct approach, they just got the wrong humans. It's the executives that are FORCING developers to use AI as a metric that are responsible here, not the developers themselves.

  • How often do the two studies disagree, casuing the drug to be rejected or revised? If it's "never" then this is probably actually a good move.

  • Basically anything by Ado. This one's probably my favorite.

  • Cool story Still illegitimate. (the court, that is)
